Verbal Kint Posted 20 April, 2009 Posted 20 April, 2009 (edited) If Wotte keeps us up it would be madness to get rid of him. This is Saints though so nothing would surprise me. He came as a partnership with JP. A specific point was made when they were appointed was that they were going to work TOGETHER as a TEAM. That team failed. He should have been sacked when JP was and he should go in the summer. Personal choice would be Dowie (if we could get him in league 1). Failing that we would be daft not to have a good look at Tisdale and see if he would join us. Edited 20 April, 2009 by Verbal Kint

NickG Posted 20 April, 2009 Posted 20 April, 2009 Having just read up on Tisdale's record as a manager it appears pretty faultless! Much depends on the new owners approach to rebuilding
NickG Posted 20 April, 2009 Posted 20 April, 2009 pick one from here; http://www.skysports.com/story/0,19528,11726_4214437,00.html
Legod Third Coming Posted 20 April, 2009 Posted 20 April, 2009 Dowie - he has failed in every job he has been in.................. Er, apart from when he took over Palace in 17th place and got them promoted to the Premiership... He was then given 15 games at Charlton (at the end of which they were still in the Premiership) And was then fired by QPR when they were what 7th? Since when QPR have had 37 managers - most fired for refusing to allow Briatori to pick the team, or ****ging his missus (allgedly)

SFC Forever Posted 20 April, 2009 Posted 20 April, 2009 Alan Pardew could be an interesting call. Though our ability to afford his wages would be a possible problem. Having said that I feel he would at least stick around for a while. Donny and Bournemouth have 2 men mentioned on here and of the two I would happily accept O'Driscoll I also like Tisdale and think he would be a good choice. How far we have fallen when we seem quite happy to discuss the prospect of having a manger with his qualifications. It makes one realise that we now have a very long way to go before we can strut our stuff in the upper echelons of English league football. Maybe we will be able to turn our ground into a fortress at last. It has nearly finished us and now we have to tame it. I remember the days when we actually played football as a team and dared the opposition to try to score more goals than us per game. We have a long way to go and I think the next manager has to be strong with a certain amount of tactical nous. Someone who will get us behind the team and him. Someone who we will happily sing about for a few years.
SFC Forever Posted 20 April, 2009 Posted 20 April, 2009 Dowie is also one that I would find acceptable.
krissyboy31 Posted 22 April, 2009 Posted 22 April, 2009 Just thought I bump this thread because Jim Magilton has been sacked by Ipswich despite beating Norwich at the weekend.
OldNick Posted 22 April, 2009 Posted 22 April, 2009 unless we get an injection of funds it will be me or Dubai Phil as the next manager. Im told we are being scouted as managers in the forum game
Papa Shango Posted 22 April, 2009 Posted 22 April, 2009 Dowie has been living off that half a good season at Palace for years now.
Papa Shango Posted 22 April, 2009 Posted 22 April, 2009 You're not including his time at Oldham which was very successful as well as at Coventry where, acroos the 40 odd games he was in charge, his record was playoff standard. No it wasn't at all.
Foxstone Posted 22 April, 2009 Posted 22 April, 2009 Dowie will be at least 3 times better off financially being a backroom assistant at the Toon plus he always said that he wanted to "live up north" so why on earth would he come here.. Similarly Ince would want a wage much greater than we could afford to pay and the first sign of a Prem or even a higher CCC job he would be offski... Lets modify our sights to our situation shall we ? We will be looking a fair way down the list of "wines and spirits" when it comes to a managerial name - And Magilton might be our best option.
saints_is_the_south Posted 22 April, 2009 Posted 22 April, 2009 Can we have a poll on this mods? (realistic) Names mentioned so far on this thread & others include... Aidy Boothroyd (unemployed) Paul Ince (unemployed) Jim Magilton (unemployed) Paul Tisdale (Currently at Exeter City) Ian Dowie (Currently at Newcastle United as Asst Manager) Sean O'Driscoll (Currently at Doncaster Rovers) Nigel Adkins (Currently at S****horpe United) Ronnie Moore (Currently at Tranmere Rovers)

Verbal Kint Posted 22 April, 2009 Posted 22 April, 2009 No it wasn't at all. Record at Coventry: Played 49. 20 wins and 8 draws. Including a few cup games of course but i would say that was a pretty good record, no? At Oldham he took them to the playoffs.
Papa Shango Posted 22 April, 2009 Posted 22 April, 2009 I quite like the look of Mark Robins and Dave Penny at Rotherham and Darlington. Both done good jobs despite point deductions and terrible finacial position. Tisdale wouldn't be a bad choice either. I'd rather have an up and coming manager than someone chosen just because they were an ex player.
Badger Posted 22 April, 2009 Posted 22 April, 2009 Can we have a poll on this mods? (realistic) Names mentioned so far on this thread & others include... Lets leave that until the end of the season shall we ? Too much to occupy our minds with the question of the clubs ownership/existance.
Foxstone Posted 22 April, 2009 Posted 22 April, 2009 Please lets have no more experiments or "up and coming promising" managers.... As much experience that we can afford would be the order of the day IMO..
sidthesquid Posted 22 April, 2009 Posted 22 April, 2009 What about Paul Tisdale? Ex Saint and doing well with Exeter. Him, I agree, or O'Driscoll - two on the up

SaintRobbie Posted 23 April, 2009 Author Posted 23 April, 2009 KEANO to Ipswich... bugga. One decent motivator off the list.
Travelling Saint Posted 23 April, 2009 Posted 23 April, 2009 I spoke to Alan Pardew in the pub on Sat and he said he would be interested. I was fairly drunk so he could have just been humouring me.
OldNick Posted 23 April, 2009 Posted 23 April, 2009 I spoke to Alan Pardew in the pub on Sat and he said he would be interested. I was fairly drunk so he could have just been humouring me.are you sure it wasn't Alan Partridge?
Travelling Saint Posted 23 April, 2009 Posted 23 April, 2009 are you sure it wasn't Alan Partridge? Definitely Pardew, he was there with two agents. Rodney Marsh was in there earlier watching the cup semi-final as well.
SaintRobbie Posted 24 April, 2009 Author Posted 24 April, 2009 Jim Mig! Saviour! Yep has to join the list!
SaintRobbie Posted 24 April, 2009 Author Posted 24 April, 2009 Is Paul Ince going to QPR? I havent seen anything.

Feel free to add any other contenders.
charliemiller Posted 3 May, 2009 Posted 3 May, 2009 go on mods, close season sport! Can we add peter reid and steve cotterill to the poll
NickG Posted 3 May, 2009 Posted 3 May, 2009 suppose Wotte ought to be there?! lose the lowest couple each day and re-vote then appoint the winner!
Supersubpuckett Posted 3 May, 2009 Posted 3 May, 2009 Jimbo for me too - plenty of decent experience and an ex-Saint. We should be through giving inexperienced managers a chance - has never worked. If you keep doing the same thing why expect a different result? ..... Grey, Sturrock, Wigley, the dutch guy, the other dutch guy
Mole Posted 3 May, 2009 Posted 3 May, 2009 Mods - can we have a poll now please? Feel free to add any other contenders. Please include Chris Marsden in the poll.
saintsforlife7 Posted 3 May, 2009 Posted 3 May, 2009 Boothroyd for me, has done it before, and with good directors behind him and a strong nucleus we could be back up this time next year
SaintRobbie Posted 4 May, 2009 Author Posted 4 May, 2009 (edited) Methinks the mods may be waiting to hear afew more names and waiting to hear Wotte is sacked first. Come on... lets have a poll... as it says... its good sport! Put shed loads of names in the pot. It means nothing really. Edited 4 May, 2009 by SaintRobbie
OldNick Posted 4 May, 2009 Posted 4 May, 2009 Steve Cotterill anyone ? he has worked with MLT on Sky as well.
SaintRobbie Posted 4 May, 2009 Author Posted 4 May, 2009 he has worked with MLT on Sky as well. Good point.
