Wolves 3-0 Saints - Post Match Reaction

Must be the alzheimer's kicking in.

He put several excellent crosses into the box, but there was NO oNE THERE to attack the ball.

He also took several very good corners.

As opposed to Surman who couldn't even keep the ball in.

Same as i shout to the sunday league players every week and applies to every level of football.

If you don't fill the box it doesn't matter what you put in there, you must have someone to get on the end of it.

It just get's worse and worse......

2-0 down inside 10 minutes is a ****ing disgrace for a team that are meant to be scrapping for survival.

Just don't know what to suggest anymore. Completely hopeless.....

I feel utterly sick.

So look up, spot the lack of support, and decide NOT to cross the ball. There are other options; run at the defender and draw the late or reckless tackle, take it to the by-line and take a chance on your wrong foot rather than constantly ( predictably ) cutting onto the left foot, even play it back so as not to lose possession. All he did was gift the ball to the Wolves CBs.

If we don't beat Palace I reckon the game after that might be a must-win.

And I am also starting to wonder whether or not the club has been managed efficiently in recent years.

Wake up - It's not news or a surprise - we were poor this morning, we still are and we will be again on Monday, so let's just save the club and execute the team.

I can also remember him beating a player in the first half and trying a pull back to Wotton which was no where near him. In the second half he beat a player, got to the bar line and then did nothing and got tackled.

I suppose football is a game of opinions. I agree he looked OK at times but I would have thought a professional footballer in the second tier of English football would be cpable of looking up and picking someone out with a cross rather than just hit and hope.

Don't get me wrong there are worse players in that team.

He's judging wrong because he disagrees?

I've watched Smith very, very closely the last 2 games and he has been truly appalling. He cost us so much possession on Tuesday. We played some good stuff in patches and failed to get a final ball in countless times due to him. Today he was worse. Poor touch, slow slow sloooow decision making, which nearly always results in him getting tackled and missing the chance to cross. Fine to say he'd be better on the left, but he wasn't on the left so we can only judge the game he played.

Had no opinion of him at all before the Charlton game, hadn't seen him enough. But he dwelled too much that game and I thought it might be a one off, but the last 2 matches have just shown what an embarassment he is. I'm stunned that some of our fans are either that blind or their standards have fallen that far. Fantastic if you can find positives, but he isn't one of them. If he plays again against Palace, we are screwed.

Spot on for me about Smith. Gets the ball, does a step over or two, goes back on the other foot, finally crosses. He may *look* good on that basis, i.e. the ball gets swung over, but today it just seemed to be overhit or aimless. If you're a winger, you should know where the players are you want to find and at least, at that level, put the ball there or there abouts. Too many of his crosses sailed over peoples heads for my money today. You can tell I've just finished reading Terry Paines biography, can't you!

Typical of those lazy Rrseholes, we care, they don't gve a f***! They may not give a toss but I do and I'm up to here with it all.

Why should we drag ourselves down there on Monday to watch this load of horse s****?

I am not a swearing man but their lack of "performance" today really has made my blood boil.

I hope they all sod off in the close season

I WOULD EVEN PUT HENDERSON and SVENNSON IN CHARGE TIL END OF SEASON...It is not as daft as it seems.....Mr Wotte go home and take Gorre with you...No disrespect we need to regain at least a little respect.

Totaly Agree , Show Watte and the rest of the Dutch contingent the door now and at least save a little money.

Glass half empty (or should that be fully empty?) - we were pitiful, clueless, abysmal. A shambles with no fight or spirit. They ought to carry the poor fans who made the journey up there back home on their shoulders as penance (they could do with some training by the look of it).

Glass half full - since the Football League are determined to see us relegated regardless, maybe it's better to slip pathetically away without a fight, rather than fight to safety then have Mawhinney's boys slap the 10 point deduction on us and relegate us anyway? That would just be too heartbreaking.

Everyone involved with getting this club to this lowest of lowe (sic) points should hang their heads in shame. You know who you are.

There may be a brighter future out there, but I suspect it will be a long time coming...

Trouble is who will want to buy the players? Wotton has 2 years to run on his contrct. Will we have the money to pay their contracts up to ensure the clear out required happens?

Seems to be a debate about Smith on here, I for one think he is **** and am very suprised he has stayed on for 2 games. Listened to watford on radio and they were wingeing about his touch and end product. today I agreed, runs at players but then does nothing.

I actually though McGoldrick was playing reasonably well and could have been moved to the wing instead - i know he's not a true winger but he's a better player.

10 points this season please!

My thesaurus is exhausted. I've now run out of words for how clueless our managers have been this season. When you're away from home to the team that's top of the league you are going to come under pressure, and you need a big man up front to hold the ball and relieve pressure. So why was Saga playing instead of Euell? Schneiderlin looks like the most criminal waste of money too. What exactly has he contributed this season? He hasn't scored, he hasn't created any goals, games like today seem to just pass him by. He has been almost as pointless a signing as Pulis. Why is he playing? At least Wotton gets up and down and makes a few tackles. I've noticed that Smith got a few credits today - for a player with supposedly 'world-class' abilities he's incredibly one-footed. That's another fault of Wotte's though - why play him on the right? The biggest positive from today's game is that Wotte now has only four games left in charge of Southampton Football Club. If there are to be new owners, then they need to have a root and branch reform of the coaching team - all of Lowe's appointments since Strachan have been unmitigated failures (except for perhaps Burley). We need a fresh start so badly, regardless of which league it is in.

You've summed it up pretty well, there's only one thing I'd like to add - I think our team is actually better than they showed today. I reckon they perform like they do because of the head coach and his staff. He decides the tactics and formation, he picks the starting 11 and makes the subs. He is the motivator and he sets the tone in training. He has failed miserably on all counts.

I doubt we'll be able to afford much in the way of new players next season (talk of billionaires is pie in the sky, most likely) so it is absolutely essential that we get the right coaching staff in and say goodbye for ever to Mr. Lowe's little experiment (oh, the blindness of arrogance).

I honestly believe we could have gone with this at xmas and definitely half way up the league....Hendersons experience aligned with MS personna..whatever.:).you know what I mean.:)....BUT at least when JP was shown the door...never Wotte as he was the same as JP and definitely his/Rupert strategy anyway.........I really wish someone would come up with the facts about KIM..There in lies a massive mystery that might not even show up in truth in the books:^o

Has anyone else noticed that whereas last season we always seemed to concede in the last 5 mins, this season we've conceded loads in the first 5 mins. Again, it looks like other teams have sussed us on this, and nothing has been done - catch them while they're still half awake. Certainly Charlton last week, but I could swear I've been seeing this month in, month out.

Maybe League 1 is his level ? Maybe that's been the point of this season, build a squad for next year's promotion push ;)

If the fans gave up on the club, the way the players seem to have given up the ghost

in the last couple of games then we really are in trouble.

For the record Sam Voakes is a massive Saints fan, hence no personal celebration after the

goal.

Have to agree with that bit I've highlighted. Someone else said the side didn't look that bad beofre the game started and although this was always going to be a tough game, I didn't expect such a capitulation.

Our squad is not worthy of a promotion push, but I really can't believe it's as bad as some of the other sht I have seen from other teams.

I think the managerial set up this season has a lot to answer for as I think we have seriously underperformed, (although I also accept some of the players need to take a good look at themselves).

Don't worry i agree, i personally do not think he is a particularly good player but from what i saw today he looked one of our better players, he is not going to set the world alight but he swung the ball into the box and ran at the defence.

I have always biggd up saints in my toen but ow i may be seen to be full of ****.My apartment has now en held responsible, we are closeer to being relegated, two people who were given saints shirts put there jacket on half way through the game. I am exhausted of bogging us up n am short on Magic when supporting the boys. I will love them till my dying days but like a parent it doesnt mean i like them right noHEW Nw. HE HOY LETS LOOK FORWARD TO THENEXT GAME COYR

It hacks me off all the spin from the club about turning up to support and etc when clearly the players don't give a f*ck. Someone said earlier how Wotte must be a crap motivator, i have to agree. Even the second half we never showed any real promise.

His pre-match hype up must be, 'well guysh as you know you may not have a club sho jusht enjoy yourshelvesh, ryan, i know you can't play on the right but i have a revalushionary idea'

Davis was a bit vulnerable and panicky today. Surman was better at left back than in midfield, swop with Skacel. The formation at the start was poor. The marking at set pieces set a new style, stand anywhere, hands on hips.

Wotton means well but contributes little, Scneiderlin was a disapointment but he needs us to play 4-4-2.

James did his job but too many hopeless balls into the box. Why oh why don't they play Smith on the left and BWP on the right, McGoldrick, Euell and Saganowski were just picking up scraps.

Just don't get me started on the manager, last saturday was the worst performance I've seen from a manager in fifty years. At Watford and Wolves the selections were bizarre.

He doesn't seem to be aware, standing on the touchline is stupid, he'd get a much better view from the stand.

For me the team selections are obvious.

Davis, James, Saeijs, Perry, Surman, BWP, Euell, Skacel, Holmes/Smith,

Saganowski, McGoldrick.

Skacel could attack and Euell could defend, Holmes is probably good for 45 mins only if fit.

Keep the ball on the deck and attack down the wings. About 50% of all goals are set pieces, put all throws down the line and make ground to win a corner. Saeijs takes all the free kicks in range, and at corners put Euell in to run intereference on Saeijs's marker.

Used to do it years ago, interference picks up the marker and gets between him and Saeijs causing him not to be able to get close.

We don't have a bloody clue.

My ratings FWIW

Davis 5 a little at fault for the first goal, but kept us from being embarrassed otherwise.

James 5 best I've seen him play as RB, but no decent crosses today - most went out of play so gave little decent option in attack

Perry 5 in a defence that concedes 3 for second time in 3 games didn't look to be in command, not always awful, but not good enough

Saeijs 5 not commanding either and lacked the presence of a real big leader at the back

Skacel 5 Unlucky to be subbed rather than Surman, as he actually put a couple of decent crosses in and while not great was not one of the worst players in 1st half

Smith 4 I lost count of the number of times he lost possession needlessly and the commentators were always on about his lack of ability to make the right decision - I totally agree. Took on his full-back a lot, but rarely came to anything.

Wotton 4 the king of the mis-placed pass and being well behind the play. At least he tried to tackle a few times.

Schneiderlin 4 What did he do today? A few one-twos and slightly better passing than Wotton, but nothing to justify the fact we paid money for him.

Surman 3 Have to agree that he's totally off form and a liability at the moment

McGoldrick 3 One shot that went closer to the corner flag than the goal and getting off-side fairly regularly is all I can remember. No threat.

Saga 5.5 tried all match and had possibly our only shot on goal after battling through a difficult situation. No decent service and constantly isolated. Didn't get into the best positions for crosses maybe, but was always chasing and trying - maybe that's why.

subs

BWP 4 why was he on the left and Smith on the right? Did sweet FA of any use

Euell 4 very ineffective, but not given any decent service at all

Lallana Did he do anything, or was it just that I'd glazed over by the time he appeared?

Wotte 2 Not sure why more than a one - feeling generous as we only conceded 3

Posted

I thought Bradley looked lively when he came on, and should have scored if it wasn't for it unluckily hitting their defender on the heel. Mcgoldrick looked good, as I also thought he did at Watford away on Tuesday night. The cross field ball out to Ryan Smith was quality.

I thought this is right

Davis 5-first goal was awful

James 4-couldn't cross and too slow.

Size 5-i dont like to see a saints player cheat

perry 4-too slow now

skacel 4-waste of space

wotton 4-no skill at all, didn't get stuck in.

mcgoaldrick 6-played okay

surman 2-waste of space and dont like him smiling when we were 3 down.

smith 6-best player, like him.

sagga 3-no effort and was rubbish when he gave way pen terrible.

sniderlin 4-worth the money.

I said at the time Nigel Pearson left that I had a sick feeling in the pit of my stomach. The fear I had has been realised. How could anyone be so crass as to dispense with the services of so able a man. Nigel's handling of Leicester has only confirmed my opinion.

A player who cannot get into a League 1 team, and has proved on several occasions to be out of his depth in the CCC, had ( for him ) a 'good' game. Sorry, but I was not impressed.

i must be honest i agree with you, he was turd just like everyone else.

People probably think he was our best player by default as he had the ball at his feet the longest. Never mind the fact that he kept loosing it after a few stepovers or crossing it into no-mans land. I think he has the skills but lacks the mental strength or intelligence to utilise those skills in the right way.

FWIW Paul Wotten seemed genuinly upset on Radio Hants about todays performance and embarked on big style fighting talk about the remaining games.. Good on you Paul !! ...he called the upcoming Palace game as one of the biggest games of his life.... he called on saints fans stop thinking that we already down.... COZ WE AINT !

Posted

Truly awful all over the park. Never really in it they were a better team and better man for man - strange that two locally born players scored the first two goals which may relegate us. I had this down as a no pointer in my predictions but was hoping for one point. Unless results go for us tomorrow and if we lose on Monday I think it is all over even if a miracle is possible mathematically at least. Verging on suicidal.

.

Roger that really p#####d me off, when Surman was smiling .

Im angry tonight with the way we have all those decent people who have on their bank holiday spent time and money getting up there and seeing that.

The players had better understand that the fans are angry and if they think they can go throught the paces they have another thing coming. I have been understanding but there is no excuse at all for the way they went about their job today.

Saga after turning me around from being not impressed into believing I was wrong has now lost me again. He doesnt seem to care and ineffective.Yes he has a run og goals but he has done little in the past few weeks/games.

I can see the fans not being patient with the players monday if they dont show some fight and passion, i know we are nearly down but i will not accept that the players do not spill blood in the next few games.Any of you away fans dont deserve today and you were great again. That old lady who gave £500 to save the saints should be repaid the money by the players who turned out today, she showed more fight desire and passion that the lot of them.

We gifted Wolves their first & second goals and as for the penalty, what penalty.Even the commentary said it was a soft penalty. We made Wolves look good, anyway at least we drew the second half. League One here we come.:-(

The first two goals yeah were completely gifted, some people have blamed kelvin for the first goal but he had to attempt to get through 3 defenders and vokes still got over them !! Terrible, dunno where the marking or the talking was.

It was a slightly soft pen but if i was the ref i would have given it, saga left a dangling leg and the bait was taken.

What really ****ed me off is the 50 yard run Folly made which was completely un tracked. Terrible, absolutely terrible, it was out of the picture but i would love to see who he ran past who decided not to follow him.
