Danny Posted 23 April, 2009 Posted 23 April, 2009 We're down then. http://www.dailyecho.co.uk/news/4314803.Saints_are_relegated_as_league_deduct_points/

Topcat Posted 23 April, 2009 Posted 23 April, 2009 I wish I had been wrong but I said this is what the League would do. Since we are already heading for relegation we will start next season 10 points down. Why oh why did those idiots Lowe, Cowan, Jones and Wilde carry on beyond the March deadline?
Bald Headed Jesus Posted 23 April, 2009 Posted 23 April, 2009 We're down then. http://www.dailyecho.co.uk/news/4314803.Saints_are_relegated_as_league_deduct_points/ Our best possible outcome is starting next season in League 1 with zero points and even that is highly unlikely!
Give it to Ron Posted 23 April, 2009 Posted 23 April, 2009 Just heard it on the radio too, but they're saying the points deduction will apply next season. It will if we finish in the botton 3 this season.
Dan Johnson Posted 23 April, 2009 Posted 23 April, 2009 Just heard it on the radio too, but they're saying the points deduction will apply next season. As the insolvency event occurred after The Football League’s deadline of the fourth Thursday in March, the points deduction will take effect either: 1. In the current season, if Southampton avoid relegation to League 1; or 2. Next season, if the club does not avoid relegation. We're down either way...
lordswoodsaints Posted 23 April, 2009 Posted 23 April, 2009 Didn't think it would happen but we deserve it,not us fans but the club.
Barry the Badger Posted 23 April, 2009 Posted 23 April, 2009 So now the players are basically playing to prevent us starting on -10 next season, although it's pretty unlikely anyway. Can't believe it's come to this.
bridge too far Posted 23 April, 2009 Posted 23 April, 2009 It will if we finish in the botton 3 this season. Yes you're right - I was only quoting what was said on Radio 5 Live. However, this confirms that it might apply this season if we 'stay up'. http://www.football-league.co.uk/page/News/ChampionshipNewsDetail/0,,10794~1636735,00.html

ladysaint Posted 23 April, 2009 Posted 23 April, 2009 No more than what we deserved RL wasnt being as clever as he thought. So does it start next season then.
bridge too far Posted 23 April, 2009 Posted 23 April, 2009 But then we wouldn't be in the bottom 3....oh never mind! You know full well what I mean
slickmick Posted 23 April, 2009 Posted 23 April, 2009 Well well, clever Rupert eh ? How will that effect a takeover then ?
Marsdinho Posted 23 April, 2009 Posted 23 April, 2009 The only good to come from this is that its a step closer to hitting "the all time low" At least we all know where we stand now. F**ked.
Junior Mullet Posted 23 April, 2009 Posted 23 April, 2009 Incredible. Lowe couldn't even get the avoidance on this right. What sheer and utter incompetance. Presumably we will appeal if we find a buyer in time to make an appeal. The one glimmer of hope is that all bidders effectively know where the club stands and can put up or shut up.
Sevvy Posted 23 April, 2009 Posted 23 April, 2009 So ok we are probably relegated, so lets go and enjoy the day, at least the lads know where we are, so at least they can go out and just play. come on you reds
OldNick Posted 23 April, 2009 Posted 23 April, 2009 the league know we aint got a pot to p in and so realise we cant afford to pay lawyers. Goodbye Saints as we know them.
slickmick Posted 23 April, 2009 Posted 23 April, 2009 Can the like of Jonah and Canteen 19 explain why Lowe couldn't have asked Barclays to force our hand one week earlier if they knew it was coming ?
jasonbenali Posted 23 April, 2009 Posted 23 April, 2009 The question is will the club appeal as they said they would if memory serves?
Painswick Saint Posted 23 April, 2009 Posted 23 April, 2009 I wish I had been wrong but I said this is what the League would do. Since we are already heading for relegation we will start next season 10 points down. Why oh why did those idiots Lowe, Cowan, Jones and Wilde carry on beyond the March deadline? Here, here. I agree completely
slickmick Posted 23 April, 2009 Posted 23 April, 2009 So ok we are probably relegated, so lets go and enjoy the day, at least the lads know where we are, so at least they can go out and just play. come on you reds No. we still need to finish outside the bottom three to survive a 10 point penalty next season. If were still around.
KK the 2nd Posted 23 April, 2009 Posted 23 April, 2009 So as I understand it we are down under either scenario. However if we finish out of the bottom three before the 10 point deduction then the 10 point deduction takes us down but we start with a level playing field in League One. If we were in the bottom three anyway at the end of the season then we start League One with minus 10. So the next two matches actually are important (both 5 pointers in a way!).
Golden Balls Posted 23 April, 2009 Posted 23 April, 2009 i cant see how this can happen if the rules didnt state that we can do this. Had we set up the company just to put it into admin, then thats fair. But the company was set up in 1996. Derby did the same. Do we have rights to appeal?
Chez Posted 23 April, 2009 Posted 23 April, 2009 absolutely gutted. No matter how unrealistic it was that we would win the next two games and survive AND not get docked points the reality still hits you hard. Gutted.
Hatch Posted 23 April, 2009 Posted 23 April, 2009 Sod the Forest game being a six-pointer. It's now a 13 pointer..Cool.
Arizona Posted 23 April, 2009 Posted 23 April, 2009 So now the players are effectively playing to prevent a 10 points deduction at the start of next season, when most of them wont be here. Fantastic motivation for the last 2 games...
Pancake Posted 23 April, 2009 Posted 23 April, 2009 The the OS headlines? "And The Winners Are...." "Great Escapes Part 4" ****ing ****wits.
Beer Engine Posted 23 April, 2009 Posted 23 April, 2009 It's the correct decision and inevitable ... but an absolute disaster for SFC all the same. The decision to postpone administration until after the end-March deadline must have been the product of extreme stupidity and/or arrogance. As things stand, I think that the 10 point deduction at the start of next season is the least of our problems.
andysstuff Posted 23 April, 2009 Posted 23 April, 2009 So now the players are effectively playing to prevent a 10 points deduction at the start of next season, when most of them wont be here. Fantastic motivation for the last 2 games... They've hardly looked motivated up till now, and can't see a miraculous change before Saturday. -10 next season if we're still around. Sad day.
derry Posted 23 April, 2009 Posted 23 April, 2009 This could run and run, the league's rules don't cover this and they are making policy up on the hoof. The club will appeal. the SLH may sue them if that doesn't work. The club could also now decide to go into administration to make them more attractive and sod the league and exit with a CVA and new owners with more money to spend.
RoswellSaint Posted 23 April, 2009 Posted 23 April, 2009 Didn't the FL say to SLH that there would be no points deduction if only SLH went into administration? But, typical of football authorities, they make the rules up as they go along. Bullied by other clubs? In the great scheme of things, its a relatively minor point. Far more important is finding a buyer. Anyone that has been looking will have been planning on the basis that we would likely be in League One next season - now they know for sure. Growing up just outside Yeovil, I never thought they would ever play Saints in a league game - guess the Glovers can still get relegated themselves or we could drop out of the league completely.
slickmick Posted 23 April, 2009 Posted 23 April, 2009 Michael Wilde, You and your bum chum have destroyed this club with your bullsh1t and incompetence.
mattbrennan Posted 23 April, 2009 Posted 23 April, 2009 (edited) Gutted for us. Edited 25 April, 2009 by mattbrennan Some idiot fiddled my account.
RoswellSaint Posted 23 April, 2009 Posted 23 April, 2009 Fully expected. Fully expecting another -15. Why? That's if we don't get a creditor's agreement to come out of administration. We're not there yet.
Rational Rich Posted 23 April, 2009 Posted 23 April, 2009 This could run and run, the league's rules don't cover this and they are making policy up on the hoof. The club could also now decide to go into administration to make them more attractive and sod the league and exit with a CVA and new owners with more money to spend. Spot on, this is a stupid decision as it will just lead to litigation (at the cost of the creditors), uncertainty, etc. Will be interesting to see the basis on which they think they can do this.
EFM Posted 23 April, 2009 Posted 23 April, 2009 Jeez, we still desperately need to "stay up" just to be relegated but without the points deduction next season. Not in my worst nightmares..................
thesaint sfc Posted 23 April, 2009 Posted 23 April, 2009 I never saw it coming to this when we were relegated from the Prem.
