I suppose this will be seen as humerous and laughed off because it was against white people.not that the comments both me but imagine the outcry if it was said about blacks.

Yes, we're both white.

Doesn't sound so bad now, eh?

Why does race and racism ALWAYS bring the worst out in some people?

I am taking bets as to how many posts will this get to before it's locked.

Maybe we should have a racism forum?

I dont want this to degenerate inot real racism, but do feel it would be good to know where the boundaries are if the boot is on the other foot.Being a white blue eyed person should i feel affronted by the words or not worry.I dont worry as I have said but also know there is no way I could say the opposite without fingers being pointed in disgust

If you brought on the banking crisis then you should feel affronted, if you did not, don't worry.

Don't think it would be wise for us to follow the over sensitive route others take, where would it stop ?

So are we discussing whether the comment was racist, or are we discussing whether the economy of the world is actually controlled by wealthy white men (albeit a bit of a generalisation, I suspect he was not far from the truth). And should we not be discussing whether he was being sexist too?

I think that there was a programme on TV a while ago about "wealthy white men" controlling the Worlds economies. Anyone else see it? Link?

"world is actually controlled by wealthy white men" a dangerous area as it could also turn into anti semetic debate

I could add to this debate but i won't.

Sometimes the silence is deafening stanley. The G12/20 (whatever it is) demo's could be interesting. The protesters don't really give the impression that they represent the average person in the street.

POf course it was racist.

The fact that it has some gernalised truth makes no difference, because the vast majority of men with white skin and blue eyes did not cause it. If he wants to criticise Western banking systems and practise, fine. - yet bringing matters of race into it implies it is because of the race. Clearly an absurd statement.

Personally i believe that it is racist, will anything be done however..... no i believe not.

Unfortunately that is the society of today, some things are jumped on as being completely unpolitically correct and unproportionate actions are taken where as others are not.

Personally i believe the whole politically correct/racist/health and safety etc etc world we live in to be so hypocritical as to be damaging. The world is on it's head, the world is a mess.

obviously that is just my opinion

If that was said by a Blue eyed white man, about a Black...

It would be just as retarded as racist. And THAT is the problem. Why on earth would you consider that acceptable behaviour? It has nothing to to with this rather over-used loonie-left rubbish, it has to do with basic civility and respect for each other.

Well...you're entitled to your opinion, but I'll just beg to differ, I base this on day to day happenings, as reported in the media, and general conversation. Again IMO it has everything to do with the lefties, we have a majority being ruled by a minority, and that is fact, and you and I both know it. Check out the teachers, check out the local councils, check out our Judges...etc etc etc, our gutless goverment.

But even if there are a lot of white blue eyed people in charge of the companies that caused the crisis and even if most of the governments of the countries in which the crisis started consist mainly of white blue eyed people that does not mean there is a causal relation between their race and the creation of this crisis. To make that isinuation is racist and it is just not acceptable.

That is an interesting point you make there. Can you imagine the global outcry had the PM of Brazil suggested that it was the influence of Zionist bankers etc to blame ?

The downturn can be blamed on a number of factors - but, the collateral debt obligations from the sophisticated American finance system being mixed into other unsophisticated systems led to turmoil. The actual CDOs themselves based on the bad debts, which we reaped the benefits from the debt-securitisation a few years ago, but are paying the price for that now. Hiding the losses in a box and inflating your earnings doesn't mean that the losses aren't there - this could be blamed upon the Americans with packaging up their sub-prime mortgages in CDOs that were not repayable. White middle classes trading in these and increasing exposure to such bad debts - granted by Americans for the benefit of Americans, can only be a problem created by whites? Surely the sub-prime mortgage crisis can be held as the basis upon which current events unfolded and have led to the situation we find ourselves in? Then it can only be a problem from the whites.... although we could then go to blaming East Asians for saving too much, but then that opens questions over whether foreign-credit-fuelled consumption is actually any good for us and Asian countries saving after their crash in '97 are simply more prudent. That we're not learning any lessons at all - and are instead creating bubbles upon which we 'improve our lives' - if these bubbles are unsustainable (which they are) surely this is an action that shouldn't be taken and there should've been more regulation over the mortgage market. Doesn't this sort of show that the events leading upto the current world downturn was as a result of white middle-class greed - surely then the Brazilian PM is justified in his comments. Is a person not allowed to blame a certain type of person for crimes/offences that only that type of person has committed? I don't think he's being racist, but is criticising the institutional greed inherent in the 'white' West - mainly America, but us too.

There is a causal link between the materialistic nature of white western society and the events leading to the situation we find ourselves in. I see no problem in making such a statement. It's not just the govts - it's all our faults as well, for wanting to buy a new car, a new house etc. but paying for it by the means of loans that are often beyond our financial reach. It's the lower classes - who have a higher marginal propensity to consumer, who buy expensive things beyond their financial means and the culture that encourages them to live a materialistic hedonistic lifestyle, in which having the latest thing is the best thing. This culture has been created, propogated and consumed by the white west - they are to blame.
