hamster Posted 27 April, 2009 Posted 27 April, 2009 assuming that new owners only buy the football club, what would people like or expect the staium to be called? Although I like 'St Mary's Stadium' and bearing in mind that all four stands have their names well established, I think the 'Ted Bates Stadium' would be nice, after all, his name and image epitomise (sp) all that is great and good about our club and city. His spirit is the 'Spirit of Southampton' that people speak of imho. Thoughts?
Give it to Ron Posted 27 April, 2009 Posted 27 April, 2009 I am hoping for the " Virgin St Marys Stadium" a touch of the Bransons here wouldnt go amiss.
Barry Horne Posted 27 April, 2009 Posted 27 April, 2009 Leave it as it is, it's one of the few bits of our recent history that we can be proud of.
Colinjb Posted 27 April, 2009 Posted 27 April, 2009 Southampton St Mary's Community Stadium. With focus on the word 'community.' It can still be shortened to St Mary's too.
david in sweden Posted 27 April, 2009 Posted 27 April, 2009 I am hoping for the " Virgin St Marys Stadium" a touch of the Bransons here wouldnt go amiss. Mmmm.. Virgin St.Mary would seem approapriate - don't you think ?
Breeny Posted 27 April, 2009 Posted 27 April, 2009 Fresh start.......Docklands Stadium...... sounds a lot more intimidating than St Marys !
Scudamore Posted 27 April, 2009 Posted 27 April, 2009 Southampton St Mary's Community Stadium. With focus on the word 'community.' It can still be shortened to St Mary's too. Makes it sound like a village hall...for local people...
Iowsaintsfan Posted 27 April, 2009 Posted 27 April, 2009 I am hoping for the " Virgin St Marys Stadium" a touch of the Bransons here wouldnt go amiss. Agreed, bring out the bransons!
lordswoodsaints Posted 27 April, 2009 Posted 27 April, 2009 I would like 'welcome to hell' emblazoned in fiery letters.
eurosaint Posted 27 April, 2009 Posted 27 April, 2009 Rupert Lowe Memorial Ground? That has such a nice ring to it !
RobM Posted 27 April, 2009 Posted 27 April, 2009 St.Marys please. It has meaning, is entirely Southampton and shows that we have a rich history as a club and a city.
Topcat Posted 27 April, 2009 Posted 27 April, 2009 I would like the new owners to get a sponsor and pay the Club the value of that sponsorship, We need every penny and dropping "St Marys" for a bigger payment is sensible. In the past we tried to preserve the name and ended up with less cash. And cash is what we ran out of.
Colinjb Posted 27 April, 2009 Posted 27 April, 2009 Makes it sound like a village hall...for local people... Too right, keep those from around 17 miles away clear for good!
krissyboy31 Posted 27 April, 2009 Posted 27 April, 2009 Titanic Stadium, we keep going down. Reminds me of another film title, rhyming with Keepmoat!
Dibden Purlieu Saint Posted 27 April, 2009 Posted 27 April, 2009 Reminds me of another film title, rhyming with Keepmoat! Ah, you've seen Sheepgroat too? What a quality film.
Yate Saint Posted 27 April, 2009 Posted 27 April, 2009 'The away win St Mary's Stadium' or 'The no win no fee St Mary's Stadium'.
eelpie Posted 27 April, 2009 Posted 27 April, 2009 How about renaming the Away Stand the 'Three Points Stand'? and the Stadium 'Never Say Die' Stadium
Badger Posted 27 April, 2009 Posted 27 April, 2009 The Thunder Dome!! After recent years The Blunder Dome might be more appropriate,or The Stadium of Blight. Better than The Rupertdome anyway.
Mole Posted 27 April, 2009 Posted 27 April, 2009 I'd rename it the The McMenemy Stadium in recognition of our most sucessful manager and to really **** Lowe off.
Saint Billy Posted 27 April, 2009 Posted 27 April, 2009 How about the: The Virgin Allen Stewart Briefcase Salz Rhonda Fulthorpe Scott Frost Davis Ratcliffe Dein Dhabi Stadium.
team-saint Posted 27 April, 2009 Posted 27 April, 2009 The Wildely Lowe Attendance Stadium sponsored by takeover fridays
Mole Posted 27 April, 2009 Posted 27 April, 2009 Nothing could be as bad as the name of Colchesters new ground: The Cuckoo Farm Stadium
obelisk Posted 27 April, 2009 Posted 27 April, 2009 Don't really see why it should be changed but I reckon Gasworks Ground might have a nice aroma.
superstevesaints Posted 27 April, 2009 Posted 27 April, 2009 Stadium Southampton South Stadium Hampshire Arena
Saint in Paradise Posted 27 April, 2009 Posted 27 April, 2009 "The stadium of pain" well for home fans anyway:(
Handyman Posted 28 April, 2009 Posted 28 April, 2009 The "Gasworks Ground". Might frighten a few visiting teams!
SW11_Saint Posted 28 April, 2009 Posted 28 April, 2009 I'd rename it the The McMenemy Stadium in recognition of our most sucessful manager and to really **** Lowe off. In which case you'd probably need to call it the "Leon & Lawrie Stadium". Nothing at all wrong with St. Mary's Stadium, and I wouldn't expect that to change (although if RB wants to buy us and call it the Virgin (St.) Mary Stadium - fine with me!).
jeff leopard Posted 28 April, 2009 Posted 28 April, 2009 How about the '250 flats for professional people, will open 2012, call our sales team now on 08900 123 123' Stadium
hughieslastminutegoal Posted 28 April, 2009 Posted 28 April, 2009 I think Arizona might like Phoenix Park (as long as something does arise from the ashes).
Hatch Posted 28 April, 2009 Posted 28 April, 2009 'The New Fratton Park' The NEW home of the South Coasts ONLY top club.
Window Cleaner Posted 28 April, 2009 Posted 28 April, 2009 I think Arizona might like Phoenix Park (as long as something does arise from the ashes). The Cardinals play at the University of Phoenix Stadium, Phoenix Park is a racecourse in Ireland.
eelpie Posted 28 April, 2009 Posted 28 April, 2009 The Northam could be renamed 'Lucy Pinder Stand' Might take their mind off the footie.
cjay7 Posted 28 April, 2009 Posted 28 April, 2009 How about the new owners cut a deal with AVIRA allowing them to name the stadium "The Avira Stadium" for a shortened mortgage!!
Window Cleaner Posted 28 April, 2009 Posted 28 April, 2009 How about the new owners cut a deal with AVIRA allowing them to name the stadium "The Avira Stadium" for a shortened mortgage!! Aviva. Avira is an anti viral software.
