lordswoodsaints Posted 27 April, 2009 Posted 27 April, 2009 I note that there are a few people who are looking to form a 'new' saints team but is this a good idea or not? If the true Southampton fc ceased to exist then maybe it is,I can also see the logic behind the Wimbledon situation, but to support another 'saints' team whilst the other team is still around is nonsense to me. I support not just the current team but the history of the club, the teams I grew up watching as a kid,the memories and experiences I've had and the friendships I've formed over my 40 years of supporting. To support another 'saints' team would be a hard thing for me to do and I suspect it would be for most of the older generation of fans. To me supporting another 'saints' team is virtually on a par with supporting eastleigh or Bournemouth but I won't go as far a saying Pompey :-) Personally I probably wouldn't support any other team,Southampton based or not, I don't think my heart would be in it.

I agree, it just wouldn't be the same.BEsides,as someone said on a thread yesterday, what happens if Lowe then leaves the original Southampton FC? Do we just abandon our new club and return? Doesn't really make sense to me.
corsacar saint Posted 27 April, 2009 Posted 27 April, 2009 Saints or nothing for me. God forbid if it comes to this though.
egreog Posted 27 April, 2009 Posted 27 April, 2009 Eastleigh are an excellent choice as an up and coming local side with a team that try and want to win......... certainly worth going along and watching......better experience than SMS

hypochondriac Posted 27 April, 2009 Posted 27 April, 2009 But AFC Southampton or whatever they will b called will be the new Southampton. I see no reason why they can't be the same as the old SFC and I would enjoy beating everyone in the lower leagues and rocketing up if it came to that.

wightman35 Posted 27 April, 2009 Posted 27 April, 2009 :confused:We can't really compare our situation with AFC Wimbledon. I think their supporters felt their club had been nicked and transported off to M Keynes. We may well believe that our club has been misappropriated in recent times but if it survives it will still be Saints. Should the unspeakable happen (Eight days time was mentioned in the press.) then a new AFC Saints could be our only choice.
rick1976.4.38 Posted 27 April, 2009 Posted 27 April, 2009 as an older saints fan i think if saints cease to exist in 8 days then that will be it for me,an afc southampton im afraid just wouldnt be the same, weve seen and done all that, saints is 1885 till 2009 if it dies, mind you i asked my son what he would do and he said hed support afc southampton,so fair play to him and the younger generation of saints fans if thats what they want to do,i pray we are still saints for another 125 years though.see you all at forest,COYR
