Smith didn't play too bad today, but i still believe he would have been better down the left, also, Surman is clearly well out of form, i do think he is a good player but why pick a player thats clearly suffering

Posted
I WOULD EVEN PUT HENDERSON and SVENNSON IN CHARGE TIL END OF SEASON...It is not as daft as it seems.....Mr Wotte go home and take Gorre with you...No disrespect we need to regain at least a little respect.

Wotte has been a blot on Saints landscape for years - ever since Rupert decided the total Dutch way was the future.

The only way to get restarted in whatever league Saints end up in is with a clean slate...........get rid of all these passionless wasters masquerading as professional footballers....... do they care about Saints?....NO.......they will play wherever someone will pay them......... that was so poor today , I can safely say that without a clean sheet they will be bottom of whatever league they are in..........so poor its an embarrassment.........

Smith has good ball control skills, though not as good as Dyer, who Rupert decided to loan out. Both squander the last pass. But we would have been better off with Dyer in the team.

Did wotton do anything other than punt it hopefully forward? Where is that ever going to get us?

Criticising Saga is harsh, he had no real service.

Lallana came on, didnt touch it for 10mins then actually got involved and looked alright. Schneiderlin was poor, looks tidy and good for pretty 1-2's but nothing else.

Surman needs to be rested, looks slow and dis-interested. Not happy to see him laughing towards the end of the game...

We probably looked on par or even better than they did after the opening 20mins, but they could afford to stroll round and i got the feeling if they needed to they could have stepped it up a gear or 2 and ripped us apart. Harewood looked useless.

Overall. Relegation looms....

Smith was quite good, as was Lloyd James IMO. Saiejs did ok The rest sucked. Do we practise defending set plays?

You sure about Smith cant remember one pass going to a saints player oh hang on maybe just the one

This is why I know that JP was a big very BIG mistake but it was Wotte and Lowe and of course BIG Kim running the show.....This was not just an overnight plan.....Rupes and Wotte and originally Ces Lok but JP was the mug they put in as the tester....Wotte and Rupes baby this one.

Askham and Wilde allowed all this shiiiite to happen....

I just hope to God Rupert never darkens our doors again.....After he has done his roadshow on the Damage limitation..He still has to face the WH Ireland business and a few other headaches.:D

maybe start judging a player on a game by game basis rather on previous performances and you would have seen the lad have a good game, looking dangerous. Shame he had sod all to cross to really.

Our most dangerous looking player. End of.

I'm worried for next season already. Unless we can have a virtual clean sweep of this playing squad & start afresh also if we get a 10-point penalty(which I expect) then its going to be another horrible season & just staying in Division 1 will be a hard task. I want to believe we've reached Rock bottom & can start the long haul back up, but I'm not convinced we have yet.

I don't rate smith from what i have seen previously, but thought he looked dangerous today, he usually does not attack the full back but he looked better and looked as though they couldn't handle him.

Still got a ****e right foot, don't like this new continental wingers cut in crap

This bunch of players are an absolute disgrace and should be ashamed of themselves. Total lack of effort and couldn't care less attitude stinks. The manager is totally out of his depth in this English league. Do you think that they read comments in this forum?

League 1 next season for sure and League 2 probably the next season.

Posted
Hopefully that will have persuaded the FL to drop any thought of a ten point penalty; we''ll go down without even a whimper, and why flog the horse when it is already dying ?

Don't get your hopes up. Look what they did to Luton!!!!!!!!!!!:axe:

I went beyond despair long ago. Now I just feel numb.

This team is just not good enough and, yes, I do blame Rupert. We had a really promising manager at the end of last season. Anybody who understood football could see that. What does Rupert do? Bring in two paperweights to replace him and calls it a Dutch Revolution! The revolution is now over and we are worse off than ever with no hope of recovery.

Such a dull game after 18 minutes. Maybe Wolves just relaxed, but I never thought they'd score from open play. Good luck to them in the premiership, but I wasn't impressed with them. As for us, well if you concede 4 goals from corners in 3 days then you deserve to be relegated.

It's not over as I assumed we'd lose today anyway. Palace is must win, and that will only happen with some real fight, not the lies we're fed constantly after games about how they fought so hard. We can see the games, there isn't fight. There was 5 minutes fight against Charlton, a bit more against Watford but we still threw it away with stupid errors. The selection and tactics are frankly embarassing. I don't know what some of you are watching, or if you've lowered your standards that much, but there's a few players out there whose lack of quality I can't comprehend for professional football. Ryan Smith got good reviews from some of you against Watford, that was more scary than his performance. Woeful, woeful player, hopelessly predictable, slowest decision maker, no skills, doesn't deliver crosses, and not good enough for Millwall reserves. I'm not convinced he would have been taken by another league 1 club if we hadn't come in for him.

Ratings -

Davis - Not much to do, poor for first goal, nothing could do about the rest and must be gutting for him. 6/10

James - Does his best, not good enough in the air and always left unprotected by a lazy, and out of position midfield. 6/10

Skacel - Still can't comprehend why our best left winger doesn't get one chance in his proper position. Probably our best left back too, but only because we're so short there. He's still a very average left back and didn't do that well. 5/10

Perry - Didn't do well enough in the air today but contributed a fair amount in the rest of the game against bigger and faster players. 5/10

Size - He must wonder what he's signed up for as he's far far better than our other defenders. Not his best game, but still our best defender 6/10

Smith - Not a right winger, not a footballer IMHO. Can't stand him. Wouldn't mind but he's keeping our own young players out. Always, ALWAYS dwells on the ball and loses it. Against Watford any winger with an ounce of sense would have got 6 or 7 decent crosses in in the positions he had, but he dwelled and lost it every time. Exactly the same dross today. Utterly embarassed he's in our team. 3/10

Wotton - Can't seem to keep up. Does reasonable job in a 4-5-1 holding (sometimes) but struggles in 442 to to play there away to Wolves is a harsh test. Outpaced, outmuscled and certainly can't pass. 4/10

Schneiderlin - Nice touches, better passer, but has to actually show he wants it and is willing to fight. I question his attitude a bit, doesn't help much defending set pieces considering his size. Poor. 4/10

Surman - One of the most frustrating players in recent times IMO. It's amazing how far being a pretty boy can get you in football. The odd nice touch or pass and he gets praised by the commentator. But he contributes very little, he doesn't seem to have any fight, easily outmuscled and has about 10% of the ability he seems to think he does. APPALLING corner delivery from our "set piece expert". 4/10

DMG - Felt a bit sorry for him to be honest. No service but he made a few bright runs out wide. More effort than several, but he's shown in recent games he's best in midfield, yet played further forward today. Still sulked too much, didn't mark well, but his attitude has improved from where it was. 5/10

Saga - Again, no service, ended up playing wide. Held the ball up okay, linked play better than most, but didn't look dangerous enough. Regardless, still our best striker by a long way and it's crazy to leave him out. Wouldn't mind seeing a proper Saga/BWP partnership up front. 5/10

Wotte - I thought he'd done okay for a while, but the last 3 games I've lost a lot of faith in him. Not sure I have any left. Poor tactics 3 games running, poor motivation, poor subs and poor selection. Worst of all, we know he'll do it again in remaining games. Smith has to go, Surman needs a wake up call if he's to play and we generally need to find a team. It's too late to change everything round all the time. Yet no doubt he'll say "we did well second half" then start with Euell up front. He'll probably say Smith was world class. In fact, I was going to give him 3/10, but for the Smith comments he made, it's 1/10.

Did you even watch the game?

Your giving Smith 3 on previous performances, which have tainted your view.

He was good today. Get over it

The mental thing is that we're still not out of it!!!!

Norwich are away at Swansea and Forest have Forest have a decent Bristol City at home.

However, we are 2nd bottom in the league, but just as worrying, 2nd bottom in the current form league as well (only Doncaster are below us).

http://www.4thegame.com/statistics/championship/tables/currentform.html

The others may keep losing (or only drawing) but I struggle to see how we can start to overhaul them.

Wotte is close to falling to a point a game with 15 points from 14 games and that is not enough at this stage!!!!!

A player who cannot get into a League 1 team, and has proved on several occasions to be out of his depth in the CCC, had ( for him ) a 'good' game. Sorry, but I was not impressed.

Posted
He's judging wrong because he disagrees?

I've watched Smith very, very closely the last 2 games and he has been truly appalling. He cost us so much possession on Tuesday. We played some good stuff in patches and failed to get a final ball in countless times due to him. Today he was worse. Poor touch, slow slow sloooow decision making, which nearly always results in him getting tackled and missing the chance to cross. Fine to say he'd be better on the left, but he wasn't on the left so we can only judge the game he played.

Had no opinion of him at all before the Charlton game, hadn't seen him enough. But he dwelled too much that game and I thought it might be a one off, but the last 2 matches have just shown what an embarassment he is. I'm stunned that some of our fans are either that blind or their standards have fallen that far. Fantastic if you can find positives, but he isn't one of them. If he plays again against Palace, we are screwed.

It was plain to see today that he had a decent game. thats all i am saying. If someone says Jo Brand is a hottie, they are clearly wrong...

You don't have to apologise, but you are wrong

If Norwich win both games over the festive period and we lose against Palace we will be eight points a drift....with nine games left......with a far inferior goal difference....so potentially we are relegated by Monday afternoon.

For what it's worth, I think we DESERVE to be relegated. There's no fight, no battle, no will-to-win.

And what exactly does Surman have to do to get dropped? He gets worse by the game. If someone daft enough offered even half a million sterling for him I would bite their arm off. Smith & McGoldrick were equally bad.

Happy Easter.

Four games to go but I doubt we will pick up more than 2 or 3 points - if that. So it will be League 1 next season, perhaps starting on -10 points. And if anyone thinks we will walk that League, remember Leeds Utd. With this set-up and this bunch of players we would struggle in the Conference.

I hope:

No more Lowe & Wilde (may they rot for what they did to our club)

No more Portvliet, Wotte, Gore and total Dutch football (what a joke that was!)

No more selling our best players, eg Walcott, Bale, Jones (sorry, I forgot, we have none left).

No more over-hyped and over-paid players like Surman, Lallana, Wootton, Euell and BWP.

No more crap loan signings like Robertson, Pekhart, Gasmi and Pullis.

No more corner kicks that don't clear the first defender.

No more conceding goals just before HT and FT.

No more playing left foot players on the right side and vice versa.

No more spin and bull**** from the club's website.

No more rallying calls from players after another dismal performance.

No more players stealing from handbags or scuffling with fans on drunken nights out.

No more calls from the manager / players for the fans to turn up when the team fails to do so.

No more pundits describing our beloved club as "struggling" Saints.

I think you are being seduced by his 'skill'. I cannot remember any decent delivery. Skill doesnt obtain points. Decent service to Saga might.

My thesaurus is exhausted. I've now run out of words for how clueless our managers have been this season. When you're away from home to the team that's top of the league you are going to come under pressure, and you need a big man up front to hold the ball and relieve pressure. So why was Saga playing instead of Euell? Schneiderlin looks like the most criminal waste of money too. What exactly has he contributed this season? He hasn't scored, he hasn't created any goals, games like today seem to just pass him by. He has been almost as pointless a signing as Pulis. Why is he playing? At least Wotton gets up and down and makes a few tackles. I've noticed that Smith got a few credits today - for a player with supposedly 'world-class' abilities he's incredibly one-footed. That's another fault of Wotte's though - why play him on the right? The biggest positive from today's game is that Wotte now has only four games left in charge of Southampton Football Club. If there are to be new owners, then they need to have a root and branch reform of the coaching team - all of Lowe's appointments since Strachan have been unmitigated failures (except for perhaps Burley). We need a fresh start so badly, regardless of which league it is in.

TBF i didn't see much from anyone else, at all, at least he got some crosses in ?? Who else got any service into the box ?? Wotton 'i must kick this as far as i can ?'

Out of form Surman ??

We had nothing !!

IMO Smith has to delay because he is sooo left footed, not his fault, i bet he would love to play down his natural side, he played well, OK, he doesn't get back but going forward he looked quite good

He looked dangerous. More than can be said for the rest of the team.

If you think that was good, you will really enjoy League 1

I accept that point, and could understand if it was Rudi keeping him out of the left-wing slot. But surely the manager can't get something so simple so wrong ?????

I've said it before, yes we do practice defending set plays...

But we do it against our attacking players, hence the problem.

So why when DMG had a very good game in midfield tuesday do we revert to playing him upfront ??? And drop the guy that holds the ball up ?? Anyone ?? I would have taken Spiderman off at HT and played DMG there

In all fairness noone was moaning when FF was a left footer playing down the right and setting goals up for Beattie week in week out.

I was, thought FF was pretty mediocre and tried to beat the man 15 times, FFS football is a simple game, people always try to overcomlicate.

Plus Beattie scored crap loads cos BO dragged the defences left to right.

FF had pace, skill, and vision, and a target man to aim for. Smith has none of these.

Must be the alzheimer's kicking in.

He put several excellent crosses into the box, but there was NO oNE THERE to attack the ball.

He also took several very good corners.

As opposed to Surman who couldn't even keep the ball in.
