1976_Child Posted 3 April, 2009 Posted 3 April, 2009 Richard Branson grew up near to Southampton (New Milton area I think). What a coup it would be if he bought the club. The Virgin St Mary's stadium!
alpine_saint Posted 3 April, 2009 Posted 3 April, 2009 The Virgin St Mary's stadium! That's actually f**king funny...
Saf... Posted 3 April, 2009 Posted 3 April, 2009 I saw someone say earlier that they wrote to him. Largely pointless but worth a try - let's all do it. What's his address?
Son of Bob Posted 3 April, 2009 Posted 3 April, 2009 He's just pumped a load of cash into sponsoring Brawn F1 so pretty unlikely!

Soggy Bottom Posted 3 April, 2009 Posted 3 April, 2009 Is it true that his mum lives in the New Forest area
corsacar saint Posted 3 April, 2009 Posted 3 April, 2009 In 2004, I worked for one of the local parcel companies, and we delivered [believe or not]a mobile phone to his mother in West Sussex.

samoakley Posted 3 April, 2009 Posted 3 April, 2009 This could be aload of bull **** but my M8 reckons when he is going to invest in football he will do so at Oxford Utd because he supports them my m8 is a Oxford fan but knows people high up there.
badgerx16 Posted 3 April, 2009 Posted 3 April, 2009 White Star Line? Well, we have certainly hit an iceberg; Captain Lowe standing on the bridge ordering 'full steam ahead', lookout Wilde in the crow's nest having forgotten his binoculars, and Marconi man Jones ignoring the warnings of 'bergs ahead
Block 5 Posted 3 April, 2009 Posted 3 April, 2009 Haven't we been here before? I'm sure someone has asked Virgin and their response was along the lines of Virgin would not sponsor a football team because that would be 'regionalist' whereas Virgin is a national/international brand. Their fear was that by sponsoring a team from a particular area it would prejudice markets in other areas, ie. no one in P****mouth would buy Virgin products. (I'm sure they all use Tesco value mobile phones anyway!)

How much is your "m8" worth? Does he know that Oxford Utd will cost him more than a packet of Cheese Straws?

I understand he has been invited to invest into Oxford before, and he turned them down He's either not interested in football, or he sees football clubs as bad investments

Johnny Bognor Posted 3 April, 2009 Posted 3 April, 2009 Is it true that his mum lives in the New Forest area No, his mum and dad live in the Witterings (Near Chichester), not far from my parents. I have met Richard on a few occasions as my other half has had 18 years service with Virgin Atlantic - she did spend a week in Neckar island (http://www.neckerisland.com) with Richard (and Ted, his father), so I could always get her to put a word in.

Ponty Posted 3 April, 2009 Posted 3 April, 2009 Branson via Vigin has just invested heavily in F1. A deal which expires after the Malaysian GP this weekend. This could be aload of bull **** but my M8 reckons when he is going to invest in football he will do so at Oxford Utd because he supports them my m8 is a Oxford fan but knows people high up there. He lives in Kidlington, a few miles outside Oxford, so this has some legs.

Channon's Sideburns Posted 3 April, 2009 Posted 3 April, 2009 I think Cunard should buy us - considering their historic links to the City/Port of Southampton. More like 'Kinhard' in our present situation...!
SaintDonkey Posted 3 April, 2009 Posted 3 April, 2009 I know that the head of design for the Virgin Atlantic brand comes from Southampton (Joe Ferry - grew up in Midanbury). He's very much got Branson's ear, anyone on here know him?
Dog Posted 3 April, 2009 Posted 3 April, 2009 Branson couldn't afford to buy us. He is too tight!! If he did buy SFC, he wouldn't know how to run it. Right, that's the bait set, lets hope he reads it.

I'm sure someone has asked Virgin and their response was along the lines of Virgin would not sponsor a football team because that would be 'regionalist' whereas Virgin is a national/international brand. I'm sure I can remember that a Virgin company sponsored Crystal Palace back in the late 80's/early 90's.
Ponty Posted 3 April, 2009 Posted 3 April, 2009 C/mon Ponty - why don't you and I go knock on his door this weekend? Long driveway - big dogs.
Weston Super Saint Posted 3 April, 2009 Posted 3 April, 2009 Has anyone wrote to Paul Allen yet? I think you should do it
bridge too far Posted 3 April, 2009 Posted 3 April, 2009 Long driveway - big dogs. You've got the smart car and I'm not scared of big dogs

Had she got any gossip from his pillow talk we could use to blackmail him?
Chez Posted 3 April, 2009 Posted 3 April, 2009 we offer the right colour scheme for his brand, not sure we offer the right kind of marketing vehicle though seeing as we are close to the third tier of English football. If we was to enter this market he'd want to back a footballing giant.

Johnny Bognor Posted 3 April, 2009 Posted 3 April, 2009 Had she got any gossip from his pillow talk we could use to blackmail him? There were other people there and I understand he prefers blondes (well that's what the missus told me).
