I'm sure hundreds of us (myself included) will make the trip up to Nottingham Forest without a ticket. Does anyone know of a decent pub we can take over, watch Sky Sports and generally make a lot of noise in?

This is the advertised pub:

Larwood and Voce Tavern

The pub is a real away fans haven, and is highly recommended for any travelling fan. Situated only a few hundred yards away from the Bridgford Stand where the away fans are situated, this pub offers excellent food, a big screen TV, and above all a warm welcome for away fans. The pub itself adjoins the cricket ground. To find the pub from the ground, turn right off Radcliffe Road, near the pedestrian crossing, into Fox Road, and the pub is approx 100 yards along of the right hand side.

BUT

I''ve just rang them up and they no longer allow away supporters. The landlord said he thinks there's a pub called "Travellers" which is near Notts Countys ground that serves away fans.

How do you know you definitely won't get one?

Well, I'm a member and I am generally pessimistic about my chances of beating the ST holders to a ticket.

Anyway, I think making sure we have a pub to call our own that day is essential.

Where to drink

Our neighbours Notts County will provide you with refreshments at ‘The Meadow Club’ which is part of their Meadow Lane ground, which is funnily enough located on Meadow Lane! Look out for the floodlights and the lego/mecchano-like structure and you’ll find it. Just off London Road. This is generally the only pub in the immediate vicinity of the ground that allows away fans in now.

Linky thing..

Sounds a bit ****, but from what i've read and from speaking to the landlord at the pub i rang i don't think you'll find much else unless you head into the city centre.

The 200 yard journey made slightly more difficult by the river trent...

You could use the bridge that crosses the river Trent...

Can't for the life of me remember what it's called though...

Looks like the Forest grounsman is a lot better than the County one going by the pics above.

Maybe Meadow Lane is the East Midlands home of Beach Volleyball ???

(PS Have to say the spelling of County looks wobbly as well)

Thank you.

You REALLY don't want to go swimming in the Trent.

While some species of fish are coming back due to cleaner water,

the amount of power stations and sewage works all pumping into

the river make it a very unattractive proposition.

I've only been in there once when I fell out of a canoe and that was more than enough for me.

Hi,

A few words from someone who is local to the River Trent.

The width of the River Trent at Trent Bridge, Nottingham is 300 ft

(92m) wide and 8ft (2.5m) deep.

At Newark, the width is about 150 ft (45m) although you would think

that since the river at Newark is nearer its mouth it should be wider.

This is due to the fact that the river splits into two at Staythorpe just

before Newark. This other branch meanders under the Kelham

Bridge to the North West of Newark. Here the width of the river is

about 300ft (92m).

Ferries across the river are pretty rare nowdays and probably more

available(?) nearer to Newark. Road (and rail) bridges are the normal

way of crossing the river.

River trips are available during the summer at Trent Bridge and at

Newark.

The river hasn't frozen up for a long time, as there are now a several

power stations on its banks which maintain the river temperature

above freezing point.

Yes it is a much cleaner river than 30 years ago due to cut back in

industrial effluent. But do not swim in or fall into it. It is a treacherous

river with very strong under currents and carries "bugs" which non

locals to the area will find debilitating.

The river does flood badly about every 3 three years, although not

that much in recent years due to the reduced rain fall weather pattern

we are experiencing.

Dutch engineers built a comprehensive sluice system to the east of

Nottingham city, which diverts the flood water onto a flood plain. This

has removed the flooding of south Nottingham suburbs which used

to occur at least once a year.

Hope that this helps.
