Neil Posted 13 April, 2009 Posted 13 April, 2009 Jesus, the last two attendances have been great for a championship club and brilliant for a championship club second from bottom. Its been a positive increase since Lowe and its a response to administration not Lowe going (the boycotters were few in number really) and anyone who thinks the response since administration is poor maybe needs a reality check. Jury is still out on that. We will have to see next season when (hopefully) the administrator will be gone as well as Lowe. Good crowds for the last two games.
ThorpG Posted 13 April, 2009 Posted 13 April, 2009 Everyone on here is obsessed with people going / not going. Its like this - I go to every home game because I want to and can afford to (although this season has tested the faith admittedly). Some other people go every game, some people don't go because it is too expensive in hard times, others don't go because they think it is a crap day out, others don't go because we are not in the Premiership. All of these people are entitled to do what they want - these are adults who can make rational decisions with what to do with their own money. So why is everyone on here so pompous if they go to games regularly? We are all Saints who care about the club in our own way. Today was a good crowd, good atmosphere, good win - be happy.
exeter_saint Posted 13 April, 2009 Posted 13 April, 2009 There was 4 of us at the front of the Kingsland North who sang constantly through the second half. Got really annoyed when asked to sit down by someone behind me with a minute left to play. did one of you have short blonde hair and spent the whole game going mental with renditions of 'red army'?
Amesbury Saint Posted 13 April, 2009 Posted 13 April, 2009 did one of you have short blonde hair and spent the whole game going mental with renditions of 'red army'? which block / row?
saintwarwick Posted 13 April, 2009 Posted 13 April, 2009 Well mate dont want to ruin your'e argument but 8 of us boycotted this season under lowe after having a season ticket for 20 years and we have gone back the last 2 games and I know a lot of other people who think like that. Anyway, lowe has gone now and the atmosphere was great, a club united at last, and look what difference it makes. I reckon 32k vs burnley if we get good resuly at sheffield. Mine wasn't an argument just an observance, a club united yes but didn't that happen when the Wilde bunch came in  As I said I'm sure a few anti Lowe have come back but mix that in with cheap tickets against Charlton, kids for a quid today and the rally call from the administrators, all these factors has boosted attendances no end, long may it continue.
um pahars Posted 13 April, 2009 Posted 13 April, 2009 Which should be applauded but the Charlton game was £15.00 and todays game was kids for a quid which would of added to the "extra attendees". No doubt some some anti Lowe fans have come back but I'm sure a rallying cry from the administrators has helped attendances given our plight. Let's hope for a full house against Burnley in our third consecutive win I totally agree, in that people have turned up for the last two games for a myriad of reasons (Lowe gone, cheap tickets, the rallying calls, a car crash, a ray of light etc etc etc), it's just that I thought the cutting remark made by whoever it was didn't really stand up to scrutiny and was unwarranted.

Wish people would concentrate on getting behind the team, than creating totally unnessary divides amongst our fan base. Grow up, ffs
Deanovski Posted 13 April, 2009 Posted 13 April, 2009 thats been my argument the whole time i bet most of them are the bpeople who walked out last week
AwaySaint1 Posted 13 April, 2009 Posted 13 April, 2009 23,000-ish so much for all the people who stayed away because of the board situation coming back - full of ****e the lot of them:( I think you will find that most who said they would come back have now found better things to do on a Saturday than sit on there arse for 90 minutes, its called getting a life. You should try it.

Griffo Posted 13 April, 2009 Posted 13 April, 2009 what a bell endish statement I couldn't think of anything more bell-endish than saying bell-endish.
Saints Ward Posted 13 April, 2009 Posted 13 April, 2009 I thought the fans today were absoluetly brilliant..... If you look at the other attendances then we have done really well considering our home form and position: Derby Vs Wolves = 33,079k Sheff Utd Vs Notts Forest = 28,374k Norwich Vs Watford = 25,487k Saints Vs Palace = 23,220k Cardiff Vs Burnley = 19,379k Birmingham Vs Plymouth = 19,323k Bristol C Vs Ipswich = 16,430K Coventry Vs Charlton = 16,131k QPR vs Sheff Weds = 13,742k Barnsley Vs Smwansea = 11,788k Doncaster Vs Preston = 11,648k Blackpool Vs Reading = 7,722k All the teams who had higher attendances had something to play for. Birmingham had 4k less and they are battling for auto promotion. All in all not bad, would have liked more, but recent peformances would have put people off IMO.

Not a bad crowd, but don't forget we've got a helluva lot to play for ourselves!!
hamster Posted 13 April, 2009 Posted 13 April, 2009 Itchen North was **** until after we scored. Was not imo. Many were quite literally on the edges of their seats. A few lone voices down the front throughout the 90 minutes, and overall quite good vocal support I thought.
cambsaint Posted 13 April, 2009 Posted 13 April, 2009 Remember a lot of people have many competing committments in the Easter holidays, from visiting family, going on holiday and taking the family out. For many family comes before football. I consider the attendance very good all things considered.
SFKA South Woodford Posted 14 April, 2009 Posted 14 April, 2009 No one is saying that they are an uber fan or doesn't understand that people do have other commitments. People are just showing their concern that, other's don't seem to want to get involved with saving the club, by coming along to support the club at the turnstiles in it's hour of need. If we have a couple of hundred thousand people on the database, as being Saints fans, it should be possible for 28 to 32 thousand of them to get to each game, especially now Ruperts gone and that we may no longer have a club to support at the end of this season. The support from those that did make it along today was fantastic, well done to those in Northam for keeping the volume up.

I dont understand, how do derby still have 33k, they have little to play for and their club isnt on the endge of the abys. We desperately need full stadiums to keep our football club alive and its only 23k. Really dont get it.
CHAPEL END CHARLIE Posted 14 April, 2009 Posted 14 April, 2009 The attendance numbers are a bit of a minefield . The evidence of my eyes tells me that St Marys (home sections anyway) was pretty full yesterday - it certainly looked more than 2/3rds full to me anyway . I think the vast majority of season ticket holders are actually turning up now and 'Kids for a quid' always helps to fill the place . Palace didn't bring many down considering it's not that far but that's the shape of things to come if we get relegated - St Marys is just inappropriately big for this clubs core fanbase outside the Premier League I'm afraid . nb - I note half the turnstiles were closed yesterday (at least in the Chapel) , a sensible cost-cutting measure I'd say .
Scummer Posted 14 April, 2009 Posted 14 April, 2009 It did look far more than 23,320. Agreed. While sitting there I'd have estimated the crowd at around 26,000. I don't know where the 9,000 empty seats were.
swannymere Posted 14 April, 2009 Posted 14 April, 2009 My worry is that 'the stay-aways' who've found jesus, DIY, IKEA etc.etc find themselves unable to support the team at what is arguably the most important period in our clubs recent history and put their money where there mouth is and come to a match. I realise that it's always the vocal minority who make the claims of staying away because of the board when in actual fact it's because they don't get to see the 'big players' of the premier league but just admit the truth - Lowe was a convenient excuse;)
TheSaint75 Posted 14 April, 2009 Author Posted 14 April, 2009 7,000 wolves fans To change a light bulb ??
John B Posted 14 April, 2009 Posted 14 April, 2009 I dont understand, how do derby still have 33k, they have little to play for and their club isnt on the endge of the abys. sidthesquid Posted 14 April, 2009 Posted 14 April, 2009 i think the last match will be the one that will be the decider.. and i think its on sky!! We're down then - I think Wolves was our BEST result on Sky this season
saints_is_the_south Posted 14 April, 2009 Posted 14 April, 2009 How many Wolves supporters I wonder But Derby is a well supported club Don't Derby have something like 22k season ticket holders too? Doubt they'll have that much next season. Didn't look like there was 7k Wolves fans there though.
londonsaint1604 Posted 14 April, 2009 Posted 14 April, 2009 did one of you have short blonde hair and spent the whole game going mental with renditions of 'red army'? That bloke was hilarious. He was constantly clapping and doing a little dance, trying to get everyone to sing 'red army'. And he was on his feet a lot of the time even though he was near the front of the kingsland, must have been quite annoying for anyone sat near him.

You claim that the vocal minority are quite happy to claim that they're staying away because of the board and that it is just an excuse because of where we are in the tables. It is reasonable to assume that the only vocal minority are those that express their opinions on forums like this, or in the Echo. Otherwise, of course, nobody would know their reasons for staying away. So you contend that these people are bothered enough to come on these forums or take the time to write to the Echo just for effect? That they give false reasons for not attending, that they have gained a life outside of football, but are nevertheless prepared to squander time on the internet harping on about the club they used to attend? As I say, it is nonsense. The last couple of home games have shown a significant increase in attendances. There might be other factors involved such as special pricing, or a bank holiday, the credit crunch but the increase has been irrefutable. I know of many local businessmen who were died in the wool Saints supporters, many of whom went to all matches home and away, were members of the corporate schemes, sponsored the club, etc. Many of those had stopped going because in their opinion Lowe had ruined the club and they refused to put their money into his pocket. Whether they have returned I do not know, as they almost certainly don't post on here. But for every poster like me or Roger who has boycotted until recently and has now returned, there is probably another who has not returned because Lowe has made them lose their love o the club and they have found other things to do. but these people are not part of the vocal minority, as their views are only known to a circle of friends and aquaintances.
Jones91 Posted 14 April, 2009 Posted 14 April, 2009 it would of looked more as me and a few others who got tickets in the kingsland moved into the kingsland/northam corner. I'm guessing others would of done the same as they weren't selling tickets in that corner...

It is all personal choice. The actions of some meant the club was starved of funds, add to that decisions by Lowe LC MW and all the rest of the goons who have had control and that is why we find ourselves where we are now. What happens if the next crew is not to your taste? Another boycott perhaps. I didnt even think to look up to the directors box as it doesnt matter to me that much.i would love to have the power to eject Askham and all the others, i cant and so just get on with supporting the club.Doesnt make me a better fan though. I myself dont gree that there were more than a few hundred who would be so put off by Lowe , just a case of poor football. What was the crowd last season on a bank holoday, i doubt if it was less in fact it was more. If that is the case can we say that the reduced amount is due to fans staying away as Lowe had gone? Of course not but it could be seen as that if you use the same logic
Block 5 Posted 14 April, 2009 Posted 14 April, 2009 There was 4 of us at the front of the Kingsland North who sang constantly through the second half. Got really annoyed when asked to sit down by someone behind me with a minute left to play. You realise your mistake don't you?
alehouseboys Posted 14 April, 2009 Posted 14 April, 2009 7,000 wolves fans Eh? We had that entire end for the play-offs, 4,500ish, they had half of that end (at best), 2000ish more like. Derby's crowds have held up as they hooked in their fans on season tickets, like Norwich did, on relegation - something we didn't do by sticking with Prem prices. Interesting to see how Pride Park fairs next season. Note to any new investors/owners, you MUST entice fans back with cheap ST deals next season regardless of division cos it's the only way to guarantee decent crowds down in these leagues.
Wes Tender Posted 14 April, 2009 Posted 14 April, 2009 Wes you and quite few others turned your back on the club. That was your perogative but I dont see you are any morally higher than the fans who dont go as a steward was rude to them once. Of course not but it could be seen as that if you use the same logic Nick. I was responding to Swannymere's post, which doesn't hold water for the reasons I gave. You have gone off on a tangent. However, the example that you gave in your first sentence, that there is no difference between a fan boycotting on a matter of principle and another staying away because a steward was rude to them once doesn't hold water either. Of course a matter of principle against the people running an organisation is higher moral ground than reacting to the rudeness of a minion. You might not have noticed, but we have effectively got rid of Askham, unless he returns as part of some consortium. Whether many of the stay aways did so because the football was crap, or because they despised Lowe, although he has gone, the football has not been brilliant since he went until yesterday. Now it might be that some have returned because the club are in deep trouble, but that was also well documented that we needed a certain number of bums on seats all season to break even financially and many felt that they did not feel inclined to attend then. As I say though, the increase in attendances since he went has been irrefutable. It is only the reason for the increase that is debateable, with no really clear evidence supporting any particular position, but certainly the return of some who stayed away because of Lowe is a factor.
Saint_clark Posted 14 April, 2009 Posted 14 April, 2009 You realise your mistake don't you? It's usually quite good in the Kingsland North, but even so, you have to admit that being asked to sit down with a minute of injury time left is just stupid.
Saint_clark Posted 14 April, 2009 Posted 14 April, 2009 did one of you have short blonde hair and spent the whole game going mental with renditions of 'red army'? That guy was sat just in front of me, an absolute legend. Even shook his hand at the end, it's because of him that me and my brother kept singing all the way through the second half.

Again fair points made but cut price tickets and bank holidays always attract more fans. You cannot easily base a business on that though.I would expect any person putting in an offer would factor in that the attendancesw would be 12-15k and any more is a bonus.
swannymere Posted 14 April, 2009 Posted 14 April, 2009 Nick. I was responding to Swannymere's post, which in my humble opinion doesn't hold water for the reasons I gave. I thought i was being ironic, honest and truthful;)
