SaintRobbie Posted 18 April, 2009 Author Posted 18 April, 2009 So you had no problem with Pearson leaving as he was Crouch's man. A lot of what you say is conjecture I would have thought but he seems to be doing a reasonable job to me. With regard to his comments on Fans I would have that a fairly large number of other fans would be in agreement with him I had a problem with NP leaving as he was good and had potential. Not because he was Crouch's (right) choice. Wotte isnt good and has no potential. I think too many fans want him to go and a better man in frankly. One of the biggest reasons really for not keeping him is that all it would do is divide the fans again - some supporting him, most not IMHO. So we'll have disunity all over again regardless...god it'll be like Alps and GB or Dalek and Hoddle all over again! Indeed, the very reason we're having this conversation illustrates that many fans have no confidence in him, some do I admit (only a few though) but I can't help but see him as a potential cause of disunity at a time when a new owner should be seizing the opportunity to bring in a better man as his first priority and uniting the club. Wotte probably knows the writing is on the wall anyway if we're being honest. No, Wotte simply has to go. Keeping us up alone is not a good enough reason for him to stay IMHO, unlike NP who had potential and has proven it at Leicester. This sounds a bit strange from the man who has consistently posted for CONSISTENT MANAGEMENT. But that is something for a next man as I posted at the start of the thread - we need a young, proven hungry MANAGER who is likely to stay for 6 years minimum with whom we can unite behind. Trouble with Wotte? Too divisive, linked to the old failed, losers and simply not very good. Wotte is a dead man walking IMHO. So if I am right, who would you take instead?
Wildgoose Posted 18 April, 2009 Posted 18 April, 2009 George Burley took Ipswich to the Premiership It does not mean managers who have had a team promoted will always do so Wotte seems OK to me why change? Agreed, but I think any new owners will appoint their own man, and if we have to change then I think someone like Tilson would do a great job.......

SaintRobbie Posted 18 April, 2009 Author Posted 18 April, 2009 If Wotte keeps us up it would be madness to get rid of him. This is Saints though so nothing would surprise me. Well I think it would be madness to keep him (with brass knobs on! ). So I refer you back to the point I made earlier about his continued appointment, if nothing else, he creates disunity and division. He has to go. So back to the thread... who would you prefer instead Nick?

It would hwve to be someone inspirationalnot Merrington and Armstrong, id prefer Armstrong and Miller.

It would hwve to be someone inspirationalnot Merrington and Armstrong, id prefer Armstrong and Miller. I agree with that to be honest. Boothroyd or Ince for me (or has he gone to QPR and I missed it!?) Obviously many on here agree with your sentiment re inspirational manager - I do. To be honest I think if you listed every out of work manager who had league experience I'd take almost all of them over Wotte mind. Dont be so disillusioned! Phoenix is rising from the flames mate !
SaintRobbie Posted 18 April, 2009 Author Posted 18 April, 2009 Guus Hiddink. LOL! Well I suppose the team do understand double dutch now...!
OldNick Posted 18 April, 2009 Posted 18 April, 2009 Dont be so disillusioned! Phoenix is rising from the flames mate ! Not that dump of a pub in Romsey reopening again!!
SaintRobbie Posted 18 April, 2009 Author Posted 18 April, 2009 Not that dump of a pub in Romsey reopening again!! Yeah GB and JP are doing it as a joint venture I hear... and may bring in Paul Gasgoine and Tony Adams to help manage it.
SaintRobbie Posted 18 April, 2009 Author Posted 18 April, 2009 If he keeps us up it would be be just as ludicrous as getting rid of NP as it would be him. Oh dear he's not going to keep us up is he? 2-0 To the Owls... Oh dear. Forest win. So.... Who do we want now that Wotte has ****ed up another game?
ALWAYS_SFC Posted 18 April, 2009 Posted 18 April, 2009 Oh dear he's not going to keep us up is he? 2-0 To the Owls... Oh dear. Forest win. So.... Who do we want now that Wotte has ****ed up another game? Might as well get rid of Twotte and give Gorre a go..
Bakovnetski Posted 18 April, 2009 Posted 18 April, 2009 Might as well get rid of Twotte and give Gorre a go.. You mean Al Gorre? Didn't he write "The Undeniable Truth" or something? The truth is the coaches are crap and the players are largely crap.
SaintRobbie Posted 18 April, 2009 Author Posted 18 April, 2009 Might as well get rid of Twotte and give Gorre a go.. I'd like MLT to do it for the last couple of games - so we play for pride and pack out the stadium to show the world and our new owners that we will still support this club.
Atticus Finch of Maycomb Posted 18 April, 2009 Posted 18 April, 2009 I think that Tommy Widderington would be a good choice to be our new manager if we get relegated before next season. What do other people think?
SaintRobbie Posted 19 April, 2009 Author Posted 19 April, 2009 Chris Marsden. I dunno about that... but would put him in charge for the last 2 games of this season to see what happened and allow us play and support with pride. I think he may be a good choice to remove Wotte with NOW given some of the descriptions given of the scene in the dressing room at Hillsborough before the match. Better in some ways than MLT (who I desperately would like to see stay a legend rather than a manager!) Wotte is inspiring failure, like his master before him.
Andy_Porter Posted 19 April, 2009 Posted 19 April, 2009 Jim Magilton is bound to get sacked in the summer, would be a good choice if we could convince him to drop to League one.
70's Mike Posted 19 April, 2009 Posted 19 April, 2009 For me the issue of JP/Wotte was there complete lack of knowledge on the CCC. Who knew them, how could they ever get decent loanees and keep them? From day one they have both been out of their depth, i forgot we beat Birmingham in a mickey mouse cup game. Wotte's onlt redeeming factor is he is better than JP and if he had been in charge all season may have kept us up, although imo he was always working closely with JP. hE JUST CAUGHT on quicker that pretty passing and lightweight boys were not the way to win in the CCC. The other point is that Wolves have got promoted with a very young squad but a good spine , just shows it is always about identifying good players in the lower leagues something JP/Wotte could not do.
Spudsaint Posted 19 April, 2009 Posted 19 April, 2009 Nick Holmes & Tommy Widdrington. Franny Benali. Or Jim Magilton, or Micky Adams. For me its got to be someone with a connection to the club.
SaintRobbie Posted 19 April, 2009 Author Posted 19 April, 2009 NineteenCanteen and Rupert Lowe. Why not, Lowe almost took over the role of manager once before. Absolutely legit.
grammy Posted 19 April, 2009 Posted 19 April, 2009 Nick Holmes. Done a fantastic job at Salisbury ( even more skint than we are!)
captain sensible Posted 19 April, 2009 Posted 19 April, 2009 Mick Channon....Has to be! Having been seen around St Marys lately, I reckon he's had enough of this horse racing malarkey, and he's planning to leave young Mick in charge of the stables, and come back to his spiritual home! He'd assemble a team of coaches including Nick Holmes, MLT, Benali and Svensson. Makes perfect sense!
captainchris Posted 19 April, 2009 Posted 19 April, 2009 Iain Dowie Dowie - he has failed in every job he has been in..................
CB Fry Posted 20 April, 2009 Posted 20 April, 2009 Nick Holmes & Tommy Widdrington. Franny Benali. Or Jim Magilton, or Micky Adams. For me its got to be someone with a connection to the club. For me its got to be someone with absolutely no connection to the club at all. This idea that only "saints people" need be considered is just garbage. Lawrie Mac and Strachan had no connection to the club whatsoever. Look at the top ten in the Premier League, look at the top ten in the CCC, where are all these managers with "connections" with their clubs? Just the best man for the job, please. Providing we have a clean sweep of finanaces and are reasonably healthy, someone like Lawrie Sanchez would get my vote, Dowie too (yes, I know but at least he is an active manager, not just some celebrity Saints person), Ian Holloway as we'd be in L1 would be fine too, Mark Robins would be a good shout. I still think managers like Mike Newell and Martin Allen have got something to prove as well. But absolultely no "Saints celebrities", thanks.
lee_saint Posted 20 April, 2009 Posted 20 April, 2009 I don't want Adams, over the last few years he has failed big time. I think we need to look at young managers in League One or Two, give them a chance.
John B Posted 20 April, 2009 Posted 20 April, 2009 For me its got to be someone with absolutely no connection to the club at all. Yes I agree with your sentiments it is very difficult to chose the right manager I would have thought. If the team starts losing they are under so much pressure
Frank's cousin Posted 20 April, 2009 Posted 20 April, 2009 OK ... even I didn't want to start this one until the end of the season but after yesterday's debacle I think we all know that Wotte is unlikely to remain in his position next season regardless of the outcome. Assuming the worst case - starting in League 1 with minus 10 points - who would we see as the best choice of manager for the new owners. The selection of the position of manager will be the most critical one the new owner(s) will need to make - and is worth investing in for success. Ultimately it is the manager who will make our team competitive again. I say MANAGER as that would be my preference - no coach, just a good old Manager! I also say WE NEED SOMEONE FOR THE LONG TERM. Whoever we bring in MUST be selected with a 6 year mandate. We've proved chopping and changing doesnt work. My choice? Paul Ince on a long contract. Hungry, knows the leagues, young enough to stay and rebuild this club with entertaining football. Good enough to motivate what we have (if necessary) to at least remain in League 1 this coming season. AND a man who will attract men to play for us. Who would you like to replace Wotte and why? Ince has the qualities, but has already shown he will jump to a bigger club after a smidgeon of success - for me it would be someone more like Dowie, simply because of his connection but morer importantly Experience - I certainly dont wnat Franny or MLT as some suggested they might have the enthusiasm and love for the club, but I'd hate to see their reps suffer wif unsuccessful. Sadly who we get will depend on what is being offered by the new owner....assuming we get one.
krissyboy31 Posted 20 April, 2009 Posted 20 April, 2009 Nigel Adkins at Scu nthope or Ronnie Moore at Tranmere would be good choices IMO. Both know the Division and have had success at that level.
LostBoys Posted 20 April, 2009 Posted 20 April, 2009 I would rather we did this at the end of the season. We should know around that time who the new owners are and how much money we have for players to rebuild the squad - and who of the current bunch wants to stay and if we want them to stay.
SaintRichmond Posted 20 April, 2009 Posted 20 April, 2009 Nigel Adkins at Scu nthope or Ronnie Moore at Tranmere would be good choices IMO. Both know the Division and have had success at that level. Why would either of them want to come down to our level ??? I wish people would start to realise ... we are no longer a BIG Club .... just a very poor Division 1 one Reality Bites

I wish people would start to realise ... we are no longer a BIG Club .... just a very poor Division 1 one Reality Bites Neither of them would if they went up via the playoffs but I reckon both would jump at the chance if they don't. And yes, at League 1 level, we ARE a MASSIVE club.
(not THE) Kevin Moore Posted 20 April, 2009 Posted 20 April, 2009 Dowie - he has failed in every job he has been in.................. define 'failed' please?
Iowsaintsfan Posted 20 April, 2009 Posted 20 April, 2009 Completely different to everyone suggestions so far, how about Gus Poyet he aint doing anything atm and he was the force behind Leeds before he left to go to Spurs, give it to him full time and see what he can do?
SaintRobbie Posted 20 April, 2009 Author Posted 20 April, 2009 Completely different to everyone suggestions so far, how about Gus Poyet he aint doing anything atm and he was the force behind Leeds before he left to go to Spurs, give it to him full time and see what he can do? Good point. Definately the driving force of Wise's success. I'd say GP was a great call.
saints_is_the_south Posted 20 April, 2009 Posted 20 April, 2009 Aidy Boothroyd would be my man with Paul Ince 2nd choice. Failing those 2 i'd go for Ian Holloway.
Victor Posted 20 April, 2009 Posted 20 April, 2009 Don't know if he's been mentioned so far but I would give Gary Speed a chance. He would also play a few games and actually score some goals. Playing in midfield he could make one of the other younger midfielders captain - Gillett, say - who would learn so much from him. Our second Alan Ball.
SaintRichmond Posted 20 April, 2009 Posted 20 April, 2009 If Wotte keeps us up it would be madness to get rid of him. This is Saints though so nothing would surprise me. Pity Lowe didn't think of that about Pearson ..... all he saw was someone HE had not appointed

The Saints job would be the biggest jobs that either Nigel Adkins or Ronnie Moore could ever get, and both of them would rip your arm off for it, even if we were deducted twenty points. They'd take the job for free.

You need to get over the fact that we have no divine right to be in the prem - we are not a big club FACT.
Window Cleaner Posted 20 April, 2009 Posted 20 April, 2009 we are not a big club FACT. Correct, a big club could find a few quid to get them out of hock at the bank.
CB Fry Posted 20 April, 2009 Posted 20 April, 2009 (edited) The only reason the SFC job is a big one is because we are in a massive hole right now. You need to get over the fact that we have no divine right to be in the prem - we are not a big club FACT. Excuse me while I **** myself. Where exactly do I make any claim that we have "any divine right to be in the Prem"? I am one of the last contributors to this forum to even think such a thing, and anyone that ever reads what I post would know that. But the fact of the matter is we are a bigger club than the likes of Moore or Adkins will ever manage and them and managers like them would take the job on, just like Simon Davey dropped a league to take Leeds on. "Manager of Southampton" is a bigger job to have on the CV than, say "manager of Peterborough", regardless of them being in CCC next season. We'll have plenty of applicants. We'll be a big club in League one, sunshine. Relegation won't turn us into Hereford, just like it didn't turn Man City, Forest, SWFC and Leeds into Hereford either. Edited 20 April, 2009 by CB Fry

Northampton Saint Posted 20 April, 2009 Posted 20 April, 2009 That guy at northampton has experience of league 1 and is apparently a decent coach. and would we really want him back ha ha Last time he was replaced by WGS - now that would be a really good appointment but sadly no chance!
