i am taking my 5 year old to game tomorrow for his first taste of sfc, remember my dad doing the same for me at the dell, about 77 anyone remember their first sfc game

Took my 5 year old to his first game last season, West Brom at home, boy was he in for a shock. Sat with his fingers in his ears for most of the game, even enjoyed taking part in the pitch invasion. Still it never put him off, he's been back 3 or 4 games since then.

Against Chelsea in October (I think) 1973. Don't remember the score, shame on me.

My childrens' first game was against Plymouth in November. No goals, freezing cold. What a night. But they were mascots and loved every minute of it. Even more glad we went as we may never get to see Saints again.

Saints vs. Bristol City 1978/9ish. Midweek fixture which was postponed once due to heavy rain. Saints won 5-2. My Dad took me and my mate and we stood at the Milton end, me and my mate in the chocolate box.

I was hooked but my mate became a skate (sad but true)!!!

My first match was Spurs v Saints at White Hart Lane, January 1970. We won 1-0 - Ron Davies (of course) scoring with a bullet header.

So I thought I'd introduce my son to football the same way - Spurs v Saints in 2001. It ended 0-0. We played them off the park. You should have seen the teamsheet - Davies (Kevin), Beattie, Le Tiss, Pahars (who was on the bench I think), Richards, Kachloul, etc.

Unfortunately, my son drew entirely the wrong conclusion. He went away and became an Arsenal supporter.

Early 1960's about 6 or 7 years old v Bournemouth Reserves ,no idea what the score was but do remember i asked to go home at half time!

That was enough though,hooked !

Never failed to get a buzz going to the Dell right up to that last match against the Arsenal.

Sad to say never had the same feeling at St.Marys.

Back about 1984/5 time was my first game.. Saints v Man United .. travelled down from Marlborough on the service bus taking over 3 hours each way and it had snowed heavily the night before. Got to The Dell after nearly getting ran over by Shilton in Bedford place, and helped move snow off the pitch. 81 mins . F***ing freezing and Glenn ****erill hit a screamer past Gary Bailey with the bright orange ball... 1-0 to Saints, and United were 10 points clear at the top of the league prior to the match!

been back well over 250+ times since and now bringing my own kids

Last home game of the 1959/60 season. The promation year from the old 3rd division. I was 4 years old and all I can remember was a lot of noise and blokes who seemed to be 7ft tall all around me.

Lets hope another miracle occurs and I dont end up watching the Saints in the same division that I started in.

Mine was away at West Ham in either 85 or 86, Saints lost 3-0 or 3-1, and Shilton got a hell of a lot of abuse from the hammers fans, having had wife beating allegations levelled against him at the time.

First home match was 87, I went to several in quick succession and can't remember which was the first. It would either of been 1-0 Vs Watford with Danny getting the goal, or 3-0 vs Oxford can't remember the scorer's though.

My Dad took me to see Saints play Brentford. It was the War League South I believe it was called. Must have been after the war, 1946 I think before the leagues were reformed and crossing from the IOW was quite an event. I loved the red and white from then on, but watched Cowes more often: lots of former Saints! We beat Brentford by the way that day.

Saints 2 Tottenham 1 was my first game at The Dell in 1967, I went with 3 school friends who were all Spurs fans and we all stood together in the Milton end - the days before segregation ! Gilzean scored for Spurs in the first half and Ron Davies got 2 in the second half, one bullet header and a penalty I seem to recall. Afterwards, on Southampton railway station platform 2 and desperate for a slash I took a kicking from some Spurs fans who objected to me walking through them in my red-and-white. Can't think why. Anyone else remember that game ?

28th Feb 1948. Saints v Spurs - 6th Round FA Cup. It was Saints first all ticket game.

My uncle took me over from the island and was I remember it as though it were yesterday. Playing for Saints on that day:- Ted Bates, Alf Ramsey, Charlie Wayman etc., all the greats.

We totally dominated the game and lost 1 - 0 to a goal from Bennett about 15 mins from the end. Because of the all ticket ruling we only had just over 28.000 in the Dell!!! Those were the days.
