Negotiating contracts with out of contract players

Ok, I feel I should clarify RE: the wage thing. I was refering to the players who left at the end of last season, who's wages were crippling the club, compared to who will be left on large contracts come the end of this season.

Surman, that's a fair point. Also I'm guesing Dyer is on fair whack as we got rid of him a couple of weeks after he signed a new contract. Personally I'd like to keep Surman, but Dyer is far to inconsistent to justify that wage.

I agree with your second and third paragraphs. If we go down we may have to lose Rasiak and/or Saga to soften the impact of the reduced income. There is no way we should consider keeping BWP or Euell on the wages they're on.

I've said this before, but if it's a choice between Rasiak and Euell, Rasiak every time. 3-5 good games a year from Euell just isn't enough.

I forgot Dyer will be coming back. If he is on 5k a week thats £60k to cover his wages for the summer alone not to mention Rasiak and Skacel who inevitably will leave on the last day of the window.

Even if we survive ST income is going to go down so I think that pretty much guarentees that Euell and BWP won't be offered contracts. I fear that tough decsions on Perry and Davis WILL have to be made. If we are relegated the board are going to have to gamble that Forecast and Lancashire will hold their own at that level - and they might be right.

I don't want Skacel to leave either, but he's handed in a transfer request and I can't see Lowe going overboard trying to convince him to stay.

Lallana and Surman have both been ineffective of late, Lallana especially, but I feel both have the potential to be very good players if they get their collective a*ses in gear.

Dyer is inconsistent and Holmes is always injured. I don't think there will be many games when both are playing and playing well.

I agree with all of that. I think people need to cut Lallana and Surman a bit more slack. Surman has been way off his best recently but overall he has played well especially when first moved back to left midfield. I am not sure if he is quite good enough yet to play centre midfield but with Gillett behind him rather than say Schneidelin he might be worth another look. He certainly works harder than McGoldrick who does not do nearly enough in that head of the diamond position.

Lallana was a revelation at the start of the season when played where McGoldrick is now. When moved out wide he was less effective and the injury seems to have set him back miles. He does not look fit at all and out wide he is totally wasted. He does not have the pace required to hurt defenders but if played in the Totti role where he sees the ball all the time he will prove a tremendous asset.
