Minty Posted 29 April, 2009 Posted 29 April, 2009 Adverts that have received the most complaints: http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/magazine/8020881.stm There are some seriously sad people out there.
hypochondriac Posted 29 April, 2009 Posted 29 April, 2009 A TV ad for Walkers crisps featuring ex-footballer Gary Lineker was deemed offensive for a scene in which a bus drove under a bridge and had its top deck ripped off. Some of those who complained said it could have upset people who had experienced such accidents. After hearing of the complaints, Walkers Snack Foods Ltd decided to withdraw the ad and no action needed to be taken by the ASA. Pathetic!
Barfy Posted 29 April, 2009 Posted 29 April, 2009 The fact that people bothered to complain about the adverts doesn't surprise me. What actually does surprise me is that in all cases (excluding the Walkers one) the ASA either didn't investigate the complaint or rejected them. Could it be that someone with common sense has infiltrated the ASA?
Thorpe-le-Saint Posted 29 April, 2009 Posted 29 April, 2009 Pathetic! Exactly. I wonder how many people have suffered such accidents as these in the past? It must run into the 10's
Smirking_Saint Posted 29 April, 2009 Posted 29 April, 2009 It's the blue rinse brigade, or daily mail readers in general
Minty Posted 29 April, 2009 Author Posted 29 April, 2009 What gets me is that these adverts are viewed by thousands, and often millions of people... is there any other organisation that acts (or can act) on such a small percentage of complainants?!
revolution saint Posted 29 April, 2009 Posted 29 April, 2009 I'd prefer to complain about adverts in general. Especially the extremely irritating ones fronted by fat tongued, ****ney mockney, crusading chefs.
Pancake Posted 29 April, 2009 Posted 29 April, 2009 I'd prefer to complain about adverts in general. Especially the extremely irritating ones fronted by fat tongued, ****ney mockney, crusading chefs. I thought Aldo Zilli was Italian!
Sheaf Saint Posted 29 April, 2009 Posted 29 April, 2009 I'd prefer to complain about adverts in general. Especially the extremely irritating ones fronted by fat tongued, ****ney mockney, crusading chefs. Me too. I read in the Independent today that adverts for dodgy loans (like Ocean Finance) are to be banned. YIPPPEEEEEEE!!!!!
revolution saint Posted 29 April, 2009 Posted 29 April, 2009 I thought Aldo Zilli was Italian! Thankfully I have no idea who he is, apart from the fact he appears on "Breakfast" every so often. Cookery shows in general annoy me anyway. I have reserved a special place in hell for anyone appearing in the Norwich Union/Aviva advertisements at the moment. Specifically for putting that McCulkin kid in it saying "Remember me". Why? Why should I remember a washed up child actor of no note whatsoever? Oh and Ringo Starr whining that he wants people to call him by his real name. That's OK but then why in a prior ad did he presume his success was due to changing his name. You can't have it both ways! If you change your name then obviously people are going to call you it you muppet!
revolution saint Posted 29 April, 2009 Posted 29 April, 2009 Me too. I read in the Independent today that adverts for dodgy loans (like Ocean Finance) are to be banned. YIPPPEEEEEEE!!!!! Don't get me started on them! What about the fat bloke on a sofa saying of his loan, "we even had some left over" after buying a car or home improvements. Well in that case you borrowed too much! It's not free money.
OLYMPIC Posted 29 April, 2009 Posted 29 April, 2009 My pet hate is the ads for the injury lawyers, the one that says we hope you never need us but if you do we are here to help.No your not there to help just make as much money out of your client as possible. Also they say things like we are real lawyers, well thats ok because i was going to use a made up lawyer.

Deppo Posted 10 May, 2009 Posted 10 May, 2009 Right...the 'Volvic Challenge' advert. It's hardly a ****ing challenge to drink a litre and a half of water every day, is it? 'Here I am, having a cheeky Volvic...'. I am going to hunt this man down and kill him, and I'm not joking in the slightest.
