Who's going to take on such a debt though? I'm not so optimistic
The Worm Posted 2 April, 2009 Posted 2 April, 2009 i would support an AFC Southampton 100%, could maybe make some links with AFC Wimbledon
SaintBobby Posted 2 April, 2009 Posted 2 April, 2009 AFC Southampton 100%. Absolutely no question. Completely hope it doesn't come to that - but I'd probably become an even more fanatical Saints fan if it did. Guess you only realize how precious something is when you lose it - or are on the verge of losing it...
Window Cleaner Posted 2 April, 2009 Posted 2 April, 2009 I bloody hope so. Who's going to take on such a debt though? I'm not so optimistic Who's going to take on such a loss making concern that's the question. The only way to get someone to even be interested in taking over is to get the megabucks earners off the books once and for all. No loans, they just pick up their ticks and tacks and walk away,no pay off, no nothing. If the only way for that to happen is liquidating the club it must be considered. That applies to anyone who is earning more than the average for the CCC (even Kelvin, thanks though), what is it now about 4K/wk all found. More than that we can't handle. This needs to happen so that the next time we get a decent young player we don't start talking about selling him to "save the club" the instant he has 1 good game. Does their head in.
Webby Posted 2 April, 2009 Posted 2 April, 2009 Support Totton AFC, they're on the up. New stadium on the way an' all!
Dicko Posted 2 April, 2009 Posted 2 April, 2009 Support Totton AFC, they're on the up. New stadium on the way an' all! Yeah, I went to Wembley for the FA Vase, so Totton would get my vote However, as others have suggested, AFC Southampton would easily get off the ground
clanger Posted 2 April, 2009 Posted 2 April, 2009 Defeatist talk if I ever I heard any, SFC will be like the phoenix from the flames, even if it does get a bit singed in the process.....
St Steve Posted 2 April, 2009 Posted 2 April, 2009 Who is going to create an 'afc southampton' ? How about Soton Wanderers? How about we become a Rugby City a local derby against the London Irish would be good.
fish fingers Posted 2 April, 2009 Posted 2 April, 2009 Southampton Forest Alexandra Wednesday Rovers. It's got a good ring to it.
lee_saint Posted 2 April, 2009 Posted 2 April, 2009 I would support the 'new' club, would like it to be called Southampton St Mary's.....or Southampton Albion. The one thing I would want is the club to play in the city, would love for us to be playing somewhere near to the Dell, get a small little ground which teams wouldn't like playing at.....I'm sure we could nick the old terrace from Cardiff!
Yate Saint Posted 2 April, 2009 Posted 2 April, 2009 I would lose a bit of interest in football and maybe start supporting Bristol Rugby! But there again they aint sitting too pretty on the financial side of things either. Nor the playing for that matter. If I wanted to support a new football team i think i would have to choose a foreign club to follow. Probably Barcelona or something. I don't think i could support another English team, just wouldn't feel right.
Cabrone Posted 2 April, 2009 Posted 2 April, 2009 Probably watch my local club a bit more but my heart will be lost to football. I can't even begin to get my head around a world without SFC. Just got my Charlton ticket and am off to Watford - going to give the boys my full support now that we have our club back.
saintwarwick Posted 2 April, 2009 Posted 2 April, 2009 I'd have to find another reason to wander into town to start drinking at 13:00 stop for a few hours and watch something that could be really exciting or could be like watching paint dry and then return to a pub and continue drinking. Just cut out the middle highlighted part and stay in the pub
krissyboy31 Posted 2 April, 2009 Posted 2 April, 2009 Just cut out the middle highlighted part and stay in the pub Ah, you mean a boycott.
Andy_Porter Posted 2 April, 2009 Posted 2 April, 2009 I'd be seriously lost without southampton every Saturday, wouldn't know what to do. A couple of months in the summer is bad enough.
gonzo Posted 2 April, 2009 Posted 2 April, 2009 I would go to watch Basingstoke, as they are my local team, but I will always be a Saints supporter.
saintwarwick Posted 2 April, 2009 Posted 2 April, 2009 Leamington, 4 promotions in 8 years since reforming and currently top of their current league British Gas Midland Division. Saints won't disappear though and they will still be my first choice.
jjsaint Posted 2 April, 2009 Posted 2 April, 2009 I would buy all the top 4 kits and support whoever was top of the Prem that week. Seems to be the fashion these days.
Smirking_Saint Posted 2 April, 2009 Posted 2 April, 2009 I'd probably start coaching on a saturday again.
LGTL Posted 2 April, 2009 Posted 2 April, 2009 I wouldn't be able to support anyone else. Not Eastleigh, certainly not AFC Totton, not even Blackfield and Langley. It's Saints or nobody. I would have to concentrate on just following England I suppose.
scott_saints Posted 3 April, 2009 Author Posted 3 April, 2009 Never realise how much a bl00dy football club means to me until I think if it not even existing!!
Saint_Steve Posted 3 April, 2009 Posted 3 April, 2009 Lose interest in football and get a season ticket at the Rose Bowl
Saint Fen Posted 3 April, 2009 Posted 3 April, 2009 Couldn't support anyone else. Probably loose interest in football but hopefully there will be another Southampton start up.
sidthesquid Posted 3 April, 2009 Posted 3 April, 2009 I hope my wife isn't reading this (Highly unliklely, but you never know). For most fans it would be easier to run off with another woman and divorce your wife than switch your allegiance to another club. And likewise, it would be easier to re-marry as a widower than truly support another team. I've thought about it it over the last 24 hours, but I really couldn't do it. (If you are reading this, dear, you will be glad to know I am definitely a one woman/one football club sort of a man....)
Rory Posted 3 April, 2009 Posted 3 April, 2009 I'd support Tommy Forecast and cheer when he pays for his shopping. Back of the net!
saintwarwick Posted 3 April, 2009 Posted 3 April, 2009 Lose interest in football and get a season ticket at the Rose Bowl Good shout.
Shroppie Posted 3 April, 2009 Posted 3 April, 2009 I was slightly cheered by a friend's comment. "Whatever happens, at least we won't be Pompey"
miserableoldgit Posted 3 April, 2009 Posted 3 April, 2009 To be honest, I fell out of love with football some while ago. It is only Saints (and my memories of watching them for over 50 years) that has kept any interest alive. I am a "Saint" and always will be but I can`t be asked to watch any games on TV esp Champions League. I might go to watch Eastleigh as I live 1/2 mile from the ground but otherwise I would really love to see a Premier League Rugby Union team in our area (at SMS?). The ethos of Rugby today is almost what Footballs was many years ago.

I go and watch London Irish mate at Reading, cheap on the train, half the train station is a pub and buses leave outside to the stadium......but a team near us, nearest would be Havant who are in National 3 S I believe, although, they have got investment at the moment so could be heading up higher.
Ian the Red Posted 3 April, 2009 Posted 3 April, 2009 Couldnt support another club......... my wife would have a field day, shopping, gardening, etc etc etc etc .... oh god please, please send someone with money the alternative is to hard to bear
VectisSaint Posted 3 April, 2009 Posted 3 April, 2009 why not just call it St Marys FC! Or merge with Trojans rugby and hocky clubs to form Trojans AC! No, no, no, thats like an invitation to Lowe to come back:mad:
St Lightjaw Posted 3 April, 2009 Posted 3 April, 2009 Brentford go on the beeeeeeeeeeeeees lol!! I work with a Brentford supporter. He said we could probably get away with wearing our red and white saints tops But as most have said, the :smt049 will be gone
egreog Posted 3 April, 2009 Posted 3 April, 2009 Eastleigh would actually be a very exciting club to watch at present with a push to the Conference possible........they are on the up as Saints slip towards oblivion
angelman Posted 3 April, 2009 Posted 3 April, 2009 Lose interest in football and get a season ticket at the Rose Bowl Agree. As it is now, I far rather watch cricket than the Prem League. Can't believe Saints will fold but if they did, my local would be Bashley Town.
Spades Posted 3 April, 2009 Posted 3 April, 2009 Might even go to following portsmouth... like a reverse fan. Follow them through all their games but support the opponent
The9 Posted 3 April, 2009 Posted 3 April, 2009 I've been through all this once before, being a Newport County fan from birth until February 1989 when they when bankrupt whilst in the Conference. I had a year or so of wondering who to support whilst doing my A-Levels, then settled on Southampton as the place I wanted to do my degree, and have followed Saints since late 1991, being a season ticket holder for the last 3 seasons at St Marys when I moved back here. Even though Branfoot was manager when I started watching, I could never have envisaged this situation at this club. To answer the question "could a new team be called Southampton FC", I will point to the Conference South, in which Eastleigh share a division with Newport County AFC, formed in June 1989 as Newport AFC, their name changed to that of their predecessor a few years ago. The only issue regarding the name is whether you want all the history of the old club hanging about. At least a new Southampton team wouldn't get barred from their ground by the council and get banned from playing in their country by the FA... As for the "what would you do?" question, I'd probably go back to ground-hopping - when I could be bothered to go to a match at all. And I'd definitely pitch up in the away end at Fratton a few times, used to do that in the early 90s too.
rallyboy Posted 3 April, 2009 Posted 3 April, 2009 Newport and Saints? The9 you really are a lucky charm! But fear not, a new club can rise and be called Rupert Rovers, wearing a traditional red and white shirt and yellow cords, nickname - 'the financial whizzkids', and a new club badge, a flying duck atop a bloke with ruddy cheeks sucking on the barrel of a twelve bore.
martel Posted 3 April, 2009 Posted 3 April, 2009 who would you support? Would you be a neutral? Lose interest in football? I wouldn't ever be able to support another team so I think I may lose nearly all interest in football. (I don't think it will happen.....just thinking of worst case scenario) Should this happen then I would drop football alltogether, their is no other team to support for me, Southampton was the city I was raised in. I unlike some cannot find any interest in supporting a club Like Man utd, I would though concentrate some efforts into a new web site that I am planning. My view is and this is a personal view, that the FA, Sky sports and all their pals are in part responcible for our clubs demise. Yes we have had nothing but internal problems since we dropped out of the premier league in 2005, however, lets face it what is the point in getting to the premier league unless you can get bank rolled by massive amounts of money. All any club like our is going to do is pray for survival, sorry but I cannot get excited about that; therefore the web site I am planning will be titled FOOTBALL FOR THE FANS, with a sole objective of removing the top six to eight clubs from the premier league into a super European league. Sure it is a long shot, but when you take every league below that of the premier, then their is a lot of fans with ambition who just might think it is a good idea; Basically costs have to be brought down, in particular players wages, when you look at the figures even for the likes of the new borns, Chelsea, Man City etc, they would be long gone into Admin if not for a huge benefactor. So I would have a return to Div's one, two three and four tie up some t.v. deals, ban the top existing prem clubs from of course the Carling cup and the FA cup, and bring some excitement back into the game, remember when forest got promoted and won the league in their first season (I think) Derby county also getting promoted and winning things, this was not done with stupid amounts of money, it was done purely through good management and a financially strong club because the costs were so much lower, common sense has to return at some point and see no reason why the super rich players of the premiership should contiue living in a false world.
teamsaint Posted 3 April, 2009 Posted 3 April, 2009 really don't think I would have the heart to support another team.
samoakley Posted 3 April, 2009 Posted 3 April, 2009 It wont happen but if it does the AFC Southampton Team that should be made up we should surley be aloud in a wessex or southen league and were win all the time and attract the best players in non league and be in the VC within 4-5 years.
