This all originates from the never ending 'i'm a better fan than you are' competition. I don't live anywhere near Southampton and usually only go to one or two away games a season. I keep up to day with saints news by regularly checking this forum and the Echo's website, I also buy the home replica shirt each time a new one comes out. Am I a better fan than some? Yes. However I am a worse fan than most. This does not bother me, the club means a lot less to me than most others; such as season ticket holders and, characters on here with thousands of posts to their name. People need to understand that while some consider saints to be a major part of their life, other don't. And it is their entitlement to do that. I'm happy that my weekend isn't ruined if saints lose, and that I spend my Saturday's and money in better ways, in my opinion of course. So to those proud super fans at sms yesterday ridiculing those that attend less regularly, remember, if they choose to, they could be just as super as you. It is their choice not to and, is not for you to criticise.

The more I read this forum, the more I wonder if the demise of my beloved Saints, who I've supported for over half a century, could even be a good thing. I really don't want to see the club wound up, but abuse of fellow supporters, following on the abuse of the chairman and the directors, is almost the last straw. We have supporters who want to attend every game, some who just attend the occasional game and some who follow the team through the papers, net, TV and the radio. Everyone is entitled to support the club in their own way, without being subjected to more mindless abuse.

First time I have agreed with a post of yours; had to happen sometime..

Still at least they were there for 70 minutes, the team didn't turn up at all. Noice in the Itchen North was pretty good, especially in the first half. Quite honestly the atmosphere was dead adfter Charlton scored the second. Did the Northam make any noise today, cos we didn't hear much of them. Course it could just be the acoustics.

The Northam was non-stop noise in the first half. The second half was a different matter. Several songs were started but none of them really caught on. There was a lot of criticism of our players that just didn't happen in the first half. Maybe it was because most of the play was toward the Northam in the early part of the second half but the tension got the better of people and this seemed to create the flashpoint when people started leaving Kingsland in their droves with 20 minutes to go (as far as I can tell, the abuse wasn't aimed at the Northam/Kingsland corner). They paid their money and went when they wanted to. It's their choice. I've never left early and never will but that's my choice.

I am happy to be one of those that left early. I left early because the Saints were clueless and I didnt want to watch them anymore. I have rarely left any match in all the years I have been warching football. I think the last match was the Leeds one.

This if you are a true fan you sing anti Pompey songs for 90 mins is absolute crap

Absuing your own fans is truly pathetic half of you wont be there next season anyway.

The club must get embarassed by people like that when it is trying to bring back supporters. I was really embarassed for the Saints that we had people like that such tossers

A few leaving the Kinglsand north got some much deserved abuse from a large section of the northam.

"much deserved abuse"

Why would that be then. Are the morons in the Northam ( usually about fiftteen or 18 stone) the guardians of what a true supporter is. Shall they be the judges of what conduct is right.

It was embarassing for the club . Do you really think that the club wants that to happen.

From now on if anyone leaves are they going to be abused.

No doubt we will get some nonsense about "plastic supporters". The club cant survive just on the Uber supporters especially if their conduct means less normal people turn up.

It is all a sham all an act the same kind of people who turn up Jane Goodys funeral

A large proportion of the Northam and Itchen North for that matter are supporters that have season tickets. We/they follow the team away aswell, and usually are the ones starting songs and creating an atmosphere away from home. Football would be boring without the standing/singing. That about chavs/morons is very stereotypical. There's a lot of normal saints fans in Northam/Itchen North that generally do just stand and sing without wanting to fight the away fans.

Fans in the kingsland were also chanting "******s" at them. This was just after charlton had scored their 3rd goal, with over 20 minutes of the game still to play, so to leave at that point is a f**king disgrace if you ask me. If every fan had that attitude and gave up as soon as things turned against us then it would be an embarassment.

What pleasant fans we really have you are a disgrace

Leaving a few minutes early to beat the crowds is fair enough. Leaving over 20 minutes early because your team is losing is a disgrace. Also it's not as though they were being genuinely threatened, it's all just part of the good-humoured banter.

It really is shocking that Saints fans are turning on each other in these circumstances. Whether you go to every game or only manage a few per season, we all support the same club.

As for leaving early - you pay your money you take a chance. It is a deeply frustrating time to support Saints and just because you get so dissappointed that you get out early it doesnt mean you cant be bothered to rough out the bad times. And to be honest there has been so much trouble at Saints games lately you cant blame families etc for wanting to beat the rush at the end.

We all still suffer when we turn up for work and get a ribbing from our friends/workmates etc.

The only hostility i saw in the kingsland corner was when the fans left on 70 mins, bloody disgrace aswell if you ask me.

That and the nob that spat over everyone whilst shouting about how he had won 100 quid on the grand national and then asked for a fight with the bloke about 4 times his size.

Nice one mate.... everyone else was here for the football

He was right behind me as it hapens and yeah looking at the bloke he was gobbing off to, i'd say his decision to get off before the final whistle was the most sensible thing he did all day. That and picking the winner obviously.

It's strange how people are abused so, when 20mins after the game, there was not a sole left in the Stadium! Surely you have to stay for 'at least' 30mins after the game has ended in order to applaud your team after they have showered and changed! I thought it was then customary to wait by the players exit in order to carry their bags for them to their cars?

And so, on that basis, these fans waving their 'plastic' wallets for their season tickets in the air, are in fact, no better than those they jibe. And they should take a long hard look in the mirror and ask themselves if they really are a true Saints fan, because from here, it looks like they're just part timers...

On the basis of the evidence to date, one has to question how on earth you passed any exams at all, although I understand it's all pretty easy these days what with nobody being allowed to fail anymore. Frankly, your post is complete drivel and you certainly come across as a proper thickie.

never happened

3 rows behind me it did indeed happened - they (perhaps 30-40 people) where actually shouting rather harsh words towards some people in the stands that where there to support Saints. And then had their ST´s up into the air.....

So 70´s Mike - sad to say but you are wrong this time.

Have to say me and my mates were moaning about the people that leave early as well but abusing them takes it to a whole different (and unjustifiable, imo) level. However there is a massive difference between fans leaving early in protest and fans leaving early to beat the traffic which I see at every game. I could not believe the streams of people leaving at 2-3 with 4 mins of injury time to go. Absolutely mind boggling. Why go to football if you're happy to miss possibly an equaliser or a last minute winner just because you don't want to spend 15 mins in a traffic queue. Pointless. (Just my opinion though!)

I often leave my seat after the 90 minutes, while added on time is being played. But do not confuse people leaving their seats early with people leaving the stadium early. I leave my seat higher in the stands and try and get a seat as close to the exits for the last few minutes so that I can dive out quickly, but the view I get is the same as that of others around me that have paid for those seats. Often two thirds of the way up the Northam stand, if one leaves at the final whistle, it can take ages to get to the exit. Many others do leave the arena early but watch the remainder of the game on the TV in the concourse, although if I did that, I would feel that I had missed out on the euphoria in the stadium if we scored. Regrettably, that is a possibility that is ever more unlikely with our current team.

Its pathetic to see that amount of fans arguing in this thread.

FFS this is the time to unit as fans of Southampton Football Club, none of this 'I'm a bigger supporter than you' b*llocks!

Tbh, we arn't going to get anywhere if theres fans turning against eachother.

But I guess thats been the story of our season really?

I think that now is the time to unite and stand as one as a fan base. Put aside our differences and stand together in the face of adversity. Link arms against the tide of misery that waits to wash over us. We are all Saints fans. That is the tie that bonds. Each and every one of you shares that. I love you all.

Having said that, Deanovski is a bit of a c*nt. And he needs a haircut.

If you really did get 9 GCSEs at A to C (which I suspect is not the case) then it's a damning indicment of our secondary education system.

On the subject of this thread it was a real shame to see people leaving after the 3rd goal but I can understand why they did it. I was close to it myself but bit my tongue and remained planted in my seat.

Had the club not been in this unfortunate position I would have walked out and I suspect those that did head for the exits were far from plastic. It's far more likely they've been to every game so far and could not believe what was unfolding before their eyes.

We are better than our performance on Saturday and in a typical Saints tradition, a team that have been tragically poor all season turned up looking like league winners.

I think, under the circumstances, a little frustration was allowed.

I never cease to be amazed at the self righteous fan police. Whilst I am sure that not all of them are under 25, single, no kids, living within the city, the tone and style of their posts would indicate this profile to be the most prevalent. If attendance is a key guide I am a plastic only 3 games this season, despite over 45 years of support behind me. Why so few visits, I have a round trip of 160 miles to home games, I have family who don’t all share my passion and I also enjoy the egg chasing game and am a season ticket holder at Bath (I missed Saturdays top of the table game to support my football club in its hour of need) I took my eight year old, his 8th game, who said on Saturday when I explained the problems we have, "they can have all my money", he hasn’t taken his new shirt off since Saturday. He is of course currently a plastic, but watch out the self appointed fan police, in 10 years time he will be in the Northam setting the rules for the married over 35’s with kids who live outside the city and don’t quite share his youthful and admirable passion for our fantastic club, you never know some of you may have grown up by then and will be one of his targets.

It was when we went 3 v 1 down, rats deserting sinking ship by leaving early. Rightly booed.

It really bugs me that people feel they have to right to judge others like this. 27,000 turned up in the club's hour of need - they paid their money, and if they want to leave early after seeing a load of dross then why shouldn't they? I felt like leaving at half time during a different recent match it was so bad. Didn't go but wish I had.

Yeah, I know plastic fans and all that crap, but I for one am not prepared to turn up week after week to watch rubbish - but anyone who does has a perfect right to.

While I'm in the mood - that article in the Times was it about Southampton being a massive club is spot on. Big clubs have big histories and we don't have one. 27 years struggling in the top division doesn't constitute a big club IMO. There are other teams who have achieved far more than we have but don't keep banging on about being big clubs.

Cor blimey! It's not as if they were physically assaulted or genuinely threatened, people were just chanting "******s" at them, as they do at the referee and opposition players most games. It's all just part of the friendly banter and, as they had given up on the team and were leaving with over 20 minutes left because it looked as though we were going to lose, they deserved everything they got. Of course they have every right to leave if they want but if they're going to they should expect to take some stick for it.

My brother was one who left early and I was very tempted. THE TEAM DO NOT DESERVE OUR SUPPORT WHEN THEY PLAY WITH SUCH A LACK OF SKILL, PASSION AND COMMITTMENT.

We have both been regulars for 25 years+ and have barely left early in that time. This was the straw that broke the camels back for my brother.

The real retards are the d*cks who applaud absolute sh*te after the game. WHEN ANY TEAM PLAYS THE WAY THEY DID THEY DESERVE AN ABSOLUTE SLATING

This after Leon Crouch pleaded to everyone to get behind the team even if things aren't going well.

I was as peed off with this performance as anyone, but these are exceptional circumstances. In a few weeks there might not be a Saints to watch, you might then just wish you could watch Saints for one more time and savour every last minute of what time you have left with them.

I am against the abuse of using the 'W' word, but to see so many fans leaving in their droves with 20 mins still to go, really dissapointed me.

Ok that's a fair point especially as the team didn't even try until the last few minutes. However due to the exceptional circumstances at the moment I felt that on saturday I was showing my support for the club as a whole, rather than the 11 players on the pitch and that's the main reason I felt annoyed with those leaving early. We need to show great support for the club for each remaining game even if/when we're 5-0 down at home to crystal palace.

But fair enough, it's not for me to say when you should leave a game.

Rather than 'fans' slagging off their own for leaving early, they should be directing their abuse at the team for not turning up at all.

Lets all be honest, the biggest mugs are the ones who turned up because Lowe had gone and wanted to save the club. Maybe if you had turned up before we wouldn't be in this posistion...

You are not entitled to speak for "all" of us. Who elected you as the spokesman? And if you wish to represent the view of all of us, please state something that everybody can agree on.

You certainly do not speak on behalf of me. In my opinion and I have stated it before, the biggest mugs are those who have supported Lowe regardless of the sh*t that has been served up by him in the name of entertainment and the cost of it. It is equally valid to state that had many more people taken a stand against him much earlier, we might not have been in this position now.
