I went to Abu Dhabi with them last month and thought they were excellent! I'm glad I didn't know about this though...

The usual clueless journalism when it comes to aviation.

- Taking off at reduced power is standard practice for all airlines. Yes it saves a marginal amount of fuel, but the primary reason is to reduce wear on the engines and reduce noise.

 

"THE pilot of the Emirates flight that nearly crashed at Melbourne Airport with 225 passengers on board had almost no sleep the previous day"

- All airline crew, both pilots and cabin crew are entitled to a minimum rest period. I am not sure what Emirates policy is, but it would have to have been at least 12 hours between getting off duty and clocking on the next day.

 

"NONE of the announcements told passengers how serious the situation was and the passengers were not in the "brace position" when the plane landed"

- There is no reason what-so-ever to adopt the brace possition for landing after a tail strike.
