saint lard Posted 24 August, 2008 Posted 24 August, 2008 (edited) Saints and Plymouth are chasing Spurs' reserve striker Tomas Pekhart. Spurs are keen to loan him out to gain first team experience. Czech Republic under 21 player,19 yrs old. Also i see that Sunderlands Anthony Stokes is being sent out on loan,no club has been linked at present,By Roy Keane. I think it is important that we get someone in fairly sharpish, obviously JP has singled that this is an area for strenthening. Will the squad be complete with one more addition?, dependant of course if we off load the the likes of Skacel, Euell,or they regain their place in the squad. Edited 24 August, 2008 by saint lard
miserableoldgit Posted 24 August, 2008 Posted 24 August, 2008 Sorry. You just got there before me! Just started another thread on this.
SaintDonkey Posted 24 August, 2008 Posted 24 August, 2008 Six foot two and a decent scoring record for the Czech U21s (six in seven days). Could be useful at this level and add a bit of height. I wouldn't say no. Not sure about Stokes - amazing in Scotland, anonymous in Sunderland.
northants saint Posted 24 August, 2008 Posted 24 August, 2008 I see this was in NOTW - does that count?
VectisSaint Posted 24 August, 2008 Posted 24 August, 2008 Will the squad be complete with one more addition? No, not until we get some proper full backs... But another striker would help, preferably someone with some height and pace, to give us a different option when needed
saint lard Posted 24 August, 2008 Author Posted 24 August, 2008 I see this was in NOTW - does that count? Not sure, you decide. Pekhart also scored 19 goals in 20 games for the Spurs academy and 2 goals for the first team in a pre season friendly. If true, maybe worth a punt.
chivvy1664 Posted 24 August, 2008 Posted 24 August, 2008 No, not until we get some proper full backs... But another striker would help, preferably someone with some height and pace, to give us a different option when needed Kenwyne Jones would have been awesome in our new formation.
Dynamo Naive Posted 24 August, 2008 Posted 24 August, 2008 I saw Pekhart in a pre-season friendly for Spurs v Aldershot, and he looked impressive. Big, strong and direct but played the ball well on the deck too. Worth a look I reckon.
Matthew Le God Posted 24 August, 2008 Posted 24 August, 2008 Would be a very good loan signing if this is true. Very good in the air this lad.
Matthew Le God Posted 24 August, 2008 Posted 24 August, 2008 He scored 3 goals in a game against Saints last year. http://www.spursodyssey.com/0708/u18so010907.html
saintchris23 Posted 24 August, 2008 Posted 24 August, 2008 That scoreline was worrying. The team contained Mills, Hatch and McLaggon. I thought our academy was the envy of Europe?

SuperSAINT Posted 24 August, 2008 Posted 24 August, 2008 Always on my shortlist on FM - But never signed him - Is that an omen?
Saint Matty 76 Posted 24 August, 2008 Posted 24 August, 2008 I'd gladly take either of them, but if McGoldrick keeps banging them in, it's going to be hard to replace him.
saint lard Posted 24 August, 2008 Author Posted 24 August, 2008 Plymouth will be on the look out for a striker, they are releasing Jermaine Easter, due to personal issues. Actually, i suspect release is not the correct term, they would surely want a fee for him...that counts us out then.
South City Si Posted 24 August, 2008 Posted 24 August, 2008 You guys are saying how great this Spurs nipper is but McGoldrick scored 30+ in ressies last year and before in the academy! IS pekhart that much better?

IS pekhart that much better? Its not either or though - its both! Can't argue with that in a long season when we're bound to get injuries and exhaustion with games so close together.
Professor Posted 25 August, 2008 Posted 25 August, 2008 Rather than start another thread on the striker issue, maybe we can revive this one for a while. I have no idea whether there is anything in the Pekhart rumour or whether he is any good, but even with Stern still on the books, there is a need for more cover and more competition. It may be a budget issue, and perhaps the money is not available for wages unless someone goes, but its going to be a worry as the week goes on, if nothing happens. No side can do well unless it is scoring goals and that is the area that needs addressing.

You would like to have thought that Davies going (wages plus incoming fee) would cover wages for Cork and a loan striker (Pekhart??) and keep the bank a bit happier.

IS pekhart that much better? I doubt anyone here has seen him play, but he seems highly rated and he's an U21. If he's a decent player it will be an important player to have in the squad, two strikers isn't enough for a whole season.
saint lard Posted 26 August, 2008 Author Posted 26 August, 2008 He has signed on loan.good news methinks.
Wildgoose Posted 26 August, 2008 Posted 26 August, 2008 He has signed on loan.good news methinks. Yep, agreed. And thanks for the original heads up.
