ladysaint Posted 1 April, 2009 Posted 1 April, 2009 and come and save us from obscurity, his club needs him, not sure what he could do but surely there is something.
BadgerBadger Posted 1 April, 2009 Posted 1 April, 2009 No and no again - it would never work, he's better off on the fringes
alpine_saint Posted 1 April, 2009 Posted 1 April, 2009 Needs to steer well clear. Whatever stance he would take would polarise support amongst our deeply-divided fan base.
Jackie@home Posted 1 April, 2009 Posted 1 April, 2009 Knowing Matt, he has much more sense. Besides, I can't see what he could do to make things better - he's not that rich.
Colinjb Posted 1 April, 2009 Posted 1 April, 2009 I'm sure he would love to, sadly he is also a realist and knows he is a) too nice to be an effective manager and b) isn't rich or ruthless enough to save us at board level.
trousers Posted 1 April, 2009 Posted 1 April, 2009 Nope, unless he's made himself some Arab friends MLT hasn't but Hoddle's Academy has....
londonsaint1604 Posted 1 April, 2009 Posted 1 April, 2009 and come and save us from obscurity, his club needs him, not sure what he could do but surely there is something. I'd be surprised if Shearer actually does any good at Newcastle.
Window Cleaner Posted 1 April, 2009 Posted 1 April, 2009 Probably not as he's never been arsed (his words not mine) to obtain even the most basic coaching certificate. He did start once but found it boring and didn't finish it.Unless he's done it lately of course but I fancy not.
Window Cleaner Posted 1 April, 2009 Posted 1 April, 2009 I'd be surprised if Shearer actually does any good at Newcastle. He's in a win/win situation, if they don't go down he's the geordie messiah as usual. If they do go down it will be the fault of Ashley/Kinnear/MacDonald's/Gordon Brown because he didn't have enough time to turn it around.
david in sweden Posted 1 April, 2009 Posted 1 April, 2009 and come and save us from obscurity, his club needs him, not sure what he could do but surely there is something. I'm not sure that I even believe the Shearer story TBH, after all it is April 1st and he's refused the job many times before. As for MLT, he's a legend in his own right, let's leave it there.. Can anyone really see him making players train harder..when he was the " easiest-going " (synonym for lazy) player we've had in the last 30 years .. but a great goal scorer. Hire him as part time coach to show the youngsters how to take penalties and free kicks, that's a good investment of his skills , but not as manager.
ladysaint Posted 1 April, 2009 Author Posted 1 April, 2009 No I agree wouldnt want him as manager but as some sort of ambassador for the club and the fans.
mirra Posted 1 April, 2009 Posted 1 April, 2009 Huge rumour going round Glasgow that Celtic are in discussions about a takeover. It gets them into the English League & they see it as a route to the Premier & the money. WGS more than happy to come back & manage. Celtic leave a "second" team in the Scottish League & that gets it more competitive. It's seen as the reason Celtic didn't spend during January & they now have less than £1m debt. Could be interesting......

Saint Stimp Posted 1 April, 2009 Posted 1 April, 2009 I'd much rather he'd round up some well off mates, take us over and become chairman.
SW11_Saint Posted 1 April, 2009 Posted 1 April, 2009 and come and save us from obscurity, his club needs him, not sure what he could do but surely there is something. We need more than Matt unfortuantely - big bucks and some real business acumen. In other news, I see another of our old boys, Iain Dowie is off to Newcastle to be Alan Shearers #2.
Killer Posted 1 April, 2009 Posted 1 April, 2009 I've heard that Saints are going into admin, and will get a 15 point deduction, Wotte to be sacked and replaced with MLT. From somebody close to Lowe

Capel Saint Posted 1 April, 2009 Posted 1 April, 2009 Would be a risk to appoint a man with no management experience. Great players do not necessarily make great managers. A whole different set of skills required to do a managers job.
SaintJimbo Posted 1 April, 2009 Posted 1 April, 2009 He wA ON TALK SPORT just before 6, he was asked same question, he said no to it
Ponty Posted 1 April, 2009 Posted 1 April, 2009 Unless you mean leave Sky for MotD then I sincerely hope not. I couldn't stand to see him fail.
Dicko Posted 1 April, 2009 Posted 1 April, 2009 With Saints being in such a desperate situation, his appointment might be quite canny. He'd unite the fans and give them hope
NickG Posted 1 April, 2009 Posted 1 April, 2009 notice Newcastle still not confirmed it -perhaps Shearer has decided to buy us instead!
Dalek2003 Posted 1 April, 2009 Posted 1 April, 2009 Maybe, or could Glenn be persuaded to come back ?
miserableoldgit Posted 1 April, 2009 Posted 1 April, 2009 Maybe, or could Glenn be persuaded to come back ? I think that the comedy value has now gone out of this and it`s now becoming tiresome.
Dalek2003 Posted 1 April, 2009 Posted 1 April, 2009 I think that the comedy value has now gone out of this and it`s now becoming tiresome. This is not a joke, it is a realistic option.
egreog Posted 1 April, 2009 Posted 1 April, 2009 Ummmmm . no....... and the Shearer move won't work either...... playing legens rarely succeed massively at the club they played for........ trying to think of one success!!
captain sensible Posted 1 April, 2009 Posted 1 April, 2009 Ummmmm . no....... and the Shearer move won't work either...... playing legens rarely succeed massively at the club they played for........ trying to think of one success!! Ted Bates?
N/West Saint Posted 1 April, 2009 Posted 1 April, 2009 I always thought Channon would invest in saints. He must know some really rich guys.
egreog Posted 1 April, 2009 Posted 1 April, 2009 with Ted Bates you could be right........was he a playing legend though?.......he was as a manager of course
ooohTerryHurlock Posted 1 April, 2009 Posted 1 April, 2009 But look what Nial Quinn has done at Sunderland - The popular figure head of a consortium. MLT would surely fit this bill - knows and love s the club. Unifys the fans and a great front man. This would be my preffered role for him. BTW - Too many people are quick to write him off as a potential manager. We need someone to believe in and some one to give us hope - MLT has always done that...to be quite honest he could still play at the level we are at now... not the whole game of course!
mynameisthehulk Posted 2 April, 2009 Posted 2 April, 2009 This is not a joke, it is a realistic option. Yes it is, no its not.
