It has to be Ince . He did well at mk dons but went to the prem to early in his career ,a up and coming manager who would surely come if given the chance .

I think he would.

What I want and what we could afford are a different kettle of fish.

Roy keane would sort out a lot of our problems but wouldn't do it without money. If it was a no money job I'd give Nick Holmes a go.

Fair one - but we dont know what we may be about to afford and if some rumours are correct we could end up one of the wealthier teams in the football league! :)

Thing is, look at our recent unsuccessful managers - Gray, Wigley, Sturrock, JP, Wotte...all 'nice' guys who couldn't get the job done. Maybe a c*nt is what we need?

I would have thought the priority would be some decent players.

Ince took over a team assembled by Martin Allen,a fact conveniently overlooked by the 'Guv'nor ' when writing his own CV.

Glenn hoddle. He has the contacts and led Swindon out of the old third division.

Wrong, it was the old Second Division (CCC).And one of the key features of the team was having Hoddle the player available to Hoddle the manager.

I think we'd have a decent selection to chose from.

All the names on here, except Hoddle and Keegan are realistic if we are in reasonable financial shape.

Holloway, Lawrie Sanchez, Tisdale, Cotterill, Adams, Boothroyd, Pardew. Any of them, and I think most of them would give us a go if offered.

Wotte will be long gone.

What about Paul Tisdale?

Ex Saint and doing well with Exeter.

Agreed..Highly thought of and a good coach who has a good grounding...

The way Exeter are going we will be playing them next season.;)

The league we're going to be in????

The odds of that being league 1 seem very slim. It's either a great escape or more likely, whatever league you start in as a new club. Just can't see enough investment if we go down. I think most are aware of this, and the pressure is obviously far too much for the players who looked to nervous to kick the ball half the game.

Any talk of a new manager is pointless until we have some idea what the situation will be. Might be CCC (and if that miracle happens then Wotte should keep his job), might be league 1, but with points deductions it'll be a relegation fight, might be god knows what regional division, in which case I'd hope it would be a former player in charge to get things going.

In any of those situations, my first choice will remain MLT, maybe with Holmes as assistant.

I agree 100% with your choices there. We have watched so many people take from our club in the last 5-6 years and what we really need now is some people with a genuine affinity for our club.

Yes, there will always be a risk in appointing "rookies", but we have had NOTHING to cheer about since relegation; we've sold anyone half decent, we've spunked all of our money on some GB specials and have been left with a spineless team, and there is just nothing of a feel-good factor left.

It isn't really about tactics any more IMHO as the players aren't capable of carrying out instructions anyway. So let's get in two of our most celebrated players and, if nothing else, let them bring some joy into our lives and a sense of "Thank f*** we've done something right for a change!"

Whilst its a bit of fun to speculatie on who might be the Saints' next manager, we are more concerned at the moment with the bigger questions: will the club even exist next year? And if it does survive with new owners, what sort of a squad will they be able to afford on Div 1 gates?

That's down to us and WE need to show potential/actual new owners how much we care buy buying sensibly priced season tickets in their thousands!

That's why we have different threads.

I couldn't give a monkey's about 'affinity' - credibility, capability and many other 'ity' words but only Geordies need locals! ;)

Ince is probably the most sensible option; an ambitious and yet, to some extent, realistic appointment. Our assessment that he went to the prem too early would have to be echoed in his own mind if he is to take the step down though, and this may be the stumbling block.

Correct. What affinity did Ferguson have for Utd, or Wenger for Arsenal, or Mourinho with Chelsea, or Moyes with Everton, O'Neill with Villa, or indeed Mccarthy with Wolves, Coppell with Reading, Mcleish with Brum, Dave Jones with Cardiff, Coyle with Burnley, or Mowbray with West Brom, Pulis with Stoke, Brown with Hull, or in the League we'll be in next season what affinity did Pearson have with Leicester, or Di Matteo with MK, or Ferguson with Peterborough?

Their complete lack of affinity has seem to have done them alright.

Is that a long enough list?

I hope we appoint someone with absolutely no affinity to the club whatsoever. Affinity is a mug's game.

Is Chris Marsden still not interested in management?

seriously I don't see any point in looking at any established managers unless they have a very good reason to work for nothing or a miracle happens and someone with very deep pockets rescues us.

I'm not going to bet on the deep pockets scenario.

Prof - read the thread start point. Assumption is minus 10 points in League 1 next season.

Surely you are not suggesting that we will be banished to League 2?

Not for me. I saw alot of Watford and Saracens at Vicarage Rd last year and to be honest it was difficult to tell the difference between the 2. Awful.

Mark Robins for me. Has done wonders with Rotherham from a situation of financial peril and points deductions in League Two. Have heard interviews with the guy, sounds very driven and committed - would welcome him here.

Ince would be my choice, from tomorrow!

Ince would be off as soon as a bigger team came in for him. My choice would be any ex Saint with a point to prove - someone who wouldn't walk away until the job was done. I am fed up of every six months or so having these new manager threads. We were relegated from the Prem for having numerous managers in a short period and we are in danger of doing the same unless we can achieve some stability.

Posted

I'd be pro Ince as he's proved to be a good manager at the level we'll be at next year, good motivator & has the knowledge for this league we so need.

Another one to throw in the mix is Jimmy Gannon at Stockport has the knowledge at lower league level is excellent at bringing the kids through & his teams play football the right way.

Dennis Wise, Roy Keane, Paul Ince - all c*nts. No thanks.

That they may be, but they'd do a bloody good job for us and get us moving onwards and upwards where we belong and more likely to stay once we get there.

I'd take any of those three right now if they'd be willing to come.

Failing that I'd give Micky Adams or Ian Dowie a chance.

Then again - what about Jamie Redknapp? I always think he speaks a lot of sense on Sky, but his media commitments may prevent him?

Arry buys the club with his millions and Jamie is the boss..Bobs your uncle.

Like Souness..Arry might just stick one or two fingers up.;)

I'd be happy to see Wotte stay whether we are relegated or not. I think he's done a commendable job in very difficult circumstances. IMO he deserves a whole season and hopefully a bit of money to spend under a new owner.

There's an awful lot of frustration at the moment and calls for changing anything and everything and accepting anything and everything back in it's place.

Wotte stands to offer some continuity to the club if he stays on under a new owner.

We have W3 D5 and L4 under Wotte. Hardly stunning but he has kept us in the frame to avoid relegation and we are not sunk yet.

Manager of the year for me. Gets my vote

Is this a joke thread? We as fans have complained about previous regimes keep changing the manager and it seems every 6 months we have the wish to change again!! It is so ironic. In the last 3 seaons we have wanted Every manager gone even though we had the posts saying, we must give a new man a chance.Patently we dont mean it.

Paul Ince by the way

You really think most of them managers A: would come here and B: stay at the club and dont **** off as soon as a team from a higher division wants them?

You need someone who is willing to stay around for at least a few years to build there own team, if they fail then so be it, you will not get miracle results straight away. An old player would be best id say beacuse they tend to be alot more loyal to clubs so i would have to say Paul Tisdale. I would also like to see MLT doing it as you'll know he'll never leave but if he would fail his status as a legend would seriously be damaged.

LOL! Welcome to the club.

Shearer and Dowie :)

I think that could be a possibility if they go down and Ashley does not give them much money and we get a rich new owner. So now I have written that down it looks a little more silly than it sounded in my head...

I don't buy this. If they are successful with us they can go up with us. If they succeed again, they can go up again. Why shouldn't someone do a Keegan with us???

If they are then poached by United, Chelsea or England, fine by me. Cos we'll be in the Premiership by then!!!

Rattlehead for manager it is then!

;)

Seriously, I would go for Paul Tisdale (as I said after Burley left and after Portaloo went).
