If you care to find the actual interview on the BBC' date=' I think you'll find he said "We all know the stakes".... not skates.[/quote']

Yes your right, ah well, enjoyed the moment of humour whilst it lasted, bloody 606!

Just for posterity, let us record that Setanta announced there were a whole 321 Skates in attendance. If Carlisle stay up and we play them midweek it'll be interesting to see how many we get.

I'll go. That's only leaves another 321 to find.

I think his maths is fine.

I know a few of those 321 were expatriates resident up that way; I wonder how many made the full trip?

How many would Saints have taken to the north-east back in the top-flight days? Just asking, like (but expecting maybe more than 300-odd?)

Maths not a strong subject in Southampton, eh:rolleyes:

Maths looks fine in Southampton, in order to beat 321 you need 322 (or at least 321 and a dog). Maths in Pompey not too good.

I dunno where you get your mileage from, here's Fratton to St James'

http://maps.google.co.uk/maps?f=d&source=s_d&saddr=Fratton+Park,+Portsmouth,+Portsmouth,+United+Kingdom&daddr=St.+James+Park,+Strawberry+Pl,+Newcastle+upon+Tyne,+Tyne+and+Wear,+NE1+4ST+(Newcastle+United+Club+Shop)&geocode=FdkXBwMd-8Pv_w%3BCX6RDnjgg_ynFeDaRgMdrT7n_yEoAUVo769H5g&hl=en&mra=pe&mrcr=0&sll=52.88602,-1.344806&sspn=4.574722,9.755859&ie=UTF8&ll=52.882391,-1.362305&spn=4.57542,9.755859&t=h&z=7 at 346 miles, a 692 mile trip.

St Mary's to Brunton Park is indeed a 662 mile round trip, quite a lot of which is up the abominable M6. You can always fly to Newcastle of course, which is cheaper than getting the train or petrol if you book early, where's Carlisle International Airport ?

And as for "£12 a ticket", it's £10 to watch Eastleigh, but I shouldn't think anything under £30 would put many people off.

Maybe we should be comparing past Saints trips to Newcastle instead...?

I'm sorry but I recall that whilst we took 450 to a midweek game at Hull after relegation (me being one of those) your premiership club failed to take that many combined to Boro and Bolton away. I don't know why but the 196 at Boro (not televised and on a Saturday I think) received much mirth in the newspapers.

We don't have a lot to shout about at the moment, that's for sure, but we don't need advice from you lot about how to support our team away in bad times.

or Reading it would seem:rolleyes:

You've got to get up earlier to catch me with one of those ;).

I remember a couple of midweeks games at Newcastle where we took a few hundred and I'm sure that someone will point out the game that was iced off at the last minute because the poor Geordies couldn't be trusted to walk to the ground without slipping over. Wasn't that on Sky? New Year's Day?

Did anyone else see the game last night? at one point in the 2nd half the camera zoomed in on Shearer's hand and gave a close up of his wedding ring. I'm convinced this was alluding to Mrs Shearer being a Saints fan and the recent speculation. ......... of course my mate who I was watching the game with could've been right when he said "i think they were showing his watch, and the fact time is running out for NUFC" I'll go with my theory.

LOL.

You should write a dissertation on the meta-textuality of british sports television cameramen.

I saw Brian Laws spit on The Championship the other day and I am pretty sure it was filmed as a satirical comment on the current situation in Rwanda.
