Arizona Posted 16 April, 2009 Posted 16 April, 2009 Bit of fun, inspired by the Ronaldo thread. I can think of... GK: Niemi - Fulham - Didn't score, but that vollied assist is as close as we can get I think. RB: Dodd - Portsmouth - Direct from a corner CB: JPS - Watford - That free kick CB: Baird - Cardiff - Absolute screamer from a free kick. LB: Skacel - Yeovil - As above RM: Fernandes - Chelsea - Curling effort from way out in 2002 CM: MLT - Blackburn - Could pick from 10 really CM: Oakley - Portsmouth - Belter in the cup in '05 LM: Pahars - Man Utd - The one where he dribbled through the whole defence. ST: Channon - Liverpool - Best team goal ever bar none. ST: Beattie - West Brom - Absolute howitzer at SMS in 2003. Sure some of the older fans will be able to think of much better candidates.
70's Mike Posted 16 April, 2009 Posted 16 April, 2009 Ivan Golac against WBA at the Dell , hardest shot i ever saw, in at RB Barry Horne at Dell from 40 yards , cannot remember opponents, in at RM Shilton in goal, he scored for Leicester against Saints Will have to search memory banks
dubai_phil Posted 16 April, 2009 Posted 16 April, 2009 RB Ivan Golac - cannot remember who it was (maybe WBA) hit a screamer from the right side of the pitch as he ran onto it CB Russell Osman - comedy own goal no idea who it was against CM Alan Ball vs Coventry in the 5-5 draw. He took the ball direct from the kick off took what seemed to be about 5 steps and just hit it. Keeper never moved and I am still convinced to this day that he was just on the edge of the circle when he hit it
explorer saint Posted 16 April, 2009 Posted 16 April, 2009 This has been done before same answer as last Horne v Bolton
SuperSAINT Posted 16 April, 2009 Posted 16 April, 2009 Kevin Davies vs Everton @ Goodison live on SKY... Picked ball up from the half-way line & ran through everyone!
Saint_clark Posted 16 April, 2009 Posted 16 April, 2009 This has been done before same answer as last Horne v Bolton I don't think you quite understand the premise of the thread
John Boy Saint Posted 16 April, 2009 Posted 16 April, 2009 Plenty to choose from which makes it hard: In recent times Bairds vicious exocet when it looked like we had fluffed another chance. CMFG Maize up at Portman Road. Far too many from MLT although his ricochet in off a totally ignored Franny Benalis head deserves the subs bench at least. Danny Wallace overhead V Liverpool David Peach rounding Shilton to slot home the opener v Forest in the league cup final a strikers level headed finish from a defender. None of them will make it but they were the ones that popped into my head at the time of typing, far too many are still on vinyl in the corners of my mind.
revolution saint Posted 16 April, 2009 Posted 16 April, 2009 This has been done before same answer as last Horne v Bolton yep, me too. Was saying at work only the other day that however good MLT's goals were (and they were good) nothing for me beat seeing Horne smash that goal from 40 yards out deep into injury time to save us from going out of the cup.
The Majestic Channon Posted 16 April, 2009 Posted 16 April, 2009 Also Nick holmes scored a couple from what must have been 40-45 yards, one against liverpool and one in the first leg of THAT league cup tie v watford.
oxfordshire_saint Posted 16 April, 2009 Posted 16 April, 2009 Although we hate the bloke, Kevin Phillips' belter at Leicester on the first day of the season one year has to be up there? For Beatts, I'd rather choose his 40 yard effort after a few seconds at Stamford Bridge once, or possibly his free-kick there one New Years Day? As for Fernandes, I'd have picked his free-kick vs West Ham at St Mary's which almost took the net off, or his goal at Old Trafford in the game where Forlan scored a cracking winner for Utd and then couldn't get his top back on. Also, what about Marsden against Ipswich!!!!!!!!!!!
LaptopSaint Posted 17 April, 2009 Posted 17 April, 2009 For me the significance of the occasion is just as important. So Pahars with his little diving header to secure safety, BT scoring with his arse in the semi final against Watford (right in front of where I was sitting in the Watford end), David Peach at Wembley, Henri Camara with his shirt off, and of course Bobby. And, of course of course Steve Moran at Fratton. Oh man that was good.
Lets B Avenue Posted 17 April, 2009 Posted 17 April, 2009 Better Fernandes goal in the last minute v. Everton 04 at the Chapel end. Terry Paine away at W. Ham 68 when he got to the by-line, checked back onto his left and curled it in at the far post. Tommy Jenkins (also away at W.Ham 70) ran from our box to theirs, beating Bobby Moore twice and smacking it in from just inside the area.
Smirking_Saint Posted 17 April, 2009 Posted 17 April, 2009 Lol, i remember the niemi one, i was at Ewood park watching blackburn v arsenal (staying with friend who was blackburn ST holder) my mates were giving me updates and then i got a phone call to say Niemi had scored. I jumped up and down and went mental screaming about Niemi scoring. Everyone around me looked at me (quite rightly) like some sort of weirdo Lol
