I'm off to an evening do with Lawrie McMenemy on Thursday, followed by a Q&A...anyone got any questions??

My first one...

If you had to sum up Rupert Lowe in one word, what would it be??

£10 says he doesn't reply with 'Visionary'...!!

I reckon 'Pea Fritter' - can imagine him saying that.

It depends how acclimatised he's become to the South. They don't have them in Yorkshire.

Speaking as a Saints fan for almost 50 years .. I think we accept that Lawrie has done as much for the clubs success (in his time,) as any other (perhaps along with Ted Bares) and I respect him for it (regardless of critics) but we all make mistakes. My favourite personal quote in life is :

" the man who never made a mistake - never made anything " (otherwise we haven't learned anything - would we?)

There must be some decisions that Lawrie regrets in his time, so I wonder what he might admit to ? ....and sorry Lawrie, I don't buy this ... " if I had to go back again I wouldn't change a thing " type of response.

Be honest please; What (wrong) decisions do you regret most in your career / life ? . I respect an honest answer.

AND : (a) the move to Sunderland..? (b) Were Saints "cheated" when we bought Charlie George 1979 and then found out about his dodgy knee afterwards.. and he couldn't play for 6 months. ?

(it was almost like deja vu when we signed Delgado 20 years later!)

© should we have kept Paine and Channon EVEN longer than we did ?.

best regards to Lawrie...... David Cross Stockholm Sweden.

Ask him does he think in restrospect that the club paid him too large a salary for his

ambassadorial work. This is in view of the financial mess the club now finds itself in.

Also ask him would he ever put any money into the club to save it.

If anyone reads the above post, and takes umbrage as a Mcmenemy lover, if Lowe

and his cronies go for ever, I will probably get a season ticket even if we go down.

So I will in my own way be doing my bit for the club.[ This is not the easiest thing

for me to do as I have not worked for 4 years due to being made disabled by a life

threatening illness].

Ouch that's a difficult post to respond to. Very sorry to hear your personal news.

I've said the same about Lawrie Mac myself before (the quip about the Air Florida villa did make me laugh...) but at the end of the day I think I'd prefer to remember him for the good times.

The point is that most people who get themselves involved in big clubs (and ones like Saints) have a similar personality. A ****tail of business acumen, arrogance, big ego's, vanity, greed - all mixed up with a few lesser qualities. The final mix could produce a Jack Walker just as easily as a Rupert Lowe. Many posters on here who constantly try and put down the Lowe Luvvies or defend Rupert without reservation almost fall into the same category.

I think we have to accept the way of the world is - its all about back scratching, nest lining, devious dealings and so on. We need to get over it. Get down there Saturday,. Enjoy the football and maybe even a good result. I bet you a win will see me downing a few pints on saturday night and I will not give a toss about Rup, Lawrie or anyone else.

What caused the ' scuffle' in the showers with mark tight?

The media quote that LM gave at the time was:

Is it true Laurie that you fainted when Mark put in a transfer request in the changing rooms ?

LM reply:

Yes it is,I fainted to my left and hit him with my right.

It was typical of the humour LM had with the media.

How much do you think he got for those shares? It would certainly not be a fortune - probably equivalent to the average 'pension pot'. An amount that would make not a jot of difference to the current situation.

Ask him why, when he was complaining about being "frozen out" of the club during Rupey's time as chairman, he didn't just go and buy a ticket like the rest of us?

Well, apologies first as I did post some feedback, but on another thread.

Lawrie was very entertaining, seeing as we were in a room of Sailing Club members he had to mix up football stories with other sporting ones.

I got to speak to him afterwards and he did say that the situation at the club was much worse than they ever thought it would be. They (I assume he meant him and Leon) had been at the club I believe.

Didn't slag Lowe off, just basically said (as he did on TV) that the time for blame had passed, the club can hopefully go back to the 'family club' that it once was.

He did get asked a question about 'What do you think about commercialisation in Football' to which he replied 'I don't know what you're on about!!'.

Managed to get a question in, asking him how he managed to keep the Keegan signing a secret - apparently it involved many phone calls, and a hotel in Knightsbridge...and a hallway light from Germany (Keegan was in Hamburg as you may remember!).

TBF I'm sure Lawrie has his flaws (don't we all) but I don't really care - he's the only manager in our history to deliver silverware and as such he has been someone I've looked up to since childhood, standing on a stool in the Milton End.

Leon was there as well, had a table with LPE. Didn't get chance to chat.
