saints_is_the_south Posted 29 April, 2009 Posted 29 April, 2009 (edited) Cheers, been looking for the start of season date for a while. Hopefully we're away to Hartlepool or someone up north otherwise i'll end up missing the first home game or a good away day due to being on hols plus the 1st round of the carling cup. Edited 29 April, 2009 by saints_is_the_south
miserableoldgit Posted 29 April, 2009 Posted 29 April, 2009 I am getting quite excited about the Johnsons Paint Trophy! Another chance to get to Wembley.
ooohTerryHurlock Posted 29 April, 2009 Posted 29 April, 2009 I just realised we're in the FA cup first round. Oh joy. I thought htat yesterday.... and we are going to **** all over the JPT. Were going to Wembly!!!!
Lets B Avenue Posted 29 April, 2009 Posted 29 April, 2009 I just realised we're in the FA cup first round. Oh joy. Cue televised upset by plucky non-leaguers from a place not on the map?
whizzpop Posted 29 April, 2009 Posted 29 April, 2009 I just realised we're in the FA cup first round. Oh joy. Bring on Mangotsfield Utd!!
ladysaint Posted 29 April, 2009 Posted 29 April, 2009 Will International Matches not now mess up our fixtures.
miserableoldgit Posted 29 April, 2009 Posted 29 April, 2009 Cue televised upset by plucky non-leaguers from a place not on the map? Eastleigh! Although I think that they may be on the map.
londonsaint1604 Posted 29 April, 2009 Posted 29 April, 2009 Will International Matches not now mess up our fixtures. They certainly won't!
miserableoldgit Posted 29 April, 2009 Posted 29 April, 2009 I thought htat yesterday.... and we are going to **** all over the JPT. Were going to Wembly!!!! Only if we show the white spirit!
Lets B Avenue Posted 29 April, 2009 Posted 29 April, 2009 Eastleigh! Although I think that they may be on the map. Swaythling is on fewer maps.
Scummer Posted 29 April, 2009 Posted 29 April, 2009 Presumably by being able to play on the international weekends, that means less midweek games? I suppose the midweeks get occupied by the JPT etc.
miserableoldgit Posted 29 April, 2009 Posted 29 April, 2009 Swaythling is on fewer maps. Possibly but I can`t imagine Swaythling v Saints on Daisy Dip just yet!
saint_bert Posted 29 April, 2009 Posted 29 April, 2009 Cheers, been looking for the start of season date for a while. Hopefully we're away to Hartlepool or someone up north otherwise i'll end up missing the first home game or a good away day due to being on hols plus the 1st round of the carling cup. Pathetic excuse IMHO
bungle Posted 29 April, 2009 Posted 29 April, 2009 Will International Matches not now mess up our fixtures. Some clubs move their games to Friday evenings, Sundays or silly kick-off times on the Saturday to avoid clashing with pointless England games I couldn't give a t*ss about.
lee_saint Posted 29 April, 2009 Posted 29 April, 2009 This is the best news and a reason to stay in league 1. I ****ing hate international weeks. Especially when it's the usual pointless and ridiculously tedious friendly. Too right mate, gives me a reason not to go to Wembley but f*cks up my away trips mind. F.A Cup first round, nice trip to Havant then! JPT will be tough though, both Leicester and Leeds thought it was going to be easy and they got knocked out early!
eelpie Posted 29 April, 2009 Posted 29 April, 2009 I'm looking forward to the local derby against Winchester
Whitey Grandad Posted 29 April, 2009 Posted 29 April, 2009 Will International Matches not now mess up our fixtures. Only if all our international players are called up.
Whitey Grandad Posted 29 April, 2009 Posted 29 April, 2009 For info, last season's FA cup dates were: 1st round 8th November 2nd round 29th November
jawillwill Posted 29 April, 2009 Posted 29 April, 2009 Potentially 5 trips to Wemebely in there. Good stuff. Can't wait!
Marsdinho Posted 29 April, 2009 Posted 29 April, 2009 Were all going on a non-league tour. NB: How many times can you spell wembli incorrectly in one thread….???
Lets B Avenue Posted 29 April, 2009 Posted 29 April, 2009 Possibly but I can`t imagine Swaythling v Saints on Daisy Dip just yet! Sorry, Mr Git. I was referring to Eastleigh FC being Swaythling Athletic in disguise. As a self confessed oldie, I'm sure you remember.
miserableoldgit Posted 29 April, 2009 Posted 29 April, 2009 Sorry, Mr Git. I was referring to Eastleigh FC being Swaythling Athletic in disguise. As a self confessed oldie, I'm sure you remember. Why thank you Mr Avenue! Yes I do remember Swaythling Athletic. Perhaps we should go to an Eastliegh game (easy for me-just along the road) and chant "Are you Swaythling in Disguise?" from our bath chairs.
Matthew Le God Posted 29 April, 2009 Posted 29 April, 2009 Potentially 5 trips to Wemebely in there. Good stuff. Can't wait! Only 2 remotely possible League Cup Final - Never gonna happen FA Cup Semi - Never gonna happen FA Cup Final - Never gonna happen League One play off final - Possible JPT Final - Possible
fanimal Posted 29 April, 2009 Posted 29 April, 2009 I say put the reserves out, save legs for the even longer League season, and go for automatic promotion, one season only, especially if we are still minus 10. By the way, a great new name for songs, a yoof crew, etc etc we re the Minus, were the Minus, were the Minus over here!!
krissyboy31 Posted 29 April, 2009 Posted 29 April, 2009 Only 2 remotely possible League Cup Final - Never gonna happen FA Cup Semi - Never gonna happen FA Cup Final - Never gonna happen League One play off final - Possible JPT Final - Possible I would say with -10, the play-off final is improbable.
miserableoldgit Posted 29 April, 2009 Posted 29 April, 2009 I would say with -10, the play-off final is improbable. I think that if you took 10 points from the current top 3 in L1, they would still be in play-off positions.
krissyboy31 Posted 29 April, 2009 Posted 29 April, 2009 I think that if you took 10 points from the current top 3 in L1, they would still be in play-off positions. I think that's different to having to play catch up from the start of the season. The pressure is on from the start, a bit like trying to get out of the bottom 3.
St Lightjaw Posted 29 April, 2009 Posted 29 April, 2009 I just realised we're in the FA cup first round. Oh joy. If we make it to the 3rd round ... and draw for example Peterborough ... and we then beat them ... ... that makes us Giant Killers!
Scummer Posted 29 April, 2009 Posted 29 April, 2009 I think that's different to having to play catch up from the start of the season. The pressure is on from the start, a bit like trying to get out of the bottom 3. Leeds got to the play off final having had a 15 point deduction. And came 7 points above the 7th placed team, so they did it with room to spare.

londonsaint1604 Posted 29 April, 2009 Posted 29 April, 2009 I think that's different to having to play catch up from the start of the season. The pressure is on from the start, a bit like trying to get out of the bottom 3. The sense of injustice and being underdogs/up against it from the start might actually galvanize the team. It depends entirely on who we still have playing for us.
Legod Third Coming Posted 29 April, 2009 Posted 29 April, 2009 Only 2 remotely possible League Cup Final - Never gonna happen FA Cup Semi - Never gonna happen FA Cup Final - Never gonna happen League One play off final - Possible JPT Final - Possible That's the kind of fecking defeatist attitude from Lowe that landed us in this sh!t!!!! For God's sake man - have some BALLS and AMBITION
Legod Third Coming Posted 29 April, 2009 Posted 29 April, 2009 The sense of injustice and being underdogs/up against it from the start might actually galvanize the team. It depends entirely on who we have managing us. Is what I think you meant...
Doctoroncall Posted 29 April, 2009 Posted 29 April, 2009 Leeds got to the play off final having had a 15 point deduction. And came 7 points above the 7th placed team, so they did it with room to spare. Who's not to say we will start on -25 points thanks to the FL insolvency rules/other clubs insisting on additional penalties before allowing the new club to have the golden share?
londonsaint1604 Posted 29 April, 2009 Posted 29 April, 2009 Is what I think you meant... The manager too. I didn't phrase that very well but what I really meant was if we've got a strong squad it shouldn't matter too much but if all we're left with is a few promising kids then we could be in trouble.
lee_saint Posted 29 April, 2009 Posted 29 April, 2009 Who's not to say we will start on -25 points thanks to the FL insolvency rules/other clubs insisting on additional penalties before allowing the new club to have the golden share? Quite a few on the Englandfans forum saying that we'll get knocked back another 15, few saying how anal the Football League rules are on getting out of admin, if it's -25, then just staying in the league is the main target!
Doctoroncall Posted 29 April, 2009 Posted 29 April, 2009 Quite a few on the Englandfans forum saying that we'll get knocked back another 15, few saying how anal the Football League rules are on getting out of admin, if it's -25, then just staying in the league is the main target! If that happens, we'll need a top six side just to stay in the division!!!!
Legod Third Coming Posted 29 April, 2009 Posted 29 April, 2009 The manager too. I didn't phrase that very well but what I really meant was if we've got a strong squad it shouldn't matter too much but if all we're left with is a few promising kids then we could be in trouble. Agreed - a good balance in the squad, but with a really good manager and we have every chance of over-turning -10 - it just means that three games you could have lost have to be won! For me, though, the key is to get the right manager and leave him alone to get on with the job within whatever constraints the financial situation dictates.
lee_saint Posted 29 April, 2009 Posted 29 April, 2009 If that happens, we'll need a top six side just to stay in the division!!!! Indeed mate, be tough ask, makes you think though....football league let us off -10, but then hits us with -15.....it's the sort of thing they would do!
Lets B Avenue Posted 29 April, 2009 Posted 29 April, 2009 Why thank you Mr Avenue! Yes I do remember Swaythling Athletic. Perhaps we should go to an Eastliegh game (easy for me-just along the road) and chant "Are you Swaythling in Disguise?" from our bath chairs. I've been doing it regularly. Including last night at Hayes. Haven't got a bath chair, so I limp to the seats in the stand. See you Saturday. If you need a chair, I have a mate who sells all kinds of disabled equipment. Tell everyone playing in the Forum Match.
SFC Forever Posted 29 April, 2009 Posted 29 April, 2009 Possibly but I can`t imagine Swaythling v Saints on Daisy Dip just yet! Daisy Dip. There rings a bell for some far distant memories. Back in the late 50's and early 60's.
Oz Posted 30 April, 2009 Posted 30 April, 2009 I am getting quite excited about the Johnsons Paint Trophy! Another chance to get to Wembley. no big deal! now the zenith data comp, now that was sumthin else, lol
miserableoldgit Posted 30 April, 2009 Posted 30 April, 2009 no big deal! now the zenith data comp, now that was sumthin else, lol Probably the only time in history that fans booed their own manager at a Wembley Final!!
smithy Posted 30 April, 2009 Posted 30 April, 2009 JPT Final is on my birthday - nice day out at Wembley?
southamptonfclegend Posted 30 April, 2009 Posted 30 April, 2009 I think that's different to having to play catch up from the start of the season. The pressure is on from the start, a bit like trying to get out of the bottom 3. Leeds were deducted -15 and finished in the play offs last season...
This Charming Man Posted 1 May, 2009 Posted 1 May, 2009 Too right mate, gives me a reason not to go to Wembley but f*cks up my away trips mind. F.A Cup first round, nice trip to Havant then! JPT will be tough though, both Leicester and Leeds thought it was going to be easy and they got knocked out early! Reading this thread is the first time I've realised we will clash with international matches - hopefully it will be a sh*t game we have when I'm in the Ukraine. Though I have no problems missing the boring and dull England home games to watch Saints get humped in some northern dump.
saint boggy Posted 1 May, 2009 Posted 1 May, 2009 Only if we show the white spirit! .......very good!!!!
