CityRanger Posted 12 April, 2009 Posted 12 April, 2009 Seconded. Probably a bit late now but a couple of full backs would have been nice at the start of the season to allow this tactical master stroke!
madruss Posted 12 April, 2009 Posted 12 April, 2009 How many years has it been since Skacel did a decent job in that role? He played in midfield in the playoff season and was largely ineffective (how may goals was it, 2? 3?). Yes, he was really good for Hearts in that role, but that was in a league where Sutton, Samaras and the like score goals for fun. That said, he could hardly do a worse job than Surman is at the moment so perhaps there is some merit in swapping them round for tomorrow's game

He has started 1 game in midfield since we beat Wolves 6-0. It was against Norwich last year and was voted MOTM on TSF by something of a landslide. (You'll have to take my word on that). Kind of hard to be good at your job if you don't have a job. 2. He scored 4 goals. Also got 7 assists. That's more than Wotton, Lallana, BWP, Schneiderlin and Smith put together this season. Call me biased or whatever, but maybe, just maybe, it could be worth a try. Or f**k it, we could just stick with the midfield which is blatently hopeless and get relegated with another half dosen pathetic displays like the one on Friday.

Agree, it is madness he has not even been given a go in his favoured position. This is a guy who scored for fun in the SPL and the one season he has played left mid for us he spent most of his time covering for Bale. Has to be worth a try over the current crock of ****e.

So ****ing truth!!!! Don't have to mention the history too long ago. I follow Budesliga, Rudi Skacel was playing well for Hertha Berlin and helped them to achieve a mid-table finish as well as a place in UEFA Cup. I am sure most of Saints fans saw Surman was playing comfortable as left back in the second half against Wolves, we really hope that indicated Skacel can start as left midfield tomorrow.
CityRanger Posted 13 April, 2009 Posted 13 April, 2009 and play who at left back? Exactly! What a waste playing him at full back. But we have no option...
Saint Bones Posted 13 April, 2009 Posted 13 April, 2009 and play who at left back? It's him or Surman. I dont 'think' we have any youth capable for that position
.comsaint Posted 13 April, 2009 Posted 13 April, 2009 Surman LB. Smith wide on the left in front of him. Move Rudi in one - alongside Euell. BWP wide right. DMG & Saga up front to start. Sorted!
thorpie the sinner Posted 13 April, 2009 Posted 13 April, 2009 to be fair, I will be glad to see the back of him and a few of the others!!!!
Ewell Posted 13 April, 2009 Posted 13 April, 2009 The most over rated player we have had on our books for a long time. The sooner the likes of Skacel and one or two other money grabbing mercenaries **** off the better. The adulation he gets from some of the fan base amazes me. He is no more fit to wear the number 7 than Andrei Kanchelskis was. He is totally over rated and under performed where ever he has played for us. Get rid!
sidthesquid Posted 13 April, 2009 Posted 13 April, 2009 They love him because he waves his arms around to gee up the crowd & everyone mistakes that for giving a sh1t. He has spent most of the last two seasons trying to leave, but can't get a decent offer elsewhere because the rest of Planet Football know the truth about him
JustMike Posted 13 April, 2009 Posted 13 April, 2009 Skacel for Hearts..played attacking left midfield, scored a lot and had most assists. Skacel for us under GB..played left midfield, more assists than anyone else!. Skacel is NOT a LB, we need goals = midfield it is then.

He is no more fit to wear the number 7 than Andrei Kanchelskis was. He is totally over rated and under performed where ever he has played for us. Get rid! but..would you still say that if we had played him in his proper position all the time and he had contributed goals and assists? I doubt it. All too often players get stick on here for this or that, when we played AS at left back everyone on here went nuts screaming for him to be moved back to midfield, but as its rudi, everyone just slags him off :smt119
ottery st mary Posted 13 April, 2009 Posted 13 April, 2009 Wotte got to gamble now...Try it..you never know....Nothing else left....Skacel might just surprise us further up the field..Surman to left Back.....Pity about PAINE and SYDENHAM not being available.
aintforever Posted 13 April, 2009 Posted 13 April, 2009 They love him because he waves his arms around to gee up the crowd & everyone mistakes that for giving a sh1t. He has spent most of the last two seasons trying to leave, but can't get a decent offer elsewhere because the rest of Planet Football know the truth about him No doubt he was over-rated but anyone who can play left midfield for Hertha Berlin and get in the Czech Republic squad for the last European Championships as a left midfielder should at least be given a run out in our shower of ****e. Or we could just stick with the same side that got dicked by Charlton.
david in sweden Posted 13 April, 2009 Posted 13 April, 2009 Thanks. Much appreciated. sounds intertesting, but do you think he would be so radical as to experiment now but if he did ..who would play at left back ...Surman ?
trousers Posted 13 April, 2009 Author Posted 13 April, 2009 sounds intertesting, but do you think he would be so radical as to experiment now but if he did ..who would play at left back ...Surman ? We need goals. Why are we worrying about who to put at left back when having someone there all season as left us 2nd from bottom? We need to attack...score goals....play 3-4-3....sorted: ......................Davis...................... .......James........Saeijs........Perry...... ..Lallana...Wotton...Skacel....Surman.. .......McGoldrick....Euell....Saga..........
Wes Tender Posted 13 April, 2009 Posted 13 April, 2009 and play who at left back? Play three CBs and have two wing backs. On the Wolves thread I had suggested Scacel as one and James as the other, but equally that could be Surman if Scacel was to go midfield. So the team would look like this:- ....................................Davies..................................... .............Liptak................Size..............Perry................... James.........McGoldrick......Euell.......Scacel...........Surman.. ...................Saganowski.........B-Wright Phillips.................. Euell to anchor the midfield and go forward to add extra weight to the attack, but also available to fall back and add weight to the centre of defence. McGoldrick to overlap James and Scacel to overlap Surman to give the extra width that we have been lacking, or James and Surman to maraud forward while McGoldrick and Scacel cover behind them.
70's Mike Posted 13 April, 2009 Posted 13 April, 2009 Frankly formation does not matter i want 11 to take responsibilty, play with passion and desire, bust a gut, give it all, die for the shirt the cliches are well known the time for telling the Echo the boysh are up for it have gone ACTIONS SPEAK LOUDER THAN WORDS from now on
O_RLY Posted 13 April, 2009 Posted 13 April, 2009 I'm sure Wotte will read this thread and amend his team accordingly.
Mr X Posted 13 April, 2009 Posted 13 April, 2009 Part of the reason we aren't peforming is that certain players dont want to be here and are only thinking of their move in the summer. Who would you say these players are? Skacel for one, Schneiderlin for another
ALWAYS_SFC Posted 13 April, 2009 Posted 13 April, 2009 Part of the reason we aren't peforming is that certain players dont want to be here and are only thinking of their move in the summer. Mr X Posted 13 April, 2009 Posted 13 April, 2009 Shall we ask them or just speculate like you are? So you think they're all 100% committed to the cause then?
ALWAYS_SFC Posted 13 April, 2009 Posted 13 April, 2009 So you think they're all 100% committed to the cause then? I did not say that, but just trying to second guess how they feel or what their plans are is nothing more than a guess. TBH i don`t expect many of them have any idea where the will be next season under the current situation. Anyway i`m off to SMS...COYR.

True I'm just going by what i see on the pitch which is where all players should be judged and I guess todays game will show which players really want to be at our club and be proud to wear the shirt and who doesn't give a toss so to speak

He is no more fit to wear the number 7 than Andrei Kanchelskis was. He is totally over rated and under performed where ever he has played for us. Get rid! It seems some people don't care who plays for Saints as long as everyone thinks they're sh*t. As soon as a few people think he is good or he doesn't reproduce the form he showed at another club (name a midfielder who has scored 17 goals in the CCC, ever) he must go! We could sign Andriy Shevchenko, and people on here would say we shouldn't play him because he's overrated, overpaid and isn't as good as he was 3 years ago. They love him because he waves his arms around to gee up the crowd & everyone mistakes that for giving a sh1t. He has spent most of the last two seasons trying to leave, but can't get a decent offer elsewhere because the rest of Planet Football know the truth about him 1. That's stupid and you know it. Nobody likes a player just because he waves his arms to gee up the crowd. Infact he hasn't been a crowd favourite for a couple of years now. 2. There isn't a player in this squad who wouldn't leave given a decent offer. Infact there hasn't been a player since MLT who stuck around when a "big" club came calling. Walcott, Bale, Jones, Baird, Beattie, Bridge, SKP. Even Safri p*ssed of to somewhere in Qatar and Best thought he was better off at Coventry. You can't blame Skacel for going to Hertha last season, especially when he got more than a healthy shove from the board. He was f**ked around at the start of this season by Lowe trying to get rid of anyone who had gone through puberty, but instead of sulking got his head down and got back in the side. Strangely people criticise him for this, yet overlook the same thing happening to Euell and Stern John. ANYONE who gets a decent offer from another club in summer will be off. Watch this space.
trousers Posted 13 April, 2009 Author Posted 13 April, 2009 Surprise. Surprise. An article in the match programme today about Skacel and a quote from him saying he prefers to play attacking midfield. Why oh why don;t we play players in their best position? Rocket science?

SaintRobbie Posted 17 April, 2009 Posted 17 April, 2009 (edited) I noticed The Sun (or was it the Mirror?) had Skacel as MOTM as an attacking midfielder! Edited 17 April, 2009 by SaintRobbie
Arizona Posted 17 April, 2009 Posted 17 April, 2009 I noticed The Sun (or was it the Mirror?) had Skacel as MOTM as an attacking midfielder! Well, him and McGoldrick are practically identical. Easy mistake IMO.
