Alain Perrin Posted 28 April, 2009 Posted 28 April, 2009 Does anyone know how much the bucket collection raised on Saturday?
krissyboy31 Posted 28 April, 2009 Posted 28 April, 2009 £8,877.72 as reported on the OS. http://www.saintsfc.co.uk/articles/article.php?page_id=11721
SaintBobby Posted 28 April, 2009 Posted 28 April, 2009 Madness. Fair play to all who donated, but talk about re-arranging the deckchairs on the Titanic....
krissyboy31 Posted 28 April, 2009 Posted 28 April, 2009 I'm pretty sure I read somewhere that the SOS initiatives have raised over £130,000 so far. I would like to know how much was raised by the ticket donation scheme? I reckon it would have been in the region of £5k?
SaintBobby Posted 28 April, 2009 Posted 28 April, 2009 I confess, I don't know the numbers....and it may yet turn out that fivers in buckets have kept us alive for some crucial 72-hour period. What has been shown is that the sort of cash that you can raise from the fan-base is no more than a stay of execution in the present terms. A particular offence I took on Saturday is that I shelled out for myself, my missus and my parents to go corporate (total cost c. £380+Vat). This is affordable for me, but is a stretch. Then I get Leon Crouch rolling up, asking me to put a twenty quid note in a bucket. Just really, really annoyed me....

I honestly do not know what your problem is - Leon is just trying to do his bit to ensure we've got a club for next season - asking you was nothing personal. If its any consolation, I put £20 into Mark Dennis' bucket as I left the corporate box area Saturday (although admittedly he didn't ask me). Gotta say that guy was doing a great job to help us keep the club afloat. The £20 was money I had received from selling my ST because my wife and I were invited to a box. Personally I was glad to make a small contribution.
70's Mike Posted 29 April, 2009 Posted 29 April, 2009 May have been a lot more if they had not all followed each other round the outside of the pitch and then all swoop on a person putting money in the first bucket.
SFC Forever Posted 29 April, 2009 Posted 29 April, 2009 BLIND LEADING THE BLIND. The idea was sound but there seemed to be no organisation as to how and where they asked and collected.

Then I get Leon Crouch rolling up, asking me to put a twenty quid note in a bucket. Just really, really annoyed me.... I shelled out for corporate in the Terry Paine for myself and my brother. And while I can understand the feeling as they introduced the other tables (Terry Paine being the corporate's corporate place) it became obvious that only one or two of the nine tables had shelled out for tickets out of their own pockets. The rest were all there on company money, costs to the business admittedy and good on those firms for supporting Saints, but not many of the people there had reached into their own pockets to support the cause. On that basis I think it's perfectly reasonable for Leon to be bucket shaking in the corporates.
Alain Perrin Posted 29 April, 2009 Author Posted 29 April, 2009 Poor show in my opinion. I put 1.5% of that in. And saw others shoving notes in. I was expecting 25K minimum. Why didn't the collectors go into the crowd. Pointless.
Rattlehead Posted 29 April, 2009 Posted 29 April, 2009 It was pointless anyway. Sorry to say that, but it was.
cjay7 Posted 30 April, 2009 Posted 30 April, 2009 I have been a saints fans for as long as i can remember, Southampton FC born and raised. On Saturday i was feeling pretty down and out over them whole situation at the club ," deflated" is the word id use if i was Andy Gray...UNTIL i saw i child who must have been about 7 or 8 donate his complete penny collection to one of the bucket collectors. That for me earmarks the spirit of southampton...where did we go wrong? who's to blame? it doesn't matter anymore lets stop pointing fingers..we all know its been a shambles and horrible for every saints fan around but we have to move on.....our club is all that matters. I love it and always will!!
Tac-tics Posted 30 April, 2009 Posted 30 April, 2009 I was sat in the Kingsland, some poor bugger who donated his time, trounched up and down those steps & Im pretty sure no-one went near the bucket with the "very few" odd exception. Pat on the back to the folk who did pop some cash in.
Alain Perrin Posted 30 April, 2009 Author Posted 30 April, 2009 My personal opinion is that I get a great deal of enjoyment from Saints and I didn't want that to end. I'd got a good deal (early bird and all that) on my season ticket so I was just making up the difference. I had qualms because you don't know where it will end up. Sure it might buy BWP some fluffy dice for his baby Bentley, but I'd like to think my contribution went towards Edna the bog cleaner.

Alain Perrin Posted 30 April, 2009 Author Posted 30 April, 2009 It's ok I slipped Edna a tenner onmy way out. Have some respect! She's not a goddamn prostitute....
fletch Posted 30 April, 2009 Posted 30 April, 2009 My mate sell's crack Cocaine down the road from where I live. He said to me the other day and I quote; "I don't give a flyin fook who's buying the club, just pay for your smack or fook off" Remember, you heard it here first.
krissyboy31 Posted 30 April, 2009 Posted 30 April, 2009 Have some respect! She's not a goddamn prostitute.... Not what I heard, she said she'd even clean the Skates' bogs if they paid her enough!
Papa Shango Posted 30 April, 2009 Posted 30 April, 2009 Well done to everyone who donated towards BWP, Thomas, Surman, McGoldrick etc wages. Your well earned money well spent!
