This Saints lark isn't good for the old ticker.

Barnsley, Norwich and Forrest all on 46 points.

Saints on 44 with a worse goal difference.

Barnsley must be cacking themselves.

We win.

Forest get a good result.

Barnsley only have one more home game and it's against Wolves. They also have Reading away.

Mawhinney may have the last laugh whatever we do

because I wrote Malwhinney originally, of which 'mal' is bad in Spanish. Oooohh God, a freaky bad omen there.... oh......

could be our salvation, especially with Cardiff really motoring, none of the top 3 can afford to drop points.

Credit where credit is due - good win - but alas I fear it is too little too late though....

Time will tell I guess...

Guaranteed win that. :s

Good match, we didn't give away a lot of chances ( until the third minute of injury time....). Saeijs sounded immense, he won a lot of headers. Hopefully we can get above Forest before the last match of the season.

Let's hope this is the start of a 4 game winning streak!!

Well done DMG for the 'wonder strike,' KD for the great save at the death, and to all the rest of the team.

Yep, still think it will take another 6 points and at least a draw at Forest though.

Norwich have an East Anglian derby away followed by Reading at home on their next two matches so not exactly easy fixtures for them either. Charlton away on the last day though....

This could prove vital, they are all vying for automatic promotion or play off places as a minimum.

David McGoldrick you ****ing legend! Fair play to the chap. A deserved win. 3 more to go! Yet another great escape is on the cards. COME ON YOU SAINTS! The Spirit of Southampton lives on.

Sadly, too little too late I'm afraid. Had the other results gone our way then this would have meant something. Alas I fear for the remaining games and chances of leap frogging the other teams.

Good to get 3 points, but too little too late I fear. Further compound by the Watford and Forest games

Disagree.

We've halved the gap to Forest. If we better or equal their results between now and win our trip to Nottingham, we will go above them. It's a big if, but we're in with a chance. Especially as we're still within 2 points of Norwich and an awful Barnsley team, who have a tough run in.

Overall a Saints win and a draw and defeat for 2 of our rivals is a good afternoon. We could be 7 points off safety if things had gone differently.

The way I'm looking at is that I'm sort of assuming we have to win at Notts Forest. I'm sort of factoring that in to my equations - so am sort of lookign at the league table with us having Pld 43 and having 47 points and Forest Pld 43 with 46 points. Cheating I know. But then I'm asking - what else do we need happen? What's the least we can do and survive?

I'm torn. I'm almost wanting Forest to be clear of trouble, with nothing to play for, by the time we go there. Too many of our players don't know how to handle the kind of pressure that goes with a final "us or them" game.

Today's Norwich win was a real barsteward.

Firkin ell ... my computer went tits up 10 secs after we scored and I've only just managed to see that we held out ... unfortunately Sheff U and Watford let us down :(

Prolongs the agony another week or so I guess.

Why oh why did we lose against Charlton and not to mention the potentially catastrophic home defeat against Forest earlier this season

Please pretty please can we stay up, we will promise to be better next season (if we are still in existence )

I'm am a total wreck now having spent 20 mins trying to get my computer working again  ... probably no different then to you guys listening to the last few dodgy minutes having to defend 3 corners 8-[

Well, if you're going to accept 3 points at Forest as a given, then we don't need to do a thing - if 2 from Norwich, Barnsley or Forest don't score another point.

See...told you this was going to be easy...:-)

Well well well David McGoldrick saves our bacon yet again and he shows he is the only player in our squad who can score consistently.

Still plenty on here still hate the fella and want him out of the team. Just where would we be then?

Well done David and the rest of the team that was a much needed result. Two more wins and a draw may well be enough!

Come on Saints!

Forest have a pretty good run-in.

I wouldn't be surprised if Forest are actually safe by the time we go there as Norwich and Barnsley have a tricky few games coming up.

Now I've got to miss the match on the 25th and mow the lawn again wearing a 2003 yellow cup final shirt just to make sure we get another home win.

I think the mere fact that we play Forest on the last day means one of us and Forest are likely to drop, but probably only one of us.

One thing we do want to happen is for Burnley to have secured a play-off slot before they come to St. Mary's!

lookin at the run in i think that 2 wins out of the next 3 will do us.

barnsley and norwich both have very nasty remaining matches so 50 points might do the job

I still think we'll get that mean old 10 point deduction if we stay up.
