Third Division South Days Posted 26 April, 2009 Posted 26 April, 2009 I think that was just sloppy journalism to be honest. Ive read it again and cant see how you you come to that conclusion. The Times is not perfect but the article is written by a respected business journalist not a sports hack for the Star.
brmbrm Posted 26 April, 2009 Posted 26 April, 2009 Honestly - I don't think the man will EVER be happy until he finally gets his dream of naming the club "Rupert's Rovers FC". He's obsessed - and should be sanctioned! You mean sectioned, not sanctioned.
.comsaint Posted 26 April, 2009 Posted 26 April, 2009 You mean sectioned, not sanctioned. Indeed I do. Heavy night - for obvious reasons...all SFC-related of course.
Billyboy Posted 26 April, 2009 Posted 26 April, 2009 Stirchley, thats much too clever and subtle for most posters on here!!!!!!!!
beatlesaint Posted 26 April, 2009 Posted 26 April, 2009 Ive read it again and cant see how you you come to that conclusion. The Times is not perfect but the article is written by a respected business journalist not a sports hack for the Star. Well two reasons really. Firstly you have part answered it yourself - a respected business journalist who probably has no interest/knowledge of football has made a mistake on a subject he is not an expert or even has an interest in.....and secondly any appeal will be put into the hands of the lawyers, Mr Fry has said that. Do you honestly think the administrators are going to ask Lowe to come back and fight this case ? Umm, why would they do that ? have you seen it anywhere else ? Have we actually confirmed the appeal yet ? Nope !
miserableoldgit Posted 26 April, 2009 Posted 26 April, 2009 so does anybody know much about this lowe fella? Not really. I`ll Google him and let you know what I find out. Detective Trousers? Pah!
Whitey Grandad Posted 26 April, 2009 Posted 26 April, 2009 You mean sectioned, not sanctioned. I think he should at least have his privileges cut off.
Window Cleaner Posted 26 April, 2009 Posted 26 April, 2009 (edited) Have we fallen into Dante's seventh circle of hell? Is that not for violent sins? we are guilty of indulgence, thus circles 1-5 for us. Not a new tack really, I think Atletico Madrid's fans had 'a year in purgatory' T-shirts made up when they got relegated. Edited 26 April, 2009 by Window Cleaner
imported_slough_saint Posted 26 April, 2009 Posted 26 April, 2009 I agree with Manji that the Daily Mail article claiming RL could be coming back could be planted so as to make any alternative offer look far more attractive than it is. But the sad fact is that the club is a busted flush, starting league 1 with -10 points and no matter how much fans may not like it, our destiny is largely out of our control. The administrator's sole purpose is to get the best possible deal for the creditors. Hopefully this will also mean the best deal for the football club but it doesn't have to. If RL is part of a successful consortium that rescues my football club from oblivion then i will still continue to support and follow it. We can talk about who's to blame for the current predicament until the cows come home, but my view is that RL would never have gambled like the previous regime by racking up a huge overdraft that ultimately forced us into playing the youngsters and loaning out the better paid players that we had to this year. Hindsight is a wonderful thing but I wish RL had refused M Wilde's request to come back and attempt to sort out the mess the prevoius management team had left. Perhaps Crouch, McMenemy, Wilde and other would be getting a bit more flack for their own actions over the previous 2 years.
Dalek2003 Posted 26 April, 2009 Posted 26 April, 2009 Not only is Lowe likely to return but we could also see Hoddle as the new manager of SFC !
miserableoldgit Posted 26 April, 2009 Posted 26 April, 2009 Not only is Lowe likely to return but we could also see Hoddle as the new manager of SFC ! Yawn!:smt015
Stirchleysaint Posted 26 April, 2009 Posted 26 April, 2009 Is that not for violent sins? we are guilty of indulgence, thus circles 1-5 for us. If that's true then its a disproportionate punishment don't you think? Not a new tack really, I think Atletico Madrid's fans had 'a year in purgatory' T-shirts made up when they got relegated. What? After our "on loan from the premiership" T-shirts? Tempting fate there I would suggest. I suggest that we approach the league with more respect. Not many glory hunters in the lower leagues.
rick1976.4.38 Posted 26 April, 2009 Posted 26 April, 2009 rl should never be allowed to set foot in sms ever again,in fact never in southampton,COYR
Dalek2003 Posted 26 April, 2009 Posted 26 April, 2009 Yawn!:smt015 If you are sitting in your deckchair I suggest you close your mouth before a wasp flies in !
Whitey Grandad Posted 26 April, 2009 Posted 26 April, 2009 What? After our "on loan from the premiership" T-shirts? Tempting fate there I would suggest. I suggest that we approach the league with more respect. Not many glory hunters in the lower leagues. I still have one of those stickers in my car that says 'A Saints fan is for life, not just the Premiership'. Should I change the wording now?
Saint Charlie Posted 26 April, 2009 Posted 26 April, 2009 I still have one of those stickers in my car that says 'A Saints fan is for life, not just the Premiership'. Should I change the wording now? No, it is more apt now than ever.
bridge too far Posted 26 April, 2009 Posted 26 April, 2009 If you are sitting in your deckchair I suggest you close your mouth before a wasp flies in ! You're the one with a bee in your bonnet
miserableoldgit Posted 26 April, 2009 Posted 26 April, 2009 If you are sitting in your deckchair I suggest you close your mouth before a wasp flies in ! Whats this? A "witty" riposte? Well it does make a change from the continuous driibbling on about... well you know who.
Toomer Posted 26 April, 2009 Posted 26 April, 2009 so does anybody know much about this lowe fella? I have heard he has a very high opinion of himself and feels he can do no wrong.
Third Division South Days Posted 26 April, 2009 Posted 26 April, 2009 Well two reasons really. Nope ! Obviously we'll know in the next few days one way or another. The whole article is primarily about WH Ireland and SFC is covered by one paragraph. Has the journalist been accurately briefed or just made it up? The sentence used seems quite clear to me. "He is leading a legal appeal after the administration cost the beleagured club a ten-point penalty."
dubai_phil Posted 26 April, 2009 Posted 26 April, 2009 OK thinking this through and reading some of the points made. Seems there is a link between LM & the Journalist. We seem to be getting signals from Morph that he is aware of someone bidding. We seem to here tales of a second mysterious but plausible bidder. It isn't a big leap of faith to take a huge guess that Salz and by nature his buddies from before are likely to be one of the bidders. It also isn't a big leap of faith to guess that they have no idea who else is doing due dilligence. It also isn't a big leap of faith to guess that someone aligned to that bid has made 2 + 2 equal 7, resulting in a rather amateur attempt to scare Fry into accepting a bid quicker than he would perhaps want, by stirring up the fans. The logic works quite well, especially when we consider that people associated with that group haven't been the brightest buttons when dealing with the media. I wonder if someone gave Lawrie a "smoke grenade" to lob in the direction of what they thought was going on. Will be damned funny if it blows up in their faces and their 2 + 2 = 7 was a totally wrong long shot
sidthesquid Posted 26 April, 2009 Posted 26 April, 2009 Have we fallen into Dante's seventh circle of hell? Barely through the third, I'm afraid
Window Cleaner Posted 26 April, 2009 Posted 26 April, 2009 Barely through the third, I'm afraid 4th circle is the one for us "Those whose attitude toward material goods deviated from the desired mean are punished in this circle. They include the avaricious or miserly, who hoarded possessions, and the prodigal, who squandered them. Guarded by Plutus, the miserly group pushes great rocks towards the center of the circle; the wasters must take the rocks back to their own side of the circle (Canto VII). This is an antithetical punishment; the sinners must do the opposite of the actions they carried out in life"
alpine_saint Posted 26 April, 2009 Posted 26 April, 2009 I find it all very amusing. Calm down everyone, it is a non story, it will not be happening. Whilst I do not know the identity of the two who have proved funds I do know it is not Lowe. R, I have the utmost respect for your opinion 99.9% of the time, and if you say he aint involved, I take it seriously and am most releived. I suggest everyone else calm down a bit. As people on here have said, freindship only goes so far where money is concerned. No-one would be stupid enough to let Lowe in on their consortium know exactly that he will wreck the business by losing the customers, and therefore they will lose their money too.

Yesterday, I bet someone £50 it wouldn't happen - and that person is fairly well connected. I still don't think it will happen - this is all regurgitation. I also know someone who has recently had a long chat with Rupert and no mention was made of this whatsoever.
Cabrone Posted 26 April, 2009 Posted 26 April, 2009 If Lowe life returns then it's back to my SMS boycott. I just can't see it TBH, surely no-one is bone-headed enough to buy the club and then re-employ one of the most despised figures in its history. Hypothetically though, if this was to happen I wouldn't be surprised if attendances plunged down to the 5,000 mark.

Red&White Posted 26 April, 2009 Posted 26 April, 2009 Got to be a wind up surely ? If that nob comes back who would go to St Mary`s ? God help us !
crouchi Posted 26 April, 2009 Posted 26 April, 2009 I guess in Div1 we will be down to the real, 'real' fans, irrespective of club ownership. Sad to say they'll not be able to lower the prices enough to attract much of a crowd, even if by some miracle we are saved from disappearing completely.
SW11_Saint Posted 26 April, 2009 Posted 26 April, 2009 I can honestly say that if this is true, then that will be it for me with regards to supporting Saints any longer. Me too. I have been a fan for over 40 years but if this cn_t takes power again that will be it for me I am afraid. Honestly, why does he bother? - he's a complete failure, he's a terrible leader, he has 0% confidence from his customers, and he has taken us down twice and into administration. FFS!!! I really worry that his personality flaw means that he will keep on trying to "teach us (all) a lesson" and we will end up in the Blue Square League... Message to Rupert - YOU ARE NOT WANTED AT THIS CLUB, OR IN SOUTHAMPTON. D_UCK OFF, AND DO NOT DARKEN OUR DOOR AGAIN. AND TAKE ALL YOUR SNIVELLING LITTLE SIDEKICKS WITH YOU!

I'm sorry, if either Lowe or Askham surfaced inside a consortium that buys the club, I will simply lose interest. I cannot go through all that again until we are in the Conference.
Thorpe-le-Saint Posted 26 April, 2009 Posted 26 April, 2009 He would get ****ing lynched. What is this guys problem? Honestly, can't he take a hint?!? **** OFF LOWE.
Right sider Posted 26 April, 2009 Posted 26 April, 2009 Lowe would claim he is doing it for the good of the club without realising he bangs the nails in the coffin with every word he says.

However, if this is true. that really will be it for me. i wont be coming back
Red and White Army Posted 27 April, 2009 Posted 27 April, 2009 I could accept Richards back, i could even accept Cowen and Askham (he'll soon be dead/in a nursing home anyway) back, but if he ever brought Lowe back that'd be it for me. I would welcome Lowe back with open arms if he is the best option for the club and it gets rid of you and alpine.
Daren W Posted 27 April, 2009 Posted 27 April, 2009 I would welcome Lowe back with open arms if he is the best option for the club and it gets rid of you and alpine. Unbelievable. We have had numerous people on here slating Stanley and Alpine, stating they're devisive and "anti club" and have on occasion wished something negative to happen to the club if it got rid of Lowe and then we have this, the reverse, someone wishing something harmful on the club if it rids the club of people they don't like.... Amazing, isn't it, how many of the perceived pro Lowe posters live in glass houses....
washsaint Posted 27 April, 2009 Posted 27 April, 2009 Big difference Daren......if Lowe coming back was the ONLY chance of stopping our club folding are you really saying you would rather he did not come back and the club folded? I don't think for 1 minute that Lowe will return but those that were excited about going into administration should be hanging their head in shame.
alpine_saint Posted 27 April, 2009 Posted 27 April, 2009 I don't think for 1 minute that Lowe will return but those that were excited about going into administration should be hanging their head in shame. Dream on...
um pahars Posted 27 April, 2009 Posted 27 April, 2009 if Lowe coming back was the ONLY chance of stopping our club folding . But with all due respect that was the line trotted out last summer, in that "he was our only hope". Some hope that turned out to be. We would have been better off with Bob.
Son of Bob Posted 27 April, 2009 Posted 27 April, 2009 I'm not sure Lowe would be stupid enough to come back. Not even he could be that uber-arrogant... surely? I feel certain there is no substance to these rumours. I never thought I'd ever say this as it's not an option I've ever considered but if Lowe does come back to St Marys, I won't be going there again.
Master Bates Posted 27 April, 2009 Posted 27 April, 2009 Today’s Echo says no truth in Tom Scott & Rupert Lowe rumours.
