Arizona Posted 2 April, 2009 Posted 2 April, 2009 Bit of gallows humour. If AFCS were formed, what would you chose as the nickname, who would be the manager and what colour for the strip? Also, given that we'd be starting in something like the 10th tier of English football, which retired ex. Saints who you try and bring back? Not sure about the name, but I'd have Nick Holmes in from Salisbury and green and black stripes. I'd also try and get back Tessem and Pahars in some capacity.
Kenilworthy Posted 2 April, 2009 Posted 2 April, 2009 "The New Saints", Red n White, Steve Grant. I am afraid that TNS have already bagged the New Saints
1976_Child Posted 2 April, 2009 Posted 2 April, 2009 Red n White Saints I mentioned a while ago that if the worst case does happen and SFC is wound up for good then it would be possible to buy the 'brand name' SFC and club badge and carry on as before.
a1ex2001 Posted 2 April, 2009 Posted 2 April, 2009 The Saints, Red and White quaters ala the origional St Marys Team, Who knows
Spades Posted 2 April, 2009 Posted 2 April, 2009 Would have to stick with red and white... possibly halves or quarters though instead of stripes. Id try and tempt Telfer back with Tessem. Maybe get Marsden in with a coaching role. Would look to have Widderington or Holmes as manager... Think Benali would come in with some sort of role aswell. MLT after a couple of years Also, iv heard theres a chap called Rupert looking for a new team to be chairman of...
derry Posted 2 April, 2009 Posted 2 April, 2009 As it's gallows humour, blue shirts, white shorts, red socks. nick name pompey. If Southampton went out of business I wouldn't bet on Gaydamak moving the club then rebranding it.
Spades Posted 2 April, 2009 Posted 2 April, 2009 Where would an AFC Southampton team play? How would we go about starting the team? Who would play? How would we find players of a good enough standard? Lots of questions
St Marco Posted 2 April, 2009 Posted 2 April, 2009 How about nickmane Phoneix as in rise up from the ashes and all that? Maybe a bit too American for us lot Would have to be The Saints surely? Or is that copyrighted? As for team colours Home Kit Red and White and away kit White and Red? Manager would have to be MLT or someone who means a lot to us. Someone who can bring back the old fighting spirit.
docker-p Posted 2 April, 2009 Posted 2 April, 2009 I don't know about the nickname but the actual name should be... SOUTHAMPTON 1885 And where Red & White stripes.
Pancake Posted 2 April, 2009 Posted 2 April, 2009 I am afraid that TNS have already bagged the New Saints But they are in a small Principality somewhere... gah. OK then, Phoenix Saints and add some yellow to the kit for the symbolic flames... too cheesy?
Kingsland Red Posted 2 April, 2009 Posted 2 April, 2009 Would have to stick with red and white... possibly halves or quarters though instead of stripes. Id try and tempt Telfer back with Tessem. Maybe get Marsden in with a coaching role. Would look to have Widderington or Holmes as manager... Think Benali would come in with some sort of role aswell. MLT after a couple of years Also, iv heard theres a chap called Rupert looking for a new team to be chairman of... telfer is playing for Slough Town at Winchester City on saturday - getting a bit of experience for the Saints come back.
Petersfield Saint Posted 2 April, 2009 Posted 2 April, 2009 I don't know about the nickname but the actual name should be... SOUTHAMPTON 1885 And where Red & White stripes. Gets my vote!
bungle Posted 2 April, 2009 Posted 2 April, 2009 But they are in a small Principality somewhere... gah. Actually, they play home games in England.
Pancake Posted 2 April, 2009 Posted 2 April, 2009 Actually, they play home games in England. I knew that would get a rise from you Bungle (or another Wales based poster), twas only a joke...
Scudamore Posted 2 April, 2009 Posted 2 April, 2009 I don't know about the nickname but the actual name should be... SOUTHAMPTON 1885 And where Red & White stripes. Southampton St Mary's I like this big writing stuff...
Pancake Posted 2 April, 2009 Posted 2 April, 2009 I like this big writing stuff... We dont. DO NOT use CAPITAL LETTERS in topic titles, nor excessively large fonts in posts. Not only is this construed as shouting, it also causes problems for users browsing the forum on mobile devices.
Scudamore Posted 2 April, 2009 Posted 2 April, 2009 We dont. And? You're not going to infract me again now are you Pancake? Let's be reasonable...
Pancake Posted 2 April, 2009 Posted 2 April, 2009 And? You're not going to infract me again now are you Pancake? Let's be reasonable... Do you like computer games and think I suck?
saintiaaaaaan Posted 2 April, 2009 Posted 2 April, 2009 Could mege with Eastleigh and become the Eastleigh Saints??? Also would save a few years being as wed start in conferance south... Lowe always wanted us to move to eastleigh in one form or another prehaps this is his chance(!)
bungle Posted 2 April, 2009 Posted 2 April, 2009 I knew that would get a rise from you Bungle (or another Wales based poster), twas only a joke... I don't live in Wales.
Pancake Posted 2 April, 2009 Posted 2 April, 2009 I don't live in Wales. I can only apologise then, I was under the impression you did. Please accept this token of my sorry-est-ness: :smt049
Scudamore Posted 2 April, 2009 Posted 2 April, 2009 Do you like computer games and think I suck? Whatever you like to get up to in your spare time is fine by me... And i do like computer games...haven't bought one in ages though... Metroid Prime 2 would be the game in question...make of that what you will...
abesaint Posted 2 April, 2009 Posted 2 April, 2009 How about nickmane Phoneix as in rise up from the ashes and all that? Maybe a bit too American for us lot Would have to be The Saints surely? Or is that copyrighted? As for team colours Home Kit Red and White and away kit White and Red? Manager would have to be MLT or someone who means a lot to us. Someone who can bring back the old fighting spirit. Aldershot Town did that in 1992 when they came out of administration. It was known as 'The Rise of the Phoenix'. So sorry, it has already been done! Nice idea though...
Rob the Saint Posted 2 April, 2009 Posted 2 April, 2009 Bit of gallows humour. If AFCS were formed, what would you chose as the nickname, who would be the manager and what colour for the strip? Surely it would be called AFFS not AFCS ? (Aw for F**k's sake)
trousers Posted 2 April, 2009 Posted 2 April, 2009 Semi- serious question on the back of this 'new team' thread....what is the deadline for entering/registering a new club into whatever non-league we would have to enter at for next season? Is this something 'someone' ought to be thinking about 'now' in parallel to what's going on with the 'current version' of club? I'd hate to see the situation where SFC went under after such a deadline and we're left with nowt for next season, not even a phoenix version of the club.

I'd hate to see the situation where SFC went under after such a deadline and we're left with nowt for next season, not even a phoenix version of the club. I'd just like to say I hate the use of this word in relation to new footie teams. Further, if we do form a new team, let's not be a bunch of ****s like those ****s from ****ish AFC Wimbledon. I've never encountered a worse set of non-league fans.
SaintBobby Posted 2 April, 2009 Posted 2 April, 2009 We could ground share with Eastleigh, surely? (capacity c. 3,000)
St Landrew Posted 2 April, 2009 Posted 2 April, 2009 Red n White Saints I mentioned a while ago that if the worst case does happen and SFC is wound up for good then it would be possible to buy the 'brand name' SFC and club badge and carry on as before. That's what I would have thought.
Junction 9 Posted 2 April, 2009 Posted 2 April, 2009 Southampton Town F.C Are we losing our city status as well now? Where will it all end.
sambosa75 Posted 2 April, 2009 Posted 2 April, 2009 Are we losing our city status as well now? Where will it all end. Technically I think we are a town as we lack a Cathedral. May be wrong though.
Spades Posted 2 April, 2009 Posted 2 April, 2009 Its gota be one of... AFC Southampton Southampton Saints Southampton St Marys Saint Marys Southampton City
sambosa75 Posted 2 April, 2009 Posted 2 April, 2009 I'd have something resonant like Southampton Pheonix (as in Pheonix from the ashes etc..). Even after so much in-fighting the past few years, something like Southampton United as well. I would play with red and white stripes, got to still be nicknamed Saints. Not sure about Nick Holmes. Think he might be settled with Salisbury. Jimmy Case, Jason Dodd or Franny could be good alternatives. Would say Matty but wouldnt be worth his while financially speaking. Players we could get back; Killer, Claus, Tessem...
Junction 9 Posted 2 April, 2009 Posted 2 April, 2009 Technically I think we are a town as we lack a Cathedral. May be wrong though. We were granted city status in 1964.
samski saint Posted 2 April, 2009 Posted 2 April, 2009 Technically I think we are a town as we lack a Cathedral. May be wrong though. Thats why I said it
trousers Posted 2 April, 2009 Posted 2 April, 2009 "Criteria City status is not, and never has been, a right which can be claimed by a town fulfilling certain conditions. The use of specific criteria could lead to a town claiming city status as of right, which in turn might devalue the honour. All applications are considered on their individual merits. Must a city have a cathedral? No. " http://www.dca.gov.uk/constitution/city/citygj.htm#part2
krissyboy31 Posted 2 April, 2009 Posted 2 April, 2009 Technically I think we are a town as we lack a Cathedral. May be wrong though. Blimey, it's going to cost the council a fortune changing all those new road signs that say "City of Southampton" on them!
SaintNick89 Posted 2 April, 2009 Posted 2 April, 2009 a place is called a city if it has a cathedral or a university. And as we have a university in southampton its a city
Arizona Posted 2 April, 2009 Author Posted 2 April, 2009 a place is called a city if it has a cathedral or a university. And as we have a university in southampton its a city Aren't Northampton a town? They've got a university. I like the name Southampton United, as we would indeed be united. However most 'United' fans (MUFC, NUFC, WHUFC etc.) seem to be W anchors. I also like the idea of a Phoenix for a nickname, but the plural doesn't really roll of the tongue. Maybe it could be on our club badge.
Saint Stimp Posted 2 April, 2009 Posted 2 April, 2009 Its gota be one of... AFC Southampton boring Southampton Saints lame Southampton St Marys lame Saint Marys lame Southampton City ...bearable I liked Southampton 1885.
David Strover Posted 2 April, 2009 Posted 2 April, 2009 Technically I think we are a town as we lack a Cathedral. May be wrong though. Wrong cathedrals have got feck all to do with cities although it's a widely held misconception. Southampton is a city because it is chartered as such.
pilsburydoughboy Posted 2 April, 2009 Posted 2 April, 2009 I don't know about the nickname but the actual name should be... SOUTHAMPTON 1885 And where Red & White stripes. And WHERE are the Red & White stripes?
David Strover Posted 2 April, 2009 Posted 2 April, 2009 a place is called a city if it has a cathedral or a university. And as we have a university in southampton its a city No it isn't.
