saintwarwick Posted 19 April, 2009 Share Posted 19 April, 2009 Why? Surely if it was Saints v Pompey we would want Pompey to go down? Correct Ipswich would love to see Norwich relegated (and vice versa) just like we would like our rivals to.
saintwarwick Posted 19 April, 2009 Share Posted 19 April, 2009 As unlikely as it seems we will stay up by 1 point. Norwich lose 2-1 at Ipswich tomorrow. We beat Burnley 1-0 next week Forest lose 1-0 at Blackpool Norwich lose 1-0 at home to Reading. We win 2-1 at Forest Norwich win 2-1 at Charlton. Bottom 3 at the end of the season. FOREST NORWICH CHARLTON Its possible. Keep the faith, we relied on other teams to keep us in this league last season.
M271 Posted 19 April, 2009 Share Posted 19 April, 2009 IF we can regain that all to brief glimpse of form that we showed in late February/early March when we beat Preston, Cardiff and Ipswich (why did that form evaporate again?), then we can win against Burnley. Then hopefully we are still 'in the mix' for the last game of the season against Nottingham Forest, odds are obviously against us though. I won't give up hope until its mathematically impossible. COYR.

M271 Posted 19 April, 2009 Share Posted 19 April, 2009 Difficult as it is putting emotion to one side, to state the bleedin obvious facts: Ignoring goal difference that needs big changes to be advantaguous to Saints IF Saints win their next 2 matches !! then if 2 of the 3 scenarios below happen we will stay up IF Forest lose their next match at Blackpool IF Barnsley get no more than 2 points in their 3 matches left IF Norwich get no more than 3 points in their 3 matches left I'm probably clutching at straws but its not over 'til its over, but one things for sure we have to perform much better then yesterday and the players have to be up for the fight !! However I think Forest will draw 0-0 and Saints will win 2-0 thus meaning we'd need to win at the City Ground by 2 goals to stay up. We will. It will be 3-1 to Saints. Simple. Tractor_Saint Posted 19 April, 2009 Share Posted 19 April, 2009 Ipswich would probably prefer Norwich staying up rather than Saints. Hello???? Saints and Ipswich are very very similar clubs. Their supporters are of the same ilk and, although the violence between Ipswich and Norwich is no where near what happens when Saints & Pompey play, todays win was such a double win for us - potentially putting Norwich in the relegation and hopefully giving Soton the chance for one final push. COYR - will sing my heart out on Saturday Please, believe me, Ipswich would very much like Norwich to go down and the Saints to stay up. Summers Posted 20 April, 2009 Share Posted 20 April, 2009 It is over if Norwich win tomorrow. If they lose we have a glimmer, and a slight one at that. Well, part one - complete.. Nothing less than a win on Saturday. otherwise, its season over. Fact.
wild-saint Posted 20 April, 2009 Share Posted 20 April, 2009 I find it bizarre that many slag the players for having no fight at the weekend but most fans gave up the fight long ago. Lets hope the players dont read these forums.

bungle Posted 20 April, 2009 Share Posted 20 April, 2009 Felt really down on Saturday, but while there is a chance I will keep getting behind them. Just have to hope it gets to the last day and then you never know. At least we are playing one of the teams down there with us, which gives us more of a chance. Don't think it's likely, but if we can at least get to the last game with a chance then you never know.
DT Posted 20 April, 2009 Share Posted 20 April, 2009 Not going to happen as our players are all bottling out for fear of affecting their dream moves to Pompey, or in DMG's case, Forest. Real issue is having a club at all, which must be diminishing as the price drops ever lower based on League One and points deduction (our luck is so shiite that this is bound to happen). Pretty bleak. And my bet on Pompey to go down is looking rubbish too. They got rid of their ineffective manager at the right time - NB Rupert 'very low IQ' Lowe. Bye Saints. DT Posted 20 April, 2009 Share Posted 20 April, 2009 PS Billy Davies. Those of us wanting him at ours were right. Instils discipline and knows how to work this league. Two things obviously not on Rupert's list. His one reads: 'cheap'?
SKATE_HATE Posted 20 April, 2009 Share Posted 20 April, 2009 Barnsley will lose on wednesday and then looking at the weekends games it is very likely that forest, norwich and barnsley will lose. A win for saints would mean we're only in the relegation zone by goal difference. With Plymouth still not 100% safe on the last day I can't see barnsley getting anything there so a point at forest might just be enough. Im sure if it was to filter through to the players on the pitch that a draw keeps both teams up then it will be a draw. This is supposing Norwich don't beat charlton on the last day but I can't see it happening IMHO. Charlton will want to go out with a bang and bring who ever they can with them. Staying up is still very possible! COYR!!!!!
Plumstead_Saint Posted 20 April, 2009 Share Posted 20 April, 2009 I want to believe it's possible, so while there is still a chance.... Let's hope Barnsley lose. Then Saturday really is a 'must win game'.
Cabrone Posted 20 April, 2009 Share Posted 20 April, 2009 Well the players know what they have to do against Burnley, its win or bust. At least it's a simple situation. I personally don't think that the Forest game will be the ultimate decider that many on here do as they will be clear by then. However that particular scenario could play into our hands as Forest may just coast against us. However if we don't win on Sat all of this is probably academic. .....and furthermore none of this means anything if we don't get a backer.......... Burnley's motivation will be too intense for us I'm afraid. They're not certain of their play off place yet. Their game against Sheff U is no gimme and then Swansea will be breathing down their necks. I don't see us getting any more points t all. I was overoptimistic, I thought we'd thump Charlton and be OK, that day changed my whole opinion.
Master Bates Posted 20 April, 2009 Share Posted 20 April, 2009 I'm sorry to say, but back in the old days of the PL survivals, the club still had a heart. That is all gone now. Of the players almost none have any real affinity with the club beyond the next cheque (surman excepted), and neither does he manager, and we don't have a board of directors. Its all gone. The only ones left who care are the fans. The team has no fighting spirit, certainly not enough. The Charlton game proved that, and no doubt todays capitulation did too. We fans may have to show fighting spirit to keep our club alive, but hoping that the first team squad will chip in with some is a long shot. Surman has said he can't afford to stay at Saints next season, can't name the source.

I admire your optimism mate, and I'll be giving it my all at the Burnley and Forest games, but it's just not going to happen. I trust the other teams to be sh*te, but I just don't trust us to be any better. The team will somehow get a win against an unexpectedly poor Burnley and then wilt like the useless pansies they are in the pressure of the Forest game. I'd bet any money on it.
