Worrying comments by Wotte re Reserves

Particularly worrying is this comment:

 

"They will have to show up at training today and the day after and I hope they can show themselves in another manner on Monday evening.

 

"My first statement when I came here and every time we play a game was to say 'mentality always comes first' and this time I didn't see the right mentality."

 

For goodness sake, have we got to the point when some players don't always attend training? Saints teams recently have started matches very poorly - no sense of urgency. Poor passing etc. Is there still a lackadaisical attitude throughout the squad? Don't they realise the seriousness of the situation?

I think it shows the reality of how poor our squad is and the back up players aren't upto it.

I think the first team since Wotte came in can be accused of much but not a lack of effort. As for the reserves I can't say, but the times we have come from behind away from home show that I think the first team has the desire and committment, its the skill which is questionable.

 

Also, IMO good to hear Wotte kick some arse!

I think that you are taking him a tad literally here. I suspect that he means turn up for training mentally as well as physically. Still it is a bit worrying. If mentality is wrong then ability borders on irrelevant.

Well they are paid professionals, and we expect better. They should realise this.

That's 9 goals conceded and none scored in the last two matches against Reading and Brighton. My impression is that the Academy maybe isn't as strong either, although this may be because youngsters are being pushed through earlier. We appear to be seeing a general weakening of the playing staff from first team downwards.

This is one of the dangers of 'bigging up' those players as exceptional and good enough to play in the CCC...

 

Another Lowe masterstroke....looks like his PR escapades from this season are beginning to come back and bite him on the ar$e.

I remember watching the Reserves lose 5-0 to Brighton and none of those players looked interested; not even MLT. He didn't look much of a player either. Just before THAT game against Newcastle, I think it was.

 

Anyway, whose job is it to motivate them. Sack that man who, by his own admission, has singularly failed to do so!

It was a squad with no creative ability whatsoever and defenders who won't ever get a look in at first team level if they don't undergo 100% improvement.

It was a crap side, probably one of the worst reserve sides we've ever put out.

Gobern has gone right off the boil since he scored for the first team,may have got injured though..

Last time i saw him play as a sub at Birmingham he was rubbish. Saints were effectively playing with ten men when he came on. Previously saw him on right wing at home to Reading when being in the Itchen stand i and many others witnessed his useless display.

The worrying thing about this - if you read the report in The Echo - is that it seems to insinuate that Gorre was more disappointed with the performance as the players had the ADDED incentive of having Wotte in the stands.

 

I suppose that's why Wotte has launched this public attack on the kids.

 

Does last night illustrate the lack of respect the players have for Wotte? or...

 

Are our kids really just crap?

Whatever the reason, I am not sure public humiliation of individual players is necessary or breeds team spirit and morale, honestly Wotte will be criticising the fans next!

Charlie - our team would not compete in the 3rd Division now mate let alone WHEN our men leave in the summer due to the way they've been managed this season - I have been watching strugglers Swindon occassionally and both performances I saw were genuinely better than all the Saints performances I have witnessed this season (didnt go to Ipswich mind).

I am Head coach/Stuperts fag...."I am the main man, this is not good enough and will not be tolerated by Stupert or myself ".(quote from Dean Gorfull..'we will learn more from this drubbing by Brighton'!!)

The 'revolutionary coaching set-up' after 10 months produces such results....wow....why doesnt every club engage it? Answers on a postage stamp before we get relegated please.....Mr Chocolate...you have had had since June...training all together in a ' revolutionary way', morning, noon and night...with a coaching team that rotates (although a couple are rotating around their potted plants,borders and lawns:rolleyes:) and now you criticise the players you have had under your wing

Fiddling while Rome burns springs to mind!!!

You can distance yourself as much as you want from the person you joined the club with in June 2008, but you are culpable just as much as he (and where is he now...did Stupert help him with the fine at Helmond, did JP get a pay off to include the fine, is he on gardening leave?) when you waltzed around the pre-season friendlies at JP's shoulder, then backed off quicker than an Italian tank at war when the results went pear shaped.

I am sure that you think you are actually doing well but unfortunately this is a results business and the sad truth is that you and your mentor/route to a salary have very poor credentials.

Wrap your scarf loosely now cos it will be a lot tighter by the first week in May.
