NickG Posted 31 March, 2009 Posted 31 March, 2009 In CCC awards this week, Oscar Gobern was in the top 3 for the award for top apprentices in the CCC.
NickG Posted 31 March, 2009 Author Posted 31 March, 2009 Name: Oscar Gobern Age: 18 Club: Southampton Nationality: English Position: Midfielder An attacking midfielder who loves to run at defenders and the latest product of Southampton’s much-lauded academy system. The Birmingham-born midfielder has had a baptism of fire at St Mary’s where he has found himself playing in a very inexperienced team at the wrong end of the Championship table. However, his debut for Saints couldn’t have gone much better. Coming on as a half time substitute with his side two down at Preston, Gobern inspired a great comeback. Having a hand in two of Southampton’s goals as they came back to record a three two victory. He has gone on to make a handful more appearances for the club and while things may look bleak for them the future looks bright for Oscar.
Arizona Posted 31 March, 2009 Posted 31 March, 2009  I take it the panel were only at the PNE away game?
Andy_Porter Posted 31 March, 2009 Posted 31 March, 2009 He's looked decent every time i've seen him, can certainly see the potential. It's not often you see people his age as big and strong as him, his first touch is really good as well. I remember seeing him play against Eastliegh in a pre season friendly and he looked decent then. Who where the other two 18 year olds?

NickG Posted 31 March, 2009 Author Posted 31 March, 2009 Players eligible for this award are those in the second year of their apprentice (i.e are in their 'Under 18' year and registered as either a second year scholar or as a first year professional). Judges looked at the record of the player in all competitions since he became an apprentice alongside his educational attainment, disciplinary record and any other outstanding achievements.
Ludwig Posted 31 March, 2009 Posted 31 March, 2009 Ross Jenkins (Watford) and Shaun Scannell (Palace) - Scannell won. Jenkins really is a good prospect, imo.
sambosa75 Posted 31 March, 2009 Posted 31 March, 2009 Interesting. I think Kayne McGlaggon looks a brighter prospect. Lets hope Oscar (and Kayne) keep on progressing and fulfil their potentials.
Sold To The Man @ The Bar Posted 31 March, 2009 Posted 31 March, 2009 I sat next to Oscar's mum at Brum away this year, in the away section (not corp) very nice lady ...

Sold To The Man @ The Bar Posted 31 March, 2009 Posted 31 March, 2009 worth a poke? What do you think? She spent most of the second half looking at your back while you stood and swayed about ... you drunken bum
