miserableoldgit Posted 27 April, 2009 Posted 27 April, 2009 Eelpie - the first chants of "on the pitch" only came when the police and their dogs emerged and formed a line in front of the Northam end. Also the pitch invasion did not start until a good 30 seconds after the ref had blown his whistle, mainly because most of the would be pitch invaders did not realise the game had ended. Most assumed it was for the foul on Wotton. This is correct although I would say that it was more than 30 seconds between the ref blowing the final whistle and anybody realising that the game had actually finished. It was only when it was clear that the game had finished that the crowd in the Kingsland North (fairly close to where I sit) ran onto the pitch. In no way am I justifying what happened but I do agree with other posters that given the emotion of the afternoon, the police moving in to the front of the Northam end (Saints only) with (unmuzzled?) dogs was probably both insensitive and antagonistic and contributed to make the situation worse than it should have been.
