From today i'd like Davis, Perry, Size, James and Gillet, However, expect probably only two of those to still be here......

Need a big lump center forward and a midfield engine with a bit of lower league nouse..its gonna be tough but after what I saw today I have some hope, and hope to be there next season.....

An enjoyable game, some passion, some good things and a few normal bad things.

Off to a flyer and looked the better team, should have probably extended our lead, but also have Davis to thank for two very good saves (one looked outstanding). Probably deserved to win, but not being able to close a game out has cost us again.

Player ratings

Davis - 8 - Some outstanding saves and generally a pretty good all round performance

James - 7 - Played really well and looked good going forwards, but then prone to some very poor errors (one should have cost us a goal)

Perry - 8 - A very inspriing performance and read the game superbly.

Saeijs - 6 - Got stuck in, but gave away another needless penalty and sometimes guilty of jumping in

Surman - 7 - A decent perfromance (best for a while). Pushed on quite a bit which helped us.

Lallana - 6 - A bit of an enigma, in that he looks as though he has it, but just struggles to get a hold of the game

Wotton - 6- Tries his best, gives his all but always half a second too late.

Gillett - 8 - For someone I don't rate he really won me over today. Got involved, added some bite and knocked the ball around well.

DMG - 5 - I know he scored, but he also missed a penalty, gave away possession, didn't react fast enough and just not doing it for me.

BWP - 6 - He just isn't up to it. He's a George Lawrence type player who confuses himself as much as he confuses the opposition.

Euell - 8.5 - Ran tirelessly, got stuck in, out himself aboutm never gave up and showed his experience and guile throughout.

Subs: Saga - 6 - Didn't really do anything

Smith - 5 - Saw alot of the ball, did the hard stuff but couldn't do the simple stuff.

Schneiderlin - 6 - Only on for a couple of mins

Pretty much agree with that mate, but would give BWP an 8. He was excellent in the first half. Got tired in the second half like normal though.

A pile of ****e !!!

Clear out , start again and find some who are proud to wear the shirt with an ounce of ability and fight to get out of Div 1. Time to go and get very very very very ****ed.

Southampton til I die

Slightly disagree to have a chance of promotion we need to have a stable team, if we have 11 different it will take until october for the team to gel in competitive match situations.

we need, imo, a goalscoring heading lump up front , a left back and a brick sh*t house to anchor midfield

Did I see right, and did Size and Perry have a bit of a disagreement after a scare that saw the ball off for a goal kick in the end? Either they were doing some manly back-slapping, or Size was taking his temper out on the little guy. Anyway, don't think it was exactly James's mistake that nearly cost us a goal - ok, so he missed the ball and ended up on his ar*e but he was to the left of the goalmouth. Where the ? was Surman???

The ref was annoying, but in the end he could have sent SO many players off for the handbags on pitch - at least he had the sense not to do that.

Gillett - what a hero. I didn't know he was even playing in the reserves yet. Was he?

And why, oh why, oh why, wasn't Lee Holmes played??? If he had been on the pitch, I doubt Surman would have spent so much time out of position. Oh, well, maybe not.

The nipper said to me after Forest at home, "We will still go when we're in League One, won't we, mum?" He's already over it, and praying that KD stays.

After 16 years living amongst the world of Islam, one thing that happens is that you just forget all about gambling.

It is often a shock to come back home and see how entrenched gambling is in UK society.

But at the end of the day what shocks me the most now is how by any means of business management logic could one person have thought that gambling with the future of our football club by appointing and unknown untried manager to take a bunch of unknown untried kids and turn them into a competitive football team.

We all tried to see positives, we tried to hope that the green shoots were there when we won at Derby, but at the end of the day, one man put everything we did not actually have on Lucky Number Slevin convinced it was a sure fire success.

And since then this has just been inevitable.

Tonight I am actually incredibly happy and relieved. The nightmare is finally over. The insanity is finally gone and all that remains are the last rites next weekend in Nottingham.

I hope that unlike in that great movie, we, and the club, the victims of that gambler do have a future. If we don't then in some ways a life without the pain of this last year has to be better than more of what we had.

Thank God that this season is now gone, I hope somebody gives us the chance to play and watch once again, but having just watched the way that those hated mancs tore apart the Spuds in the second half, I just wonder if I'll ever really see a Saints team play real football ever again.

But a cloud is lifted now, all that remains is to watch the last of the idiot Dutch processes, people and systems torn out of the club

I cant see why DMG is the fall guy again. His sharpness got us the lead and was trying and backtracking all the game. Then BWP AL and gillette who missed one on ones are let off. It amazes me but that is football

do not always agree with you Nick, but do on this issue imo since Wotte's been in charged DMG has upped his work rate and looked a decent player.

BWP again imo will never be a good striker because he lacks composure in fromt of goal, the likes of steve moran would be on double figures for goals with the number of one on ones BWP has missed

What I really hope we do is sign a Right-Back

I like that Ifil we had on loan a few years back from spurs who now plays for Colchester, and then we can stick James in midfield where he really should be playing, it's his natural position. he is a lot better than wotton, who i though was excellent today btw.

Davis 8 - Thought he was iommense today, if only his kicking was half decent.

James 6 - Not a right back, made a big mistake but apart from that, plaed well

Perry 7 - Solid.

Saeijs 6 - Very clumsy at times but our best defender.

Surman 6 - Best game for a long while, overdue, but out od position too much.

Lallana 6 - Shadow of the player he was at the beginign of the season.

Wotton 7 - Best game so far, lacks quality but makes up in effort.

Gillet 8 - Superb engine.

McGoldrick 7 - Good instinct for goal, poor poor penalty though.

Wright-Phillips 6 - Lucky goal, really should have made it 2-0.

Euell - Usual running but lack of skill, went missing in the fsecond half.

all in all should have won 5-3, but like Perry says on OS, sums up our season

Discraceful scenes by hooliganite chavs at the end.

Inevitable.

-10 points next season in League 1 it is then.

We did it to ourselves and got what we deserved. We blew it today big-time........

This game reflected events of the season to a tee. All fart and no shiit.

The final proof that shoe-horning youth players that arent up to it into the team for economic purposes DOESNT WORK.

I have to say it, mate, you are a tw*t. It was not & never was the 'youth' players. It was the overpaid & ineffectual senior players who nobody else wanted that we were unable to shift on and replace with better cheaper players. They were the problem last year and again this. I just hope to god they can finally be got rid of

Gillett was very good today. He reminds me of a young WGS. Hard little chap too! I am anti-kids in Saints shirts but he is definitely one who can stay!

DMG needs to grow up - as soon as he started sulking after he missed the penalty I knew we were doomed.

Smith is 70% of a player, does some good things then ALWAYS screws up his last contribution.

Can't wait to clear some of these kids out and get back to having a real club again.

Mind you... Wotton is League 2 standard.

Disagree wholeheartedly. Our youth are simply not good enough on the whole - for League 1 let alone the CCC.

But, our gross mismanagement of the senior players throughout the season has certainly reduced their motivation I will give you that.

Thats a fair point, but DMG sulked. He needs to grow up fast Nick. I think all this internal bigging him up all year has made him precious. We need a hard manager to make some of these kids grow up next season or we need to sell them.

My player ratings

Davis - 7 - steady and a couple of good saves. He can leave here with his head held high after winning us all round

James - 7 - erratic at times but usually made up for his mistakes (one obvious one excluded

Surman - 7 - looked happier today. Like last year a spell at left back seems to have boosted his confidence

Perry - 7.5 - solid and read the game well

Saeijs - 7 - unlucky for the pen. Otherwise good

Gillett - 7.5 - looked a bit off the pace at times, but a shoe-in for next year's team

Wotton - 7 - League one player. A good lad to have around, I suspect, but never a first eleven player

Lallana - 7 - starting to look the part again

McGoldrick - 7 - great goal, woeful penalty. Showed his inexperience letting the delay unsettle him, but otherwise a hardworking display again

Euell - 7 - Oh Jason, Jason! Enthusiastic & competitive you might be, but talented you are not. If he was a £2k a week find from league one I'd back him to the hilt, but as our highest earner you hope for a bit more quality

BWP - 7 - typical display, occasionally very good, often very bad, always clueless. Again, if he was a youngster with a handful of games you'd be quite excited by him - 3 years in and you know this is as good as it gets & it ain't good enough, I'm afraid

Saga - 6.5 - Industrious but ineffective today, like his last dozen games

Smith - 6.5 - Such a frustrating player. Will he ever come good? Probably not

Schneiderlin - 6.5 - Got the Liptak role today

Wotte - 7 - Gave it his best shot & the players clearly work for him

The crowd - 8.5 - bl**dy excellent throughout & stopped me feeling miserable till the end

We will be back. we have a talented bunch of youngsters if we can keep them & balance them with some steady pros we will go up. Only Davis of the big earners will be missed. This was the darkest day & I feel quite hopeful for the future

Thought gillett, surman, james and BWP really stood out for me in the first half, all put in 100% and got us two goals.

Things are looking up for next season now that saejis and perry want to stay and i can see james and gillett furthering their careers here which will be fantastic.

why if this lot had played all season we would have , imo, survived. the problem was we played the first half of the season as an experiment if JPS had been their rather than some of the others we tried, if Gillett had been there.

but we had the dutch experiment of sideways football

Sums it up for me - as well as your game review.

I actually bloody enjoyed that game today.

With a bit better defending (and settled defence), playing that side today we could have finished comfortably mid-table and with crowds of 20-25k watching us win more regularly.

Of course the two one-on-ones should have been scored (BWP and Gillet) and how some of our other efforts missed (Lallana) is beyond me.

But fundamentally, a really good game there. Good to watch and entertaining throughout. What a pity it's all too late...

Totally wrong - Euell, Skacel, BWP, Saga, Thomas were all pants last year & (Thomas excepted) have been the same this year. Gillett, James, McG & even Lallana have come on excellently. I agree that their progress was uneven & I agree that they were all overexposed & suffered when they weren't given a breather, but they and the other young lads didn't let us down. The senior pros did not earn their money & refused to let us replace them. This is not political, I'm past all that, but the youngsters took unfair stick because Lowe supported them & the others became some kind of martyrs because Lowe tried to force them out. Skacel has spent two years trying to find someone to match his ludicrous wages here & yet he is still idolised as a victim of the management. Those guys & the money they were on were the root of all our problems last year & this

There were plenty of others on here who also thought it was a good idea, seem to have gone rather quiet lately though. What a complete and utter waste of a season, all brought about by Wilde and Lowe, and their complete lack of understanding of football. Thank God they are gone, lets just hope that it stays that way and they never darken our doors again. Sad thing is that despite the FL punishment, Wilde and Lowe get away with nothing other than a hole in their pocket, while true supporters have to put up with the results.

No doubt Jonah, 19 Canteen/Guided Missile, NickH etc. will be scratching their heads right now, wondering how to pin the blame on someone else (anyone but the adored Lord Lowe).

Although I have been resigned to it for some time, tonight I am VERY VERY angry at what this band of boardroom idiots have done to our club.

My ratings for Saints v Burnley (2-2)

K Davis 8- Another fine performance from our best player , several top 2ND half stops as usual . We'll going to miss him if he goes .

L James 6.5- Sound enough game without being particularly outstanding . On the whole not a bad 1st season at all .

JPS 6.5- A good shift marred by a needless penalty given away .

C Perry 7.5- The model pro made flesh , I'm more than happy he's staying

A Surman 6- No lack of effort , but a very obvious lack of confidence on display again.

P Wotton 6.5- I love his attitude and leadership , if only that were all it took to be a good footballer.

S Gillett 8 MOTM- Where the hell did he come from ! A magnificent effort this lad is destined to become a fans favorite before long . Knee surgery 3 weeks ago ? no problem . :prayer:

DMG 6.5- Got his goal but the image of him thumping the ground in frustration after he missed the crucial pen sums up our whole season - at least he cares .

A Lallana 7- He ran himself into the ground for the cause today and certainly deserves no criticism . Perhaps we've expected too much from him.

BWP 7.5- Looking dangerous & even doing a passable impersonation of a winger he scored again as well . Has upped his game to win a new contract ? - perish the thought [-X

The Mule 7.5- Worked tirelessly for the team & quite useful , but he's just not going to be a prolific striker at this stage of his career .

Substitutes :

M Saganowski 4- (on for Gillett) Had 20 minutes , did almost nothing in them.

R Smith 6- (on for Lallana) Bit of an enigma , gets himself into advanced positions well - then bodges the final ball.

M Schneiderlin - Late sub, you've got to ask yourself if a old warhorse like Wotton & a convalescent Gillett start ahead of you where is your career going exactly ?

Summary :

I thought we played like men today and were desperately unlucky not to win it easily . If only we'd put in this sort of performance all season we'd be fine - too late now I hear you say . :(

But I didn't walk away from St Marys despondent like some of the younger fans were , L1 isn't the end of the world & I've seen enough to believe that with a new owner , good preparation and a modest amount of investment in the team we could do well next season .

'Sotonius Resurgum' - the Saints will rise again !

Odd moment of the day- I parked next to Tiff Needle in the multi-storey . Not here to buy a football club appently .

From hero to zero in a blink, he was totally gutted at missing it and for me showed how much that meant as it took him ages to get over.

Had it gone in then he would of had his name in lights...unfortunately it was a poor effort and easy for the keeper. A shame as he had the balls to step up and take it.

You just are not bright enough to realise that it was not down to just 1 person or group.

I do not adore RL but understood what he was tring to do under difficult financial pressures.

As for the chance of him returning appalls me.I want them ALL gone lock stock and barrel, never to return.

Thought it was actually a very entertaining game, but the inability to convert such good chances just sums up why we are where we are. Nice to see so many players getting MOM nominations...shows they all put in 100%.

What did everyone think of that offside desicion in the first half? Can't remember who it was (Euell?) had the ball looked like he was about to pass to BWP(?) - but didn't because he probably saw him straying offside - yet Euell was still flagged off despite looking like he'd just gone past the defender.

Seemed like the linesman (the one on the Itchen side) didn't even understand the rules from where I was. He was woeful all day.

Good atmosphere for the match though but was crining from the stands during the pitch invasion. What good did everyone think it would do? Received some nice negative publicity from ITV on the Championship for that.

A lot of the problems in defence are caused by overage slow defenders. Add to that young inexperienced midfielders who don't know how to cover a defender's run and boy have we had a problem. Our new manager has to stop the flood of goals going in and then maybe the pressure on the frontmen may drop to an acceptable level.

I remember Div3 south and even finishing in top half of our league when the leagues changed to Divisions 3 and 4. We were here before and will go back up soon of that I am feeling sure. Hopefully I will still be here but if not my son and daughters will be. ST holder next season for first time in years? Definitely!

For the first time I thought that Ryan Smith may turn into an ok player.I agree his final ball was lacking but if we give him time his pace and trickery may just be something we can harness. He really did frighten them with his pace. Give him some slack and see if he develops.

He has played in League 1 a few times but soon disapeared to Milwall reserves.

I can see what you are saying but yesterday he looked very sharp and was really quick.Perhaps a bit of attention to his crossing could change our view.Frankly in our state vwe need him to become good.
