i am taking my 5 year old to game tomorrow for his first taste of sfc, remember my dad doing the same for me at the dell, about 77 anyone remember their first sfc game

watch out for the noise affecting him, my lad was 5 first time i took him to the dell , 16 years ago, and he loved it all until the crowd really started singing and he was frightened because he had never heard that much noise before

Be prepared for frequent trips to the toilet at inopportune moments, like when we score.

Oh - hang on.......

Seriously, I hope you both enjoy the day :)

Took my boy to his first game against Charlton last week. He loved it and was singing all the songs. Noise didn't bother him. He asked to go again so I'm taking him to Burnley. Hopefully we'll have a team left to take him next season. Hope he enjoys it!!!

Oh I don't know, 'bout 59 at the Dell, opposition was either Bradford City or Accrington Stanley, 2nd Game ? Plymouth Argyle, never forget those green and black shirts.Plus I think they hammered us.

Strangely enough, my first ever game was on Easter Monday - 1977

3-0 up against Cardiff, eventually hanging on for a 3-2 victory

I went with my Grandad, happy memories

1979 and Saints beat City 3-0 (I think). I was only 5, a City fan and Joe Corrigan was my hero.

That's changed now though.

Bugger!

You are a bad father mate.

I feel sorry for your kid. He will be mentally shaken by what he has seen on the pitch. It could effect his mind in the future.

People can be so cruel sometimes

My first game was Saints v Charlton in the League cup in Sept 76 when we drew 1-1 with Derek Hales scoring for Charlton and Pat Earles scoring for Saints.

My Eldest sons 1st Saints game was when he was 5 and it was a pre season game against Bashley in 99. His first Saints game at the Dell was a pre season game at home to Lierse in 99. He loved watching Saints up untill a year or so ago. He has given up going now and has taken up fishing!!!

My youngest sons 1st game was

1966 Aston Villa at the Dell we won 6-2- yup no surprises I was hooked!!

I remember that game. Big Ron scored a screamer from the left hand side with his feet! (One of four if my memory serves me right.)

For me, October 1963. 5 years old. Sat on my dad's shoulders on Archers Rd v Leeds. We lost 4-1 to them. They went up at the end of the season and were in the cup final the following season. It was the start of the Revie era.

To continue the above post that i accidently submitted before completing.

My youngest sons 1st game was a borimg 0-0 draw v Birmingham in 2004, needless to say he never quite got the Saints bug like my eldest son! He now watches AFC Totton regularly and loves it!!!

Think it was v Lincoln or someone in the League Cup? Must have been 96/97. Remember sitting in the Milton End, with a huge yorkie bar.

I ****ing loved the dell :(

reckon my first game was the same time as the original poster, about 1977 with my dad taking me in the Milton, ~5-6 years old, little wooden box to stand on....as others have said..pretty much hooked from then on...my nipper is 2 1/2 and i just hope i get the chance to take him to see saints (either because they won't exist, or because child services deem it an act of cruelty....)

Southampton 2-2 Newcastle. 18th Jan 1997.

We were 2-0 down at half time.

Neil Maddison pulled 1 back.

Le tissier 25 yard screamer in the last minute. Happy Days!

1997 at the Dell, Saints v Derby, Derby won 2-0 but I can remember being 7 and realising how rubbish the ref was, I also asked my dad if we had to swap ends at half time like the team did =p

My 5yo has only seen us lose so far. The four times he's been he has enjoyed the day because I spend in the shop and get him stuff for his room. We make a whole day out of it and he absolutely loves to see everyone in our colours. He sings the songs as best he can. He has even changed the words to a couple of our chants.

What ever you do don't make the result a big deal. Unless of course we actually manage to win the game. I also intend to go to Burnley game just in case. Could be a few youngsters there that day.

May 3rd 1976, Mick Channons testimonial. Can't remember too much of the game, but remember being queued down Hill Lane to get into the Milton!

Have 4 kids, they all started going when they were about 7. All 4 there tomorrow, 15 and 16 year olds on their own with about 8 mates, the youngest 2 with me. COYR!!

West Ham at the Dell, we won 2-1, with Frank Lampard equalising for West Ham between two Saints goals. (Maybe I should remember the two Saints goals better, but I was behind the goal and Lampard's goal was right in front of me.)

May 1991 for me, Wimbledon 1-1, think Fash scored for them and Jimmy Case for us...had a desperate rush for a toilet after the game as the old man who took me told me there were no toilets at the ground and so I held on until the walk back to the car...

The next season I had a season-ticket in the east stand, on those lovely benches...great memories!

August Bank Holiday weekend 1995. A 1-1 draw with Leeds United, sat in the upper level of the west stand. Can't remember the scorers, just that the noise blew me away.

My first ever Saints match was on an Easter Monday. 15th April 1968 away to Arsenal which we won 3-0. I was 4 and, of course, my dad (Saints fan) took me along a friend of his (an Arsenal fan). His friend had a good contact at Highbury and would always get seats up in the stands right on the halfway line. Unfortunately I can't remember who scored.

I also cannot remember my first game at the Dell (we probably lost and I erased it from my memory).
