derry Posted 5 April, 2009 Posted 5 April, 2009 A proper 4-4-2, leave the bloody diamond, immobile statue holding midfielder and play some football, Every player playing in his correct position, yes I do know James is a midfielder but he's all we've got at right back. --------------------------Davis -----------James ---Saeijs------Perry---Skacel -----------BWP--Schneiderlin--McGoldrick--Holmes --------------------Saganowski--Euell Subs: Forecast, Surman, Liptak, Smith, Paterson, Yes I know McGoldrick in midfield, Well it hasn't worked with the others has it. Desperate times, desperate remedies. High Tempo go for the win and bugger the consequences because we stand to lose this one anyway.
The Fat Controller Posted 5 April, 2009 Posted 5 April, 2009 (edited) I wouldn't have McGoldrick in the team, his work rate is poor ok he scored a goal yesterday that took him about 15 seconds what did he do of note for the other 89minutes 45 seconds? My Team would be this; Davis James, Perry. Saejs, Skacel Smith Surman Schneiderlin, Holmes Euell, Wright- Phillips Yesterday we were vunerable on the right, couldnt cope with bigger physical players, no hold in midfield and clueless Edited 5 April, 2009 by The Fat Controller

Saejs, Skacel Smith Surman Schneiderlin, Holmes Euell, Wright- Phillips That was the first team I looked at but Surman had a mare yesterday, and as it's attack no matter what, I thought bugger it let Schneiderlin hold and everybody else get into the box and get to the byeline.
Saint Charlie Posted 5 April, 2009 Posted 5 April, 2009 McGoldrick was probably our best player behind Davis yesterday!
The Fat Controller Posted 5 April, 2009 Posted 5 April, 2009 are you having a laugh, Davis was superb the rest were pretty dross IMHO. I cannot see why McGoldrick always starts has he some sort of priority to getting picked?
Arizona Posted 5 April, 2009 Posted 5 April, 2009 - - - - - - - Davis - James - Size - Perry - Mills - BWP - Surman - Euell - Holmes - - - - - - - - - Skacel - - - - Saga But knowing Saints, it will be stick to the same old sh*t and hope everything just sorts itself out and Watford don't turn up, like our trip to the Madejski.

Lots of width brings the best out of Schneiderlin's passing skills.
Berkers Posted 5 April, 2009 Posted 5 April, 2009 McGoldrick was probably our best player behind Davis yesterday! Good goal but did nothing else of note. All the application came from the older players - Lallana and McGoldrick didn't look interested. We only started to create when we bought some width into the game - Holmes and Smith should start.
Saint_clark Posted 5 April, 2009 Posted 5 April, 2009 Mills is still out on loan. James in for Thomson, Morgan in for Wotton and Paterson in for Euell.
derry Posted 5 April, 2009 Author Posted 5 April, 2009 - - - - - - - Davis - James - Size - Perry - Mills - BWP - Surman - Euell - Holmes - - - - - - - - - Skacel - - - - Saga But knowing Saints, it will be stick to the same old sh*t and hope everything just sorts itself out and Watford don't turn up, like our trip to the Madejski. derry Posted 5 April, 2009 Author Posted 5 April, 2009 I just have a feeling if they just go for it with enough possible goalscorers and bugger the result they could cause Watford problems. We need a bit of pace and just stop buggering about.
Arizona Posted 5 April, 2009 Posted 5 April, 2009 Mills is at S****horpe and playing every game. Sorry, didn't realise we'd extended his loan. Ok, can't decide whether to have Lallana/Molyneux at SS/LB respectively. Both have been equally poor this season. Probably go with the Molyneux option, even if he has been crap in all his games so far.

Molyneaux hasn't bedded in yet and is a gamble and Lallana needs to be left out to regroup.
southamptonfclegend Posted 5 April, 2009 Posted 5 April, 2009 Mills is at S****horpe and playing every game. he's not playing today?
Arizona Posted 5 April, 2009 Posted 5 April, 2009 You could consider Surman at left back and Schneiderlin in midfield. Molyneaux hasn't bedded in yet and is a gamble and Lallana needs to be left out to regroup. Good idea. In light on recent ideas, I think I will go with: - - - - - - - Davis James - Size - Perry - Surman BWP - Morgan - Euell - Holmes - - - - - - - - - Skacel - - - - Saga
derry Posted 5 April, 2009 Author Posted 5 April, 2009 he's not playing today? Could be because he didn't feature in the earlier rounds, that would be fairer to the player that played.
derry Posted 5 April, 2009 Author Posted 5 April, 2009 Good idea. In light on recent ideas, I think I will go with: - - - - - - - Davis James - Size - Perry - Surman BWP - Morgan - Euell - Holmes - - - - - - - - - Skacel - - - - Saga That's a pretty decent side. A bit hard on McGoldrick with two in two games but you can't please everyone.
AndyNorthernSaints Posted 5 April, 2009 Posted 5 April, 2009 Davis James Size Perry Skacel BWP Schneiderlin Wotton Surman Holmes Saga Otherwise we'll get overrun there. Will work if Holmes and BWP get forward to support. But even if they do play, they'll probably both be on the wrong wing. Easily changed to 442 with surman right and BWP up front. Can you explain the reason for Wotton being in your selection please? i.e what he adds to the team apart from shouting?
Webby Posted 5 April, 2009 Posted 5 April, 2009 Skacel behind Saga? LOL. I don't think so. I'd go 3-5-2 Davis, Perry, Liptak, Size Smith, Euell, Wotton, Surman, Skacel McGoldrick, Saga, Forecast, BWP, Holmes, Lallana, Morgan
derry Posted 5 April, 2009 Author Posted 5 April, 2009 Skacel behind Saga? LOL. I don't think so. I'd go 3-5-2 Davis, Perry, Liptak, Size Smith, Euell, Wotton, Surman, Skacel McGoldrick, Saga, Forecast, BWP, Holmes, Lallana, Morgan It might work except not with Wotton he would be just as mobile if he took a deckchair out and sat in it all afternoon. The holding midfielder has to defend wing to wing to avoid the central defenders being pulled across, Wotton just sits in nomansland. I think unless your three at the back is for all out attack with the rest, Watford will pick us apart anyway if we sit back and try to stifle them. I fear Wotte will stick with the diamond, James at right back and play the other 10 that started yesterday. If he couldn't see to change it yesterday it's unlikely he'll change it on Tuesday.
SaintNeil90 Posted 5 April, 2009 Posted 5 April, 2009 Davis James Saeijs Perry Skacel BWP Sneiderlein Surman Smith Euell Saga
Bailey Posted 5 April, 2009 Posted 5 April, 2009 Although James has been criticised this season, yesterday's game just showed how much he's improved, and how much we miss him when he's out the side! James will no doubt be welcomed back into the side at RB. Also, we lack a bit of bite in the middle with Gillett injured. Wotton tries but ultimately he's not quick enough and fails to have an impact. Although not as hard-working as Gillett, Morgan could prove to be more effective in the middle alongside Drew. Fingers crossed Holmes is fit to return too, as we have missed him big time. He's not afraid to have a go at players and take them on, and we were most dangerous yesterday when we went down the wings and attempted to get balls into the box. If we manage to do that, then Euell and Saga are likely to have a better game as they will have more balls to feed on. BWP looked lively when he came on, and although his goal was deflected, he took it very well. After that performance, I think he deserves the chance to play from the start and really show us what he can do. Saeijs was poor yesterday but he's been first-class apart from that. Hopefully he'll be back to his usual self against Watford, and both he and Perry will need to be in top form if we are to get anything from this game. With all that in mind, I'd go with the following . . . ------------------ Davis ----------------- James ----- Saeijs ----- Perry ----- Skacel BWP --- Schneiderlin --- Surman --- Holmes --------- Saganowski -- Euell ------------- Subs: Forecast, Liptak, Thomson, Wotton, McGoldrick Realistically though, I'd expect McGoldrick to start, and that's fair enough as he was one of our better performers yesterday. Smith is likely to be on the bench too, as is BWP. Wouldn't be surprised to see Wotton continue in the middle of the park as well.
AlfredKo Posted 5 April, 2009 Posted 5 April, 2009 More likely to be: Davis James Size Perry Skacel BWP Wotton Mcgoldrick Surman Saganowski Euell Such a crap midfield and not good looking but this is the best we can use without touching the defence.
AlfredKo Posted 5 April, 2009 Posted 5 April, 2009 If I am allowed to touch the defence, then can be ........ Davis Size Liptak Perry Surman James Wotton Mcgoldrick Skacel Saganowski Euell A much much greater midfield that I am sure we will score more goals but the defence is unproven.
AndyNorthernSaints Posted 5 April, 2009 Posted 5 April, 2009 Because he's the only person that might offer any protection to the back 4. He's crap, but he's our only option in that position, which is a ridiculous position to be in, but that's what we've done to ourselves. He's had games where he'd done a job. Swansea in particular he did well. Just have to hope he does better this time. Sad we're relying on him, but who else? Surman is the worst central midfielder IMO, Lallana doesn't seem interested and has no form at all, Gillett is injured, Euell maybe, but he can't pass or control the ball either. Is there another youth team player that has energy and can vaguely tackle? Basically he's a liability being too slow to offer any protection apart form the odd foul and header, he can't pass and can't run. I watched him closely at Blackpool and he couldn't get near the play. Morgan Scheiderlin might not tackle but i'd rather him as a ball playing holding midfielder anyday. At least he has some skills and can run unlike Mr Hoof.

The trouble with Schneiderlin (appart from being a teenager with the injury record of Darren Anderton) is that he just has no impact on the game. Whilst his passing is pretty good, he never makes a defence splitting pass that leads to a goal. He can't shoot to save his life and tackles like a jellyfish. With a midfield including MS, Surman, Lallana and DMG you just have 3 players who can pass but generally flatter to deceive and one lazy lump who scores just often enough to stay in the team.
egreog Posted 5 April, 2009 Posted 5 April, 2009 Not a prayer of victory........oops that means Saints may win and prolong the agony!!

benjii Posted 5 April, 2009 Posted 5 April, 2009 I would pick: ------------------KD------------------ James---Perry----Saieaiaeijs------Skacel BWP---Schneiderlin----Euell------Surman ----------McG---------Saga------------
Hopkins Posted 5 April, 2009 Posted 5 April, 2009 Can' believe people would prefer Saga and Euell ahead of McGoldrick. Sums up the intelligance of some of our supporters. He's our top goalscorer. The only one who looks like scoring and has played alot better than either of them lately. Euell couldn't striker a match and has the touch of Ian Huntley.
SuperMikey Posted 5 April, 2009 Posted 5 April, 2009 Personally, I don't think we should make huge changes from the side that lost to Charlton. Although we didn't play well, Charlton were really on their game that day and I think we probably could've got a point with that team. I'd go for: ----------Davis-------------- James--Perry--Saeijs--Surman ------Morgan--Wotton------- BWP--------DMG------Holmes ------------Saga------------ Subs: Forecast, Liptak, Euell, Thomson, Smith Skacel and Lallana need to be left out of the side for a bit to actually give them time to realise that they need to give a rats arse about the club if they want to collect their wages at the end of the week and keep their contract.
the saint in winchester Posted 6 April, 2009 Posted 6 April, 2009 Davis Argent, Perry. Saejs, Skacel BWP McGoaltrick Schneiderlin, Smith/Holmes Euell, Saga I saw Sam Argent plays for the reserves last week and was very impressed. He is solid in defence and gets forward on the overlap. He's a proper RB. No more utility players please.
sotonnick Posted 6 April, 2009 Posted 6 April, 2009 i would go with: davis james saeijs perry skacel smith mcgoldrick surman holmes bwp euell forecast liptak saga schneiderlin wotton
Arizona Posted 6 April, 2009 Posted 6 April, 2009 Davis Argent, Perry. If that is the case, I'd be tempted to put James in midfield ahead of Schneiderlin. Saw James in midfield, admittedly in November, for the reserves and was very impressed. Way more effective than Wotton or Morgan.
AndyNorthernSaints Posted 6 April, 2009 Posted 6 April, 2009 Davis, James, Perry, Saejis, Skacel Surman, Euell, Scheiderlin, Holmes Saga, McGoldrick subs Forcast Lancashire BWP Patterson Lallana
Killer Posted 6 April, 2009 Posted 6 April, 2009 Davis James Perry Saejis Skacel Scheiderlin Surman Holmes McGoldrick Saga Euell Obviously McGoldrick will just drift in as he does but at least this allows James space to get up and down and get in his sometimes excellent crosses. McGoldrick shouldn't play in the middle if the other players immobile like wooten or Morgan.
SFC Forever Posted 6 April, 2009 Posted 6 April, 2009 Bringinging in Argent would enable us to play James in midfield. With only wins going to be any help why don't we just go for broke. A 1-0 defeat won't hurt any less than 5-2 because it will mean no points
Benj540 Posted 6 April, 2009 Posted 6 April, 2009 --------------------Davis ---------Saeijs------Perry------Liptak James-------------------------------Surman -------------Wotton----James-------------- -------------------Skacel------------------ ---------Euell-------------Saganowski Subs: McGoldrick, Forecast, Wright-Phillips, Lallana, Smith Since when did we get a second James?
SaintsAddict Posted 6 April, 2009 Posted 6 April, 2009 Go back to 4-3-3 ---------Davis--------- James-Perry-Seijs-Skacel -------Schneiderlin----- ---Euell-----Surman---- Saga---------------McG --------BWP---------- Pack the midfield and then try to get the 3 strikers in behind, especially BWP. Get them to rotate round helping out in defence in shifts. Play on the ground into the channels and flood the box when we have the ball. Easy peasy!

SaintsAddict Posted 6 April, 2009 Posted 6 April, 2009 BWP as the lone striker. Has it really come to this... Worked well at Preston away, we need everyone else in defence and he is a threat with his pace.
Smirking_Saint Posted 6 April, 2009 Posted 6 April, 2009 What is said in another thread. Davis James Size Perry Skacel BWP DMG Surman Holmes* (*only if fit, or else R Smith) Euell Saga Play it simple, use the wings and get the ball in the box.
1976_Child Posted 6 April, 2009 Posted 6 April, 2009 Yes, I agree with the general premise of this thread. We do need a team for Watford.
these things take time Posted 6 April, 2009 Posted 6 April, 2009 Davis/Jake Thomson James - Saeijs - Perry - Surman BWP - Euell - Schneiderlin - Holmes McGoldrick - Saga Subs: Forcast, Liptak, Lallana, Paterson, Argent/Hatch (incase midfield doesn't work, can put James in the holding role and one of these 2 at rb)
John D Posted 7 April, 2009 Posted 7 April, 2009 I would pick: ------------------KD------------------ James---Perry----Saieaiaeijs------Skacel BWP---Schneiderlin----Euell------Surman ----------McG---------Saga------------ I'd go with this team too.

Cheers! It actually looks reasonaly strong IMO. Certainly don't think that 11, in that formation (ie, proper wide players), would have spent much time in the bottom 3 this season.
labibs Posted 7 April, 2009 Posted 7 April, 2009 I would pick: ------------------KD------------------ James---Perry----Saieaiaeijs------Skacel BWP---Schneiderlin----Euell------Surman ----------McG---------Saga------------ That sounds good to me. benjii Posted 7 April, 2009 Posted 7 April, 2009 That sounds good to me. With Smith, Holmes, Paterson, Forecast and Liptak on the bench Great minds think alike. Quiet day at the office mate? Loving the Chelts photos.
