You're welcome. If I had to see Hammond's (who they call Hamster I believe - genius) face on the front of The Sun etc (no I don't read it) every day for a week after he crashed a car attempting some ridiculous high-speed stunt, you can all read my opinion of him.

29 years and 50 weeks old... early "miserable old git" syndrome?

Every series of top gear. Cannot think of anything worse. Never been excited by cars and cannot stand Clarkson (ignorant) or Hammond (attention seeker).

I do wish people would stop using the word ignorant in the wrong context.

It is a car show, funnily enough about cars, a subject which I think you'll agree Clarkson knows a lot about. That is NOT ignorance.

He may well be arrogant....

Clarkson knows a lot of cars, He doesn't know a lot about cars. He doesn't seem to know the detail and internal parts that make a car. He even refers to torque i.e the turning force a car engine can generate, as torques, so he manages to get the understanding and language incorrect. By his own admission, he's hardly ever lifted a spanner, and I doubt if he even knows what actual components are required to make an engine or running parts.

Whereas I would consider important things like price, performance, longevity, ease of maintenance, efficiency and economy; all these things are lost on him. With Jeremy it's all about laddishness and lifestyle. Which is a trillion miles away from how I view a car.

And for all his supposed style, he even manages not to appreciate icon cars like the Citroen DS1. But I'll still watch him, because he can occasionally come up with the right sentence at the right time. And then he's worth all the bullsh!te.

I think if you want a serious review on a car, fifth gear is the programme to watch. Top Gear is more just entertainment, which happens to involve cars. Driving second hand cars accross the deep south and Botswana. Biking accross Vietnam, sending a Reliant Robin into space... none of this is relevant to new car buyers. It's just entertainment.

Also, I think Clarkson is taking the p*ss when he refers to a car as having "lots of toques". I am sure he isn't that stupid and that the BBC wouldn't broadcast that if it wasn't deliberate.

He may know about cars but when it comes to living in the 21st Century, he is truely ignorant.

Xenophobia, sexism, wearing trousers way too small for his huge belly, liking ****** weak wine-bar-rock, all these things have no place in our brave new world. Some people love him and good for them, but to me he represents all that is wrong with this country, the small-minded 'little englander', happy to deny climate change because, as he's openly admitted many times, he doesn't see why he should walk anywhere. Well, thanks for playing a key role in killing the planet, you annoying, and yes, arrogant ****.

Hammond is quite likable, whilst the other one is the blandest being alive, undoubtedly created in a petree dish somewhere.

LOL.

Not one of those things make him ignorant, except ignorance of YOUR opinion of things.

All of the above make him arrogant, and I'm pretty sure he'll agree with that assesment of himself :D

I still watch Top Gear even though it is wearing a bit thin now (stupid big oaf laughs at the small clever one's jokes and in turn both take the **** out of the sad slow quiet one whilst on a blatantly staged 'challenge'.) Still, a well put together and watchable show.

Good website I found whilst trying to work out some of the tunes they use in episodes -

you're probably right, the closest i've come to having any respect for the guy was after his appearances on QI where he did well, winning one of them i think. this lead to a moment of confusion but, thank god, clarkson is guaranted to come out with something that only a daily mail colomnist could say and normal service is resumed.

phew, just for a minute i lost myself.

I'm pretty sure that unless you are a member of the weaker sex you should certainly not let sexism bother you...

I know he writes in the Sun and the Telegraph...

No mate, has a regular column in The Sunday Times (ironically to alot of people on here he always slates Mail and Telegraph readers in it) - does a new car review every week (quality, NO other newspaper allows a columnist to openly pan new cars, everyone else panders to advertisers) and a lifestyle piece where he rants about chavs or takes the **** about someone or other (his piece a few weeks ago about Ex-Pats was awesone).

Not sure about the Sun, think he's still in there on a Saturday, only read it during the week.

Amusing and to be expected from Jezza, but I'm not sure he has actually met (m)any normal expats other than some he met in Majorca?

Having been linked to JC's Times column, I read a couple of his efforts. Here' his take on why we, in the West, buy cars.

Tbh, I couldn't agree with him less, because cars are convenient A to B machines, to me. My days of fast cars are over. Now a fast motorbike is something totally different and emotional. And JC doesn't relate to them in the slightest, which is surprising, as they do all that he enjoys, only faster. Hammond and May love them, though. Perhaps he never learned to ride..?

You need to watch the Vietnam special to understand his appreciation of 2 wheeled donor carriers.

Please Ponty, I would ask you to be slightly more sensitive. I have today bought a Honda VFR800Fi, and I don't intend to be making any donations, thank you very much. Hopefully, car drivers will have their eyes open long enough, as I pass. Which shouldn't take too long.

BTW, I have seen the Vietnam special, and I had forgotten that JC practically learned to motorcycle during the trip.
