scott_saints Posted 27 March, 2009 Share Posted 27 March, 2009 The other thread has made me ask you good people for your opinions. There's a group of us (Early 20s) that are drinking far too much, not doing any exercise, and eating junk food on a regular basis. We've recently come up with a genius plan where all of us would by a bike each and go out for "lads" cycling days. Is this a ghey idea? Would we need to stop off at pubs etc to make the cycling trips more manly? Would the cycling cancel out beer/fags that are consumed whilst on said cycling trips? Special K Posted 27 March, 2009 Share Posted 27 March, 2009 Good idea. Me and a few mates took up cycling a few years back but we went for some semi serious rides on teh road bikes all dressed up in teh ghey lycra and that. Helps with the fitness. notnowcato Posted 27 March, 2009 Share Posted 27 March, 2009 Set yourself a challenge. I've put myself down for the South Downs Way randonne... 100 miles across the downs from Winchester to Eastbourne in a day - lycra optional. The British Heart Foundation organise it. I'm currently cra*ing myself about it.

Lets B Avenue Posted 27 March, 2009 Share Posted 27 March, 2009 We do a bike ride pub crawl every summer. Used to go by train to places like Oxford, Chichester, Weymouth and go from there. Bloody trains now cant take 15-20 bikes so we are stuck going local. Can be quite dangerous by evening time!

Minty Posted 27 March, 2009 Share Posted 27 March, 2009 If you're doing any kind of distance, you won't care how it looks, you WILL want to wear cycling shorts or something comfortable and appropriate. Either that or buy a big fat ladies gel saddle, cos if you don't, your ar$e will know about it after awhile. Anyway, you can get perfectly decent cycling shorts that have 'normal' shorts that clip over them, so no one can really tell.

I also purchased some linen trousers for the summer, if its hot i will be wearing them to work. Is this a problem? Whats wrong with aviators or cardigans ??? Nothing Alot!! Gudz Posted 29 March, 2009 Share Posted 29 March, 2009 Going in a group of lads? Whatever floats your boat. Go with a mixed group, much better. I do a fair bit of distance cycling and thoroughly recommend it. I have some mates who come along plus I advertise on facebook & gumtree for people to join us. Just got back from Brighton an hour ago having taken a group there from Victoria this morning, knackered but well worth it. The feeling of accomplishment is great, the banter is a good laugh, meeting new people is always a good craic, the pub stop a must & the phone number for the cute Auzzie brunette I took on the train home will be dialled tomorrow lunchtime! ;-) Also, you can save ****loads if you can talk your boss into signing up for the Cycle To Work scheme, 40-50% off bikes & equipment. Sorts me out a right treat & I work from home!

Cosham Scientist Posted 30 March, 2009 Share Posted 30 March, 2009 I need a new bike. I like the look of these with the carbon belt drive: http://falk-bikes.de/frame.php?MakeLang=english&MakeLangID=2&lay1=3&lay2=2&lay3=4&lay4=1&prodid=08FR54 Actually with the optional Rohloff hub that's probably more than two grand...
