Johnny Shearer Posted 28 April, 2009 Share Posted 28 April, 2009 the lad is twenty years old. twenty! i hope that you didnt have your professional career written off at twenty. i also hope that you didnt have 10,000+ people judging you every week whilst doing your job and having idiots on a website like this one slagging you off what the hell are we doing for this guy's confidence? why dont we encourage him, instead of constantly shooting him down. Sure, he might not be ronaldo or torres, but then hardly anyone is! some players take longer to mature than others. sure, he might turn out to be a ryan ashford or a phil warner or whatever, but he might also turn out to be a chris baird or a james beattie. maybe. if adam does go for peanuts like everyone suggests, and he goes on to make a decent career, most of you still wont learn your ignorant lesson. It has happened plenty of times before: Scott McDonald Brian Howard Kevin Phillips (as a youth player) Luis Boa Morte Dexter Blackstock Garry Monk I am sure there are better examples than these. i am sure some people can name them. but you get my point. was is the point of slagging him off? really?? (this isnt just aimed at you window cleaner, btw) He was on loan to us though wasn't he from Arsenal but Saints didn't take up the offer to buy him at the end of the season. Which I thought was a shame. Also did help that he was my neighbour and down to earth at the time!
NickG Posted 28 April, 2009 Share Posted 28 April, 2009 he really isn't that young by footballing standards.C Ronaldo is 24,Rooney is 23, Theo is 20, Aaron Lennon is 22.Torres is 25, they've all been cutting it at the highest possible level these last 3 years or more. I don't think Lallana really has much future in football at the highest level. Rooney youngest player ever to play for england until beaten by Walcott! Ronaldo - world footballer of the year and acknowledged as the most precocious talent in the world as a teenager Lennon -youngest player ever in premiership and another natural athlete - quoted as fastest in premiership Torres - capt of Athletico aged 19 after signing as 11 year old, playing for Spain at 17 Not typical footballers developing to compare with!!! (this isnt just aimed at you window cleaner, btw) McDonald, Monk, Howard were let go when we were a Prem side and none of them have proved to be Prem standard, with Howard possibly getting into the Prem with SUFC this season, maybe. But basically their subsequent careers have shown we were right to get rid when we did unless you seriously think our retention policy should be based on the assumption we'll be two divisions lower than we are in the future - should we now give contracts to all players at conference standard just in case we find ourselves there one day? Blackstock was sold for a profit, and we did have loads of strikers at the time, so letting one go was broadly sensible. Again, he is now playing at a club a couple of places above us in the league, so hardly a glittering star we let go. Kevin Phillips is just a dopey example you've used for filler. Every club in the land does that. Why didn't you just chuck in Dennis Wise while you're at it. Boa Morte was a signing and then a selling. It happens in football. He's having a good season now, but he's had one hell of a patchy career. hey ho. And you have acknowledged the fact that the vast majority of footballing prospects fail and I bet the list of players we've let go over the last decade who have done absolutely nothing is at least five times if not ten times longer than your list above. And in the case of people like Howard it is the rejection that spurs them on. It doesn't prove that they would have been just as good for us. Look at the career of Kevin Davies for how moves can affect performance at Saints (great), Blackburn (poor), Saints again (patchy) to Bolton (great again). It's a hell of a stretch to assume if he'd just stayed at Blackburn forever he would be playing as he is now for Bolton. And finally, it isn't actually the fans that sign, sell, buy or release any of these players so having a go for people expressing opinions is missing the point a bit. VectisSaint Posted 28 April, 2009 Share Posted 28 April, 2009 I suspect Lallana could be good one day, but he needs some serious coaching by someone experienced working with youngsters. I can see the logic of Fulham or Spuds taking him more for the long term, especially with new rules about home-grown players being discussed. I suspect a loan to Leicester next season would see Lallana develop in the Championship into a useful Prem player in the future

Dalek2003 Posted 28 April, 2009 Share Posted 28 April, 2009 If anyone from Spurs is reading this ... Lallana is a bargain at £5 million and we are only having to sell him because we are hard up.However, if you pay in full (£5 million)by the weekend then i suppose we will be forced to let him go. Cash please !

Why did lowe have to leave? I bet we get 100's more boring old football threads now.... the ruddy faced tosser
Chez Posted 28 April, 2009 Share Posted 28 April, 2009 Lallana is top quality IMO, but certainly not worth £5m...one day maybe if he learns to finish.

Kenwyne Jones James Beattie Kevin Davies Kelvin Davis Ricardo Fuller For me, Kevin Davies is the most obvious one. He was terrible here in his last couple of years and we all wanted rid, but in a different club with a different style of play and management style he has been brilliant for Bolton. CWD Posted 29 April, 2009 Share Posted 29 April, 2009 Lallana was fairly average toward the end of the season, he looked like the kid he is. I reckon he'll be with us next season, and hopefully he'll come alive in league 1.
John B Posted 29 April, 2009 Share Posted 29 April, 2009 http://www.clubcall.com/southampton/prem-duo-eye-swoop-895906.html Tottenham and Fulham are being linked with a £5million summer move for Southampton midfielder Adam Lallana. Saints will be forced to cash in on their star players due to the club's precarious financial position and Lallana, along with fellow midfielder Andrew Surman, is set to be in demand. Spurs and Fulham are set to battle it out for the services of Lallana but 25 per cent of any transfer fee will have to go to the player's former club Bournemouth. Any sale could come too late to save Saints though with reports in the press claiming the club will go out of business in eight days unless they find a buyer. Surely if Lallana was going for £5 Million we would not be in Administration?
buctootim Posted 29 April, 2009 Author Share Posted 29 April, 2009 Surely if Lallana was going for £5 Million we would not be in Administration? I guess Barclays wouldnt hold off on administration on speculation that maybe someone might be prepared to pay up to £5m at some point in the future. Window Cleaner Posted 29 April, 2009 Share Posted 29 April, 2009 (edited) A lot of you seem to have gone pie-eyed over this lad,who by the way is 21 in a couple of weeks. Compare him to say Ashley Young who's about 23 and has 200 odd first team games on his counter at Villa with 40 or so goals to boot. He isn't worth 5 million and we'll be lucky to get 1.5 from some daft idiot of a manager. Then we have to give Bournemouth a chunk, probably them spreading the silly price rumours to get the ball rolling. I believe that might have been the case anyway, not concerning Lallana though. No doubt Watford told us where we could stick our 1 million price tag for Rasiak. I just can't see anyone taking him on at his asking price, unless of course he has a relegation clause in his contract with us but I very much doubt that. frightening for any new buyer really, looking into the books and seeing that we have to give that mid-range CCC "star" 10/12 K a week for another year if we can't offload him to some other bunch of suckers.
