scott_saints Posted 23 April, 2009 Posted 23 April, 2009 I'm sure we will all be celebrating just as we would with Paddy's day!!
Thorpe-le-Saint Posted 23 April, 2009 Posted 23 April, 2009 I've got more important things to be doing such as wiping my arse
StuRomseySaint Posted 23 April, 2009 Posted 23 April, 2009 I have the day booked off... show some f*cking pride you c*nts. I am off to the pub in a minute to get smashed on real English Ales. Keep St George in my heart, keep me English.
miserableoldgit Posted 23 April, 2009 Posted 23 April, 2009 I've got more important things to be doing such as wiping my arse Makes you feel proud to be English.
keithd Posted 23 April, 2009 Posted 23 April, 2009 im proud of the country i live in, just dont feel i need to get ****ted to prove it. nor have a day off.
the stain Posted 23 April, 2009 Posted 23 April, 2009 I can think of nothing more emblematic of Englishness than SRS sat on his own in the pub, getting smashed and singing.
swannymere Posted 23 April, 2009 Posted 23 April, 2009 'Now order the ranks, and fling wide the banners, for our souls are God's and our bodies the King's, and our swords for St.George and for England.'
Arizona Posted 23 April, 2009 Posted 23 April, 2009 Nothing makes me more proud to be Ethiopian than a Roman soldier who killed a lizard.
Sheaf Saint Posted 23 April, 2009 Posted 23 April, 2009 show some f*cking pride you c*nts. Pride in what exactly?
Hatch Posted 23 April, 2009 Posted 23 April, 2009 im proud of the country i live in, just dont feel i need to get ****ted to prove it. nor have a day off. ditto. And the excuse that, The Irish do it so we must, is the reasoning of an 8 year old.
Scudamore Posted 23 April, 2009 Posted 23 April, 2009 ditto. And the excuse that, The Irish do it so we must, is the reasoning of an 8 year old. How's about celebrating with fireworks, carnivals and the like instead of just boozing it up? Australia Day and Independence Day should be our points of reference for patriotism as opposed to the Guinness marketing genius...
norwaysaint Posted 23 April, 2009 Posted 23 April, 2009 St George's Day leaves me cold. What's the point of celebrating a saint's day anyway, nobody else apart from Ireland does? Norway's national day on the other hand is a great day with parades, flags and parties all over the place. The main difference for me is the way people handle their patriotism. Too many English people are unable to love England without hating other countries. They seem to need an unhealthy dose of hatred in their patriotism. Norway's national day, and probably that of many other countries, is organised with the kids in mind. It's essentially a day especially for children which makes it far more heartwarming than people spouting on about empires and once being the greatest country in the world but now it's being ruined by immigrants/new labour/Rupert Lowe blahblahblah or getting drunk on proper English beer.

A good idea Scudamore, but I think we need to focus on something more worthy than the memorial day of someone who may or may not have existed, almost certainly didn't slay a dragon, definitely never even visited England, and whom we share as patron saint with numerous other countries.

Fine by me. Any suggestions? Matt Le Tissier's Birthday perhaps?
bungle Posted 23 April, 2009 Posted 23 April, 2009 Fine by me. Any suggestions? Matt Le Tissier's Birthday perhaps? He was from Guernsey, not England.
Hatch Posted 23 April, 2009 Posted 23 April, 2009 Fine by me. Any suggestions? Matt Le Tissier's Birthday perhaps? Can't believe you are even asking, what with it being such a recent memory... It clearly has to be Englands Princess, the one and only Jade Goody. A fitting tribute if ever I saw one.
Dog Posted 23 April, 2009 Posted 23 April, 2009 I shall visit the pub tonite as I always do, not to celebrate St Georges' day, as I hate the lizard killing Turk, but the landlady has a great pair of clangers and does a great trick with a jar of gherkins. We NEED a new St. George!!!
Scudamore Posted 23 April, 2009 Posted 23 April, 2009 He was from Guernsey, not England. Never has one man done so much for England...
miserableoldgit Posted 23 April, 2009 Posted 23 April, 2009 Fine by me. Any suggestions? Matt Le Tissier's Birthday perhaps? October 21st. Trafalgar Day.
Deppo Posted 23 April, 2009 Posted 23 April, 2009 Well, it's certainly turning out to be a memorable day...
bungle Posted 23 April, 2009 Posted 23 April, 2009 Well, it's certainly turning out to be a memorable day... Yup. One of Hatch's tips actually placed for a change.

Keep St George in my heart, keep me English. Yeah, nothing like showing pride in a Turkish knight who we employed the services of during the crusades. Wowsers!

Wiltshire Saint Posted 23 April, 2009 Posted 23 April, 2009 'F*ck off Norway'. +1 If you love Norway so much norwaysaint, why don't you f*ck off there to live?
