SaintRichmond Posted 28 April, 2009 Share Posted 28 April, 2009 Why not? I dont know who else is involved with the bid, but Fulthorpe is involved with one. Souness would be good .... He was the first "decent" Manager Lowe got rid of by not giving him any funds to improve the Team ........ Souness's comments re Lowe's Footbal acumen are well known, so it would be nice if he could administer the Coup de Grace
Saint Billy Posted 28 April, 2009 Share Posted 28 April, 2009 Interesting that KK name keeps coming up. On doing a bit of googling I noticed that a little while ago a South African consortium was interested in purchasing Newcastle and wanted KK as manager and were also offering him a multi million pound stake in the club. They must think alot of him! I know absolutely Jack, but seems a possible although maybe an outside bet.
jonah Posted 28 April, 2009 Share Posted 28 April, 2009 My bets on the 3 bidders would be, in no particular order: * Souness/Malaysian * Wilde * Local cheapskates who won't provide final proof of funds I don't believe Salz or any of the "well known" names have ever had any interest other than as tyre kickers. Verbal Kint Posted 28 April, 2009 Share Posted 28 April, 2009 I don't believe Salz or any of the "well known" names have ever had any interest other than as tyre kickers. Get your facts straight. Salz was ASKED by Crouch to help the club out in an advisory role, particularly in relation to the club's relationship with Barclays. He has never suggested he wanted to be involved in purchasing the club. So wind your neck in and have some respect for the inluential fans we have who are/have helped the club out in it's hour of need

He has never suggested he wanted to be involved in purchasing the club. I don't care what he has or hasn't suggested, my opinion (I think I'm allowed one) is that he and other names have continually been put forward over the last 3 years in respect of putting money into Saints and/or taking it over. So facts are quite straight thanks. So wind your neck in and have some respect for the inluential fans we have who are/have helped the club out in it's hour of need "Wind your neck in and have some respect"? Apples and pears mate, is this the bleedin' Eastenders board? As for Salz being influential, yeah that influence has done us a lot of good hasn't it - or was it his influence that allowed us to breach the £5m overdraft by £1.5m? bridge too far Posted 28 April, 2009 Share Posted 28 April, 2009 Isn't the salient point about Salz the fact is that he's an expert in mergers, takeovers and aquisitions? I've never held the view that he was going to invest - only that he had the nous, experience, respect and influence to facilitate a takeover. I'm sure Morph will put us straight on Salz' actual involvement

What the heck has being influential got to do with our overdraft? Salz certainly is an influential person, but mainly because of his prowess as a legal eagle. As such, he has contacts very highly placed in British industry and commerce. As far as I'm aware, nobody has suggested that Salz would be in the position to invest his own money in the club, but he is the sort of person who would easily command a seat on the board of most blue chip companies and would very probably make a very decent non-executive chairman for us, if whoever takes us over wanted a big hitter at the head of the board. I believe intially AS was as concerned as the rest of us that Saints might fold and quickly made moves to at least provide some sort of back up, consortium wise, if no one else came forward. I think now bigger or wealthier groups have done due diligence and AS can go back to being a fan which is all he wanted in the first place. It is nice to know however that if "push had come to shove" then a well-respected group were prepared to step in and do what they could. I have spoken to AS a few times in the last year (not in the last month I hasten to add) and he is one of the most unassuming men I have ever encountered. Hardly one to blast his name from the rooftops - he would make a perfect non exec Chairman imo.

WHAT he did is not the point i'm making. He didn't come into the club shouting from the rooftops and demanding a seat at the table. He was asked to come and help by LC. I don't think it's fair in the slightest, therefore, to call him a tyre kicker when he never suggested he was going to invest. He was only ever involved in the club because he was asked to be in an advisory role. Why should you apologise? Simply because it would be polite. I have no idea whether Ratcliffe is involved in anyway, personally I doubt it. However he isnt an asset stripper. He normally buys up legacy plant, old technologies from blue chip companies and runs them for cash. Highly leveraged certainly, but not an asset stripper.
