eelpie Posted 27 April, 2009 Posted 27 April, 2009 so if we are in danger of folding, which we truly are, and the only saviour to come forward was Lowe, would he be "accepted" back or would people prefer the club to disappear? Lowe could never save SFC. He would take us remorselessly deeper into trouble. I would lose interest in any club he was involved in, and would prefer to support a splinter non-league Saints. In the long run, this team would improve and pass Lowe's club going in the opposite way - down, down, downwards. He could never attract a paying public into St Mary's. The man is a pariah.
Micky Posted 27 April, 2009 Posted 27 April, 2009 I'm making a qualified judgement (from a biz/ PR´/ ownership perspective) and what's best for the club and in everyone's interest. So ...I think that we'll have an announcement before the weekend. I said in the first thread that I didn't have any inside / secret info. If I'm wrong, I'll come back and apologise to anyone who thinks I'm unrealistic. Tis not the thread Sir, 'tis the title. As Stan has pointed out - you are 'guessing', 'thinking out loud' perhaps - but your title (especially as you are shouting half of it) is misleading in that it suggest you are ITK - when in fact err you are (regretfully for your readers) not!
david in sweden Posted 27 April, 2009 Author Posted 27 April, 2009 You mean you're guessing. I would like a takeover to happen this week too, and it would be nice to have it all sorted before the last game of the season. I don't really get why this is best for the club, other than as soon as possible is best for the club. To be fair Stan, you not the only one to say I'm " guessing." ..but I prefer to think of it as a qualified judgment - just like buying the right shares at the right time.. Making a business decision about the future. Call it a prediction if you like, but I still can't think how I'd re-word the title. I've been a fan for 50 years ...and worked in business for over 40. My life has been about making decisions at the right time. It's a sort of game I play ..against myself. If I'm right, then I'm pleased for everyone that it's settled. The players (and Manager) are like employees waiting for redundancy notices so the sooner it's sorted before the media spotlight goes ...the better it'll feel during the summer break. To me, it's the next logical step. If wrong, I'll apologise to people who think I've mislead them. AND I won't come back with a " I told you so " thread - if right.
happiness stan Posted 27 April, 2009 Posted 27 April, 2009 I won't come back with a " I told you so " thread - if right. I think that was what I was worried about! Here's hoping you've guessed right.
wightman35 Posted 27 April, 2009 Posted 27 April, 2009 This could be the ultimate "This Friday" story; the climax of a two year saga! The difference is that this time if there is no deal done, I'm afraid we will be busted. Fingers crossed and it will be:D, rather than  Please may it not involve RL, GA, ETC.
miserableoldgit Posted 27 April, 2009 Posted 27 April, 2009 Just mentioned on South Today that Mark Fry hopes to take a rescue package to the FL by the end of this week.
thorpie the sinner Posted 27 April, 2009 Posted 27 April, 2009 Surely not on a friday!!! can anyone confirm if we really have 8 days!!! has Mr Fry said so?
Toadhall Saint Posted 27 April, 2009 Posted 27 April, 2009 (edited) BBC South just reported that Fry was hoping to go to the FL with a rescue plan. Sorry MOG - Edited 27 April, 2009 by Toadhall Saint realised that M old G had got in earlier
eurosaint Posted 27 April, 2009 Posted 27 April, 2009 Surely not on a friday!!! can anyone confirm if we really have 8 days!!! has Mr Fry said so? As the season finishes on Sunday and we have no further income till August (ST sales would be dependent on having a club in the 1st place!) then 8 days seems logical, no ?
hypochondriac Posted 27 April, 2009 Posted 27 April, 2009 BBC South just reported that Fry was hoping to go to the FL with a rescue plan. Sorry MOG - What do you mean rescue plan?
SaintRichmond Posted 27 April, 2009 Posted 27 April, 2009 BBC South just reported that Fry was hoping to go to the FL with a rescue plan. Sorry MOG - Here we go .... SOUNDS LIKE A CHEAP OPTION ALREADY .........
miserableoldgit Posted 27 April, 2009 Posted 27 April, 2009 What do you mean rescue plan? These were the words used on the programme.
thorpie the sinner Posted 27 April, 2009 Posted 27 April, 2009 As the season finishes on Sunday and we have no further income till August (ST sales would be dependent on having a club in the 1st place!) then 8 days seems logical, no ? Agree! I just wonder after 8 days then if we will be counting down!! I mean, will it be midday on Tues 5th may???
krissyboy31 Posted 27 April, 2009 Posted 27 April, 2009 These were the words used on the programme. But he also said "So the season could end on a high after all!"
miserableoldgit Posted 27 April, 2009 Posted 27 April, 2009 Here we go .... SOUNDS LIKE A CHEAP OPTION ALREADY ......... Blimey! I would hate to be the same room as you and Alpine. I`d end up slitting my wrists. And I`m supposed to be a miserableoldgit!
hypochondriac Posted 27 April, 2009 Posted 27 April, 2009 But he also said "So the season could end on a high after all!" I'm pretty confused. Rescue plan sounds like the despairing words of a consortium who don't have enough money. Is it a rescue plan until the people with the real money take over? I'm interested to know what this rescue plan entails.
SaintRichmond Posted 27 April, 2009 Posted 27 April, 2009 But he also said "So the season could end on a high after all!" Lowe coming back for a third time would NOT be ending the season on a high Nor would a "Cheapo" mop up operation which leaves us with nothing left to REBUILD Sorry, but for me, unless it's a Big Name, Big Money Takeover, then it will mean we will forever be in the Third Tier of UK Fooball forever, or worse

Is it a rescue plan until the people with the real money take over? I'm interested to know what this rescue plan entails. It could be a plan to keep the FC in business, to enable the new buyers enough time to dot the i's and cross the t's?
miserableoldgit Posted 27 April, 2009 Posted 27 April, 2009 Well being a "glass half full" sort of person, I am assuming that as the club is liable to go out of existence within the next few days, a new buyer would be rescueing us. Wouldn`t he? Probably just a turn of phrase...probably.....I expect.....isn`t it?
Gemmel Posted 27 April, 2009 Posted 27 April, 2009 Sorry, but for me, unless it's a Big Name, Big Money Takeover, then it will mean we will forever be in the Third Tier of UK Fooball forever, or worse I disagree. The PA saga all wet our lips, as to getting a multi billionare owner and that we could do a Chelsea. But it isn't going to happen and even before administration, i had come round to just wanting a group of decent businessmen, to pool their resources, cut our cloth accordingly and run the club.

"New Owners of Saints Plan Major New Investment to Get Saints Back to the Premiership " ..... " Rescue Plan" seems just like an Elastoplast Bandage IMHO

"New Owners of Saints Plan Major New Investment to Get Saints Back to the Premiership " ..... " Rescue Plan" seems just like an Elastoplast Bandage IMHO TBF it was almost a throwaway line at the end of the report about Saturday so it may not have a direct quote from Fry. It may have been journalist-speak. Bottom line is that we won`t really know until it all unfolds. Edited 27 April, 2009 by miserableoldgit Pedantry
miserableoldgit Posted 27 April, 2009 Posted 27 April, 2009 It will be announced next week  Bloody Hell! You`re sticking you neck out!
Mr Saints Posted 27 April, 2009 Posted 27 April, 2009 Does anyone actually know how close we are to 'something' positive happening? (Fitzhugh/Morph?)
mulletsaint Posted 27 April, 2009 Posted 27 April, 2009 To be honest, at this moment in time I'm quite happy to have just a rescue plan, if it means I still have my club to support.
Saint Charlie Posted 27 April, 2009 Posted 27 April, 2009 Tony Husband said on Solent on Sat that Fry had told him we would probably find out the indentity of (at least one) bidder at some point this week. South Today basically said the same tonight, things are moving forward and this week will be key.
Golac's Cunning Stunts Posted 27 April, 2009 Posted 27 April, 2009 Some sobering thoughts from a Leeds Fan copy and pasted from 606. I think a lot of the post rings true: Dear Saints Fans As a Leeds supporter who went through something similar two summers ago, all I can do besides sympathise is let you in on what to expect going forward. Firstly, the "buyers" who are circling to take over your club. Well, they will have to come up with what you owe HMRC in taxes in order to avoid an extra 15 points deduction. Truth is, as it stands, you will start next season minus 25 points if you are taken over, because there is no rational way to come out of administration except to pay off the debts, meaning the new owners need to stump up £24-million just for that, and then have a few more million available to run the club successfully. Being in Lge 1 means you are not that attractive a business proposition anymore, and with anything from a minus 10 to minus 25 penalty hanging over you, buyers are going to be very cautious and reluctant. Secondly, forget about "doing a Leicester". When the Foxes came down, they weren't bust, had no points penalty and kept their squad. The Chairman also allowed them to add to it, so they were able to stroll this division. Saints, on the other hand, are in admin, and so your players are the easiest assets to sell. The wage bill will also be dramatically reduced, so expect to be signing some very average free transfers and loanees. That is the way when you drop to this level, have no cash and sit with a points deduction. It will be difficult to attract good players to St Mary's. Thirdly, the clubs in Lge 1 will want to beat you so badly it hurts. Every team, whether they are top or bottom, will play out of their skins when you face them. Saints will be a big scalp for them, and they will absolutely play until they drop to beat you. Expect to be playing in 46 cup finals next season. Lastly, you are now at the mercy of predator buyers, and if you thought Lowe was bad, wait until you see who steps forward to make a bid now. When Bates bought Leeds back, the other so-called interested parties never ever put money on the table, instead electing to wage their buying campaigns through the media, and we were left frustrated as lots of verbals were exchanged, but never the big bucks that were promised. So Saints fans, hang on tight, because its going to get harder before it gets easier. By next season you should have new owners, and you better pray they are in it for the club. You will definitely have a new team, and while you're on your knees ask the big guy if he can at least ensure you have a few decent players. Good luck for next season, and I can honestly say I hope we don't have to play you. Most importantly, you have to now stick together and stand by your club. You are all they've got. Marching On Together

Saint Billy Posted 27 April, 2009 Posted 27 April, 2009 Good post, a lot of sense spoken. Very good post but very sobering. What a mess.
shurlock Posted 27 April, 2009 Posted 27 April, 2009 ********- every team wants to beat leeds because they are arrogant c**ts; for scalps like us, teams will park the proverbial team on the six yard box and look to nick a 1-0 on the break.
miserableoldgit Posted 28 April, 2009 Posted 28 April, 2009 Yikes - that Leeds bit is scary as hell....!!! League One didn`t scare Leicester this season, and they would be considered a big scalp I suspect.
SaintRichmond Posted 28 April, 2009 Posted 28 April, 2009 Does anyone actually know how close we are to 'something' positive happening? (Fitzhugh/Morph?) ...... not really sure .........
Sussex Saint Posted 28 April, 2009 Posted 28 April, 2009 Yikes - that Leeds bit is scary as hell....!!! Leeds had debts of £82 million so they had an even bigger hill to climb than we do. Even so we're in for a rough ride in league 1 assuming a buyer comes forward in time..
Master Bates Posted 28 April, 2009 Posted 28 April, 2009 When Bates bought Leeds back' date=' the other so-called interested parties never ever put money on the table, instead electing to wage their buying campaigns through the media, and we were left frustrated as lots of verbals were exchanged, but never the big bucks that were promised.[/quote'] Yeah, i'm sorry about that.
OldNick Posted 28 April, 2009 Posted 28 April, 2009 The scary thing is is it DOESN'T happen this friday then we will not have any other fridays to ever wonder if it will be friday

krissyboy31 Posted 28 April, 2009 Posted 28 April, 2009 That is the biggest filler of non-new information I have ever read. Lol! That should be the Echo's advertising slogan.
Webby Posted 28 April, 2009 Posted 28 April, 2009 It's agonizing not knowing what's happening. Does Fry need to interview EVERY interested party? How does he filter out the timewasters? This would all take some time, but I hope, from what's been revealed so far, that a deal will unfold this week/weekend. If so, with new owners and potential new management staff (what will happen to Killer?) we'll be ready for the new season with some fresh optimism.
DT Posted 28 April, 2009 Posted 28 April, 2009 Lol! That should be the Echo's advertising slogan. Echo is right - it is just the same story that has run for the past God-knows how long. Another echo every day...
