And we know why don't we..? It's because Americans can't read subtitles while they watch, and they can't work out who the villian and victim is unless a typecast US actor/actress plays the role.

God Bless America - cause they need it badly. ;)

Think it's more to do with money though isn't it? They find good foreign films that they think they can reproduce (albeit badly) which will still do alright at the box office.

Think UK would do likewise if they had the same movie infrastructure set up.

Ok I concede...the yanks are a thick bunch aren't they! ;)

They usually cast Brits as baddies though.

Hammer have the rights to remake it and it's going to be diredted by the guy who did Cloverfield. I don't think it will be as good as theoriginal but I also don't think it will be rubbish.

I'd agree with this. The movie studios are there to make money and everything else is subsidiary to that. It's a shame but that's the way it is.

Having said that it would be interesting to see a distributer spending half the budget that a remake would cost on marketing the original and see if that was more cost effective.

I feel sorry for Americans who have been labelled too thick to follow a subtitled film (or a film not based in the US, with US actors) before they get much of a chance.
