Dog Posted 4 April, 2009 Share Posted 4 April, 2009 Took a couple of mates and their better halves to their first match at Saint Mary's. After the match we stopped in Yates for a quick pint before heading to the station and had the misfortune to emerge just as the Charlton fans and their escort passed. A bunch of Saints yoof were acting like complete tossers and we were trapped between them and the police. We were forced to shelter in a doorway with an elderly couple who were also in the wrong place at the wrong time while the idiots threw things at the poice. As the police baton charged I was politely informed that perhaps I would be attending the last couple of matchs this season alone. These scum need life bans now. Sounds mental ! What were the yobbos throwing at the rozzers anyway? Women shouldn't go to football matches, it should be against the law. Trader are you a stand up comedian? You're nuts! saintpat Posted 4 April, 2009 Share Posted 4 April, 2009 There was trouble- GET OVER IT! I couldn't go, I was working as usual- 100 miles away. Two of my sons, aged 13 and 20 were there and apparently it was far from pleasant. Saints fans kicked off- and not just teenagers, a whole selection of ages- don't bullmanure people -it does't help. A section of Charlton fans deliberately wound up Saints fans and it turned ugly. It was obviously an incredibly emotional day for all Saints fans, my son was texting me and I was emotional before the game, what it must have been like for long term fans who were there, I can't imagine. I cannot condone any violence but I can understand why emotions were running high and how people could react given provocation. Saints fans have to accept that it happened and not bury their heads in the sand, my 13 year old was truly shocked and worried. BUT- who wouldn't be emotional after the week that Saints fans have had? There is ABSOLUTELY NO WAY that a serious potential investor would be put off by what happened off pitch today. It was a one-off that can be easily explained and many Charlton fans are from from innocent in this whole event.
Viking Warrior Posted 4 April, 2009 Share Posted 4 April, 2009 Some people have a sick sense of humour if thet think they are being ironic about an 8 year old has their head kicked in. I saw nothing humurous in saint 1976 and bournemouth saints post. I also looked at the clip Stmarco refers to, there was one person in a wheelchair being pushed away. whilst not directly in the centre of the melee I bet they were scared ****less .all the same. Well done to those who were causing trouble Albeit a handful of saints, you have brought nothing but shame to southampton football club.
Viking Warrior Posted 4 April, 2009 Share Posted 4 April, 2009 Good post St Pat I was thinking about what you said and potential investors earlier. I don't think todays results made much difference to potential investors. If they are truly serious. they probably have aleady accepted that we are relegated givne the potential 10pt deduction. but equally they new we were in a mess and more likely to drop into Div 1. If they weren't seriously interested then they wouldnt bother talking to the administrators. from what I can work out from Exit and derry I think it was, the administrators were talking to a number of serious people today. I could be wrong , just picking up on what derry exit and I think weston said before the match. These serious investors can obviously saints potential whilest we could be in div 1 next year I really dont think that is a problem for them. So perhaps trough my drunken stupor (I spelt it right this time Phil) thinks are not as bad as they actually seem right now
saintpat Posted 4 April, 2009 Share Posted 4 April, 2009 "Good post St Pat" Careful- I'm far more used to abuse!! In my incredibly limited posts to date I have been accused of being a Lowe 'plant' and luvvie' because I DARED to say that it wasn't only Lowes fault and I could see two sides to the argument. My two sons, who went today and have been indoctrinated into following the Saints, even though they have never lived in Southampton, were both shocked today. After being a regular at the Dell in the 70's, I doubt it what close to even being 'handbags' but football has moved on.

Glad so many find your scum element a laugh. Shameful and a disgrace but what can we expect when alledgedly decent fans turn on their own just because they don't support their particular cause. There are fans outside those loyal supporters who regulalrly attend games that through one action or another seem hell bent on destroying this club and doing all they can to deter potential investors. I hope that somewhere the incident is on CCTV and the inevitably drunk little low life who did this is named and shamed and punished appropriately. Very depressing. I wish the Charlton fan well and that she suffers no serious side effects from a serious assault that could have very grave consequences. It would be nice to know how she is doing tonight and if things are ok or not. I think all decent Saints fans will be appalled at this news and I'm sure like myself offer our sincere apologies and hope she is making a good recovery and feels she can return next year in safety when no doubt we will be meeting in the league. Anyone read about Natasha Richardson's recent bump on the head? Can I recommend for the good of us all, anyone who has any information about this assault passes it on to the police if they haven't already arrested the scumbag. SoccerMom Posted 5 April, 2009 Share Posted 5 April, 2009 Were not a family club any more, the sooner people realise this the better. Not quite sure what that's supposed to mean? Does this mean that as far as some supporters are concerned families are not welcome, or that for the time being the atmosphere is going to be so bad that families shouldn't turn up? Sad if you think that's true - it's a death sentence for the club if only a self-appointed 'elite' (I use that word with a heavy sense of irony) will ensure that only they can be at matches. Don't allow the selfish, self-serving useless minority to drive the real, vital long-term fanbase away from the club. Because that's the best way to ensure that there won't be a Saints to support in the future. Saints is a family club. Just wish the families of the 'yoof' had drug them up better. Can't be going with the excuse that ooh, poor babies, they're upset. If you're past a certain age - like three - then you should be able to deal with negative emotions without hurting anyone. Uncontrolled, appallingly managed toddlers, the lot of them. This is not a class statement, BTW. In my line of work I come across plenty of very privileged teenagers who are no better than brats, and plenty of rather less privileged ones who are and will become the decent bedrock of the community. There was trouble, get over it? NO. It's unacceptable and it will kill the club. the yobs should get over themselves and GROW UP, the lot of them. Rant over. Apart from one or two older Charlton fellas, the rest looked as though they were more than happy to be put back in the ground (not as much bouncing around outside compared to their bouncing the other side of the netting when they were inside LOL). Walking home we mentioned that it wouldn't surprise us if they put them all in the back of a meat wagon and bussed them to Parkway, or if not assign one copper to each of them for the walk to the station. I think what Dan is trying to say is that back when we were a Premiership team we had much less of a hooligan element and were generally perceived by others in the footballing community as a friendly welcoming club. Nowadays though that isn't the case, and unfortunately we're being compared to Cardiff,Stoke etc... when it comes to fan behaviour,so even though theres still a vast majority of families at games, its the minority that have given us the bad reputation. No we just had a smaller hooligan element than the big clubs, with only 13500 home fans the majority with season tickets. Now we are perceived as one of the big clubs, in terms of potential, we just have the same % of yobs as everyone else

Noodles34 Posted 5 April, 2009 Share Posted 5 April, 2009 Just to put the record straight, there was a firm/crew in with The Charlton lot, you couldn't miss em. This is pretty unusual for these guys to make themselves so prominent. Usually there is trouble away from the ground and most people don't even get to hear about it. There has been a recent nasty history between Charlton and Saints and obviously these boys were here for some action, as i said its very unusual for these type of guys to be so obvious. Anyway the old bill knew who they were thats why they had them cordoned off and they were letting all the other Charlton fans go as they wished. Anyone who reckons those Charlton boys were scared is very mistaken, these guys aren't scared. As for the Saints, well a lot of huffing and puffing with the OB and shouting etc but it was at The Albert that the real Southampton boys were waiting, but to be fair to the police they had it all in control. I left it at Six Dials but didn't hear anything licking off after. So thats the way it is, Football Factory in your face.
