Weston Super Saint Posted 12 April, 2009 Share Posted 12 April, 2009 (edited) That text is absolutely c r a p, being a female I know how often I have been requested/invited for a smear since I was 20. Being a bloke (one assumes) how the hell would you know? Who knows. Maybe I asked Mrs WSS Who, incidentally, attended a smear test last week, having only had one 3 years ago. Weston Super Saint Posted 12 April, 2009 Share Posted 12 April, 2009 Oh and to further prove my point - As a result of research that evaluated the optimal frequency for cervical screening, women are now invited for their first test at 25. They're then invited every three years until the age of 49, and every five years from 50 to 64. If it attacked anyone after a clear smear from say just after 25 - they would be screwed. Did you read any of the link? It even says "Cervical screening isn't perfect".

Rattlehead Posted 12 April, 2009 Share Posted 12 April, 2009 Jillstain, what exactly are you arguing here? First you imply, for a 33 year old women that it is every five years, then you say every three years, then suggest that it isn't every three years at all (in the process of, unfairly and quite pathetically in my view, having a pop at Mrs WSS)? Make your f*cking mind up. You clearly haven't got a clue and I can only assume you have been drinking heavily again. Although one would assume the rules may change from time to time and different regions may have different rules in place (potential factors you fail to consider), maybe they don't ask you to go back every three years either because it takes so long or perhaps because of the unbearable stench. Just a thought.

Ponty Posted 13 April, 2009 Share Posted 13 April, 2009 In my opinion Parky only bothered to spout his nasty and pointless opinion because he realised that no one gave a toss that he'd retired. It's all about the "look at me. I can be controversial. Notice me! Notice me! Please! Notice me and give my contribution to society some pseudo validity." Much like some of the posters on this thread. Most people aren't thinking about Jade and the rise of the reality show celebrity. Most people are actually thinking, "Ah nuts, work tomorrow." So, shut the **** up, 'Parky', and get busy retiring.

miserableoldgit Posted 13 April, 2009 Share Posted 13 April, 2009 Jade Goody was an ordinary woman who revelled in her ignorance and who had very few redeeming features and didn`t add anything to our quality of life whatsoever - BUT, she was used and abused by the very people who brought her to our notice - the Media. When she first turned up in BB, the media took great pleasure in celebrating her "stupidity" making her a figure of fun. During CBB that same media turned her into a figure of hate due to her percieved racsism.Since her illness and subsequent death, they have turned her into a Mother Teresa type figure and in last weeks Sunday Papers there were 8 page and even one 12 page tributes to her. Her price for living her life in the spotlight was millions of pounds. Well done to her for playing the system and being able to leave her children looked after, but this whole sorry saga says more about the media that we have and what modern life has become than it does about Jade Goody. jeff leopard Posted 13 April, 2009 Share Posted 13 April, 2009 Jade Goody was an ordinary woman who revelled in her ignorance the only thing i'd disagree with is this point. i'd say that she was comfortable with her level of intelligence (clearly improving yourself through education wasn't a major aim of hers) but it was the media and public that revelled in it. if you can, watch charlie brooker's newswipe episode 2, he's been incredibly level-headed in regard to jade for ages (which surprised me) and identifies the real culprit in the whole sorry story, not big brother but the tragically dumbed down post-diana news media. their coverage has alienated alot of people, and their reaction on forums like this one has alienated and radicalised everyone else. but hats off for the mature way she has been discussed by the majority on this thread. it can be heart-warming to see people exchange views and agree to disagree without resorting to ugliness. :smt052

Wade Garrett Posted 13 April, 2009 Share Posted 13 April, 2009 Parky says this, yet during his time he sucked up to many 'as deserving celebrities' on his chat show. And in his day, that was clearly the case. But now its changing, you don't need the cut-glass bbc accent any more. And Jade is the icon of the ordinary person who became a star for being who she is. Parky, clearly resents this, as a lot of people do, and a part of it is generational. so in a sense, his age is pretty important. hopefully without sounding to cold, for the spectator its been a much more interesting media event than the diana thing, which was just a painfully dry w@nk to seemingly endless and utterly empty grief-porn. A star?? I am not being nasty, but how was she a star. She was famous (not the same thing as being a star) for being famous. She had no talent whatsoever. She couldn`t sing, act, write, invent things, win at sports etc. What did she do to make her "a star"? As for Parky resenting this, you may be right, but he proably resents it because she has not had to work or train hard at her "art".

Parky should look in the mirror, the man is a hypocrite. What did HE do to make him "a star"? This is a stupid argument. I am no great fan of Parkie but chat shows are a staple of TV all over the world and most people find them entertaining TV. News readers only read the news, actors are just play-acting, sports commentators are just telling you what you can already see......it goes on. What is your point? Are you saying that all people that host chat shows all over the world are talentless? Or is it just Parkinson ( who has been doing his show since the 60`s - must have done something that the public liked) that you object to?
Arizona Posted 15 April, 2009 Share Posted 15 April, 2009 That's my point. Posh has no talent, and is famous for being in magazines and newspapers. Much the same as Jade Goody was..... Parky is a bit of a hypocrite. Sorry about the old bit. Posh differs from Goody in that she has 2 understandable reasons to be famous. Firstly, she was part of one of the most successful girl groups of all time. Secondly, she is married to one of the most famous sportsmen on earth. Whilst this may not deserve fame in itself, it is an understandable reason to be famous. Much the same as Coleen Rooney, Cheree Balir or even Princess Diana. Overall, I can tollerate Posh quite comfortably by simply not reading heat magazine. Goody on the other hand managed to get her ugly mug on the front of every media publication going, not to mention the 6 o'clock news and a 2 hour live special covering her funeral. All this with no reason what-so-ever to have any interest in her life.

thesaint sfc Posted 16 April, 2009 Share Posted 16 April, 2009 (edited) Hmm yes, I'm not sure I see it the way Parky does. He talks of a barely educated woman, who grew up in an under privilaged background, and possibly would have stayed there had it not been for Channel 4 and their Big Brother series. He cites that she was all that was paltry and purile in GB. Yet I notice that he doesn't hit out at the broadcasting company. That would be biting the hand that has fed you for so many years. So Channel 4 gets away scot free in his assessment, and Jade Goody is an easy target. Frankly, his statement, perhaps heavily edited, is a result of lazy thinking, or lazy journalism. Yet what Jade Goody was doing was nothing more than taking advantage of an opportunity put in her path, that she was undoubtedly equipped for. Because Channel 4 wanted to put a show out that was paltry and purile. That is the very essence of the Big Brother show. If Jade Goody is to blame for anything, it is that she never looked beyond the bounds of her own programming or social conditioning. Being brought up as she was, her conditioning hemmed her in to be an under-achiever. But even so, she broke out of those bounds, just for a little while. Maybe CH4 are to be congratulated for helping her to do so. Somehow, I don't think so though. I don't blame Jade for this at all. I blame the nitwits that are making some sort of shrine after her. I do blame her for being a hyped up, arrogant, loud mouthed racist. That's what annoys me about the whole thing. Thousands of young people die every day who are a lot more iconic than she was. Because she's a 'celebrity' she gets compared to Princess Diana! I wouldn't want to be a Celebrity these days if you get classed with people like Jade. I'm 100% respectful to her family, and give my full condolences to anyone in her situation. It's a real shame to see such a young person die in such a terrible way. However judging on character she deserves nothing more than the rest of us. Edited 16 April, 2009 by thesaint sfc

jeff leopard Posted 16 April, 2009 Share Posted 16 April, 2009 Well said Parky. Totally agree. Comparing her to Princess Diana is criminal. I've gotta disagree, both were media events which saw an almost hilarious amount of mis-placed empathy and sickening grief one-up-manship which alienated a lot of people. Both were being savaged by the press before they died (or in Jade's case, discovered she was dieing) and both were turned into latter day saints. I'd much rather the British be an emotionally repressed nation than the frankly embarrasing outbursts that greeted Di's and Jade's deaths. Of the two of them, Jade was a more interesting character, but neither were worthy of a fraction of the attention they got.
