Ziggy Posted 26 March, 2009 Posted 26 March, 2009 I'm off to the Ricoh Stadium to watch Cardiff Blues (rugby union team) in the EDF Cup semi-final. I'm sure there are some tickets left over if you fancy it!
Saint in Paradise Posted 26 March, 2009 Posted 26 March, 2009 You will be OK next season as Leaque 1 play matches as they don't stop for an International break.
SNSUN Posted 26 March, 2009 Posted 26 March, 2009 Love them. It's not possible to lose. It gives us the respite of the rollercoaster ride that is Saints for two weeks.

Windmill Arm 2 Posted 26 March, 2009 Posted 26 March, 2009 Bl**dy hate em. I like them, it means Southampton FC ceases to be the total laughing stock of european football for a week or so.
Arizona Posted 26 March, 2009 Posted 26 March, 2009 I like them, it means Southampton FC ceases to be the total laughing stock of european football for a week or so. Hate to burst your bubble, but most fans outside the bottom half of CCC couldn't give a sh*t about Saints. Do you go to work in the mornings and talk about how crap Leeds and Charlton are?
Rattlehead Posted 26 March, 2009 Posted 26 March, 2009 Oh come off it, Real Madrid, AC Milan and Bayern Munich fans must be laughing their t*ts off at Saints right now. Saints is the first other result they look for.

I see your point, but I dont go to work and talk about Paris Hilton very often, It doesn't stop me from thinking she's pathetic and a bit of a joke.
Whitey Grandad Posted 26 March, 2009 Posted 26 March, 2009 I hate them too. We never had them when we won the World Cup. The England team has never played well since we started having them. In fact, we've never been any good since Joe Mercer was in charge.
new_zealand_saint Posted 26 March, 2009 Posted 26 March, 2009 I love them...am off to Wembley to see England v Slovakia first visit to the new Wembley should be more exciting than watching saints!

Whenever I've spoken to anyone about Saints (in England or Scotland) they usually say something like, "oh you're not doing to well at the moment are you?" When all's said and done, there are at least a dosen clubs in England badly underperforming. I don't think we stand out as being worse than Charlton, Leeds, Middlesborough, Newcastle, Pompey, West Brom or Norwich. It's only people in the UK who really have any idea about Saints current plight at all. Laughing stock of European football is a ridiculous overstatement IMO.

hamster Posted 27 March, 2009 Posted 27 March, 2009 There's always Eastleigh. Home to AFC Wimbledon this weekend, already sold more than 1,300 tickets and expectng to top 2,500 as the Dons have a v big following. http://www.eastleigh-fc.co.uk/ Bairdy has just been given an extension too. Well done Ian
scott_saints Posted 27 March, 2009 Posted 27 March, 2009 Random question- As leauge one and below don't stop for international breaks...... has an England player ever been chosen from one of these leagues?
The Godfather Posted 27 March, 2009 Posted 27 March, 2009 Random question- As leauge one and below don't stop for international breaks...... has an England player ever been chosen from one of these leagues? Its not just about english players, its other players from different countries that get called up who play for some lower league clubs. Yes the Peterboro goalkeeper has been called up to train with the England Squad before.
scott_saints Posted 27 March, 2009 Posted 27 March, 2009 Its not just about english players, its other players from different countries that get called up who play for some lower league clubs. Yes the Peterboro goalkeeper has been called up to train with the England Squad before. This is why I asked specifically about English players, because it was obvious that players of other nationalities would have been picked from these leagues.
stkev7 Posted 27 March, 2009 Posted 27 March, 2009 I love them...am off to Wembley to see England v Slovakia first visit to the new Wembley should be more exciting than watching saints! I wouldn't say I love them but it does make a nice distraction. I'm off to Wembley tomorrow and on Wednesday but in fairness tomorrow will be rubbish as it's a pointless friendly. Just don't expect an atmosphere at Wembley, sure it's a nice stadium but if you're after atmosphere you'll be disappointed.

I've not been to the new Wembley yet, only the old one. (Best and Idiakez's fault! )
Whitey Grandad Posted 27 March, 2009 Posted 27 March, 2009 Why is that Kev? Too big? I've not been to the new Wembley yet, only the old one. (Best and Idiakez's fault! ) I would blame Pele before those two, if I were to blame anybody.
St Marco Posted 27 March, 2009 Posted 27 March, 2009 It's a nice little break from the nail bitting high pressure stuff we are currently in. The thing is after this break we go into hardcore mode, we have to play 5 games in 14 days. 3 games in 6 days starting next saturday. A very busy schedule that will obviously have us in the hunt or down. So a week without having to give a **** is always nice
Deano6 Posted 27 March, 2009 Posted 27 March, 2009 I bloody hate it. I have literally nothing to do this weekend. I'm gonn have to drag myself off to watch the England game, even tho I'm not really interested.
West End Saint Posted 27 March, 2009 Posted 27 March, 2009 I agree I hate it & I am not looking forward to the end of the season even though this season has been p i s s poor I cant stand cricket I love my Saturdays at Footy I will be a nightmare until the new season
um pahars Posted 27 March, 2009 Posted 27 March, 2009 Random question- As leauge one and below don't stop for international breaks...... has an England player ever been chosen from one of these leagues? I know Wolves were in Div 3 when Steve Bull played for England, but that was obviously a few years back!!! And the other problem is England U-21's normally play at the same time and quite a few of their players have come from the lower leagues (e.g. Fabian Delph at Leeds, Joe Lewis for Peterborugh)
Stu Man Do Posted 27 March, 2009 Posted 27 March, 2009 I would blame Pele before those two, if I were to blame anybody. Pele cost us one goal .... Bestie cost us two so go figure ;-)
stkev7 Posted 27 March, 2009 Posted 27 March, 2009 Why is that Kev? Too big? I've not been to the new Wembley yet, only the old one. (Best and Idiakez's fault! ) Well tomorrow with it being a pointless friendly there is nothing really to get us fans excited. Slovakia are hardly the most thrilling of teams to play, admittedly all other major international sides are in qualifiers. The Ukraine game will be a bit more lively in the stands though. I also think Wembley suffers from the 'new stadium syndrome' where by atmosphere takes a few years to really get going... not that SMS had any problems.

saintwarwick Posted 27 March, 2009 Posted 27 March, 2009 I see your point, but I dont go to work and talk about Paris Hilton very often, It doesn't stop me from thinking she's pathetic and a bit of a joke. Paris Hilton and SFC are two completely different products with the exception of one is talentless with lots of money whilst the other is talentless and is skint.
Fan The Flames Posted 27 March, 2009 Posted 27 March, 2009 Hate to burst your bubble, but most fans outside the bottom half of CCC couldn't give a sh*t about Saints. Do you go to work in the mornings and talk about how crap Leeds and Charlton are? Funnily enough I had just that conversation this very morning with a colleague who is a Charlton fan worried about going down and not coing straight back up just ike Leeds.
Arizona Posted 28 March, 2009 Posted 28 March, 2009 I didn't mean for you to take it so personally, simmer down love. That makes no sense what-so-ever.
Kingsbridge Saint Posted 28 March, 2009 Posted 28 March, 2009 Waste of time. No one cares about international football. Even Gerrard. Witness his lame attempt at closing down the Croat before he put England out of Euro 2008. If he can't be arsed neither can I.
krissyboy31 Posted 28 March, 2009 Posted 28 March, 2009 I like them TBH. Gives me a weekend away from the razor blades and the rope.
Whitey Grandad Posted 28 March, 2009 Posted 28 March, 2009 Pele cost us one goal .... Bestie cost us two so go figure ;-) Ah, but Best's second was after extra time which would not have been necessary were it not for the 'Pelenalty'. But I'm not bitter. No, really, I'm not :---)
brmbrm Posted 28 March, 2009 Posted 28 March, 2009 Still bl**dy hate em What? Didn't you enjoy the Wales- Finland commentary on radio 5 live? Good way of catching up on your sleep.
jawillwill Posted 28 March, 2009 Posted 28 March, 2009 Which stand are you in? Behind the posts in South. I've never seen a team dominate so much and get beaten by such a big scoreline (to nil as well ). Couldn't be arsed to stay for the Blues match!

Couldn't be arsed to stay for the Blues match! Agree with the Ospreys comment. I stayed for the Blues game and we were hanging on at the end despite dominating most areas of the pitch.
exeter_saint Posted 29 March, 2009 Posted 29 March, 2009 its much better to be elsewhere in europe when its on imo such as here in copenhagen, where you can pick up a good 6 or so international games on the tv that day(including england v slovakia), unlike england where its exclusively the home nations and only on sky. Meant i could enjoy seein nilsson and svensson fustrate ronaldo and co after the england match! Off to see denmark v albania on wed, i get bored watching england
St Marco Posted 29 March, 2009 Posted 29 March, 2009 One good thing about this international break is that if Scotland fail to win on weds i will probably win my bet that Burley would be sacked before the end of the qualifiers. Will win £20
