Dog Posted 28 November, 2008 Posted 28 November, 2008 Does that work then? Col. Yes, it's bloody good too. Makes you turn worzel.
red&white4life Posted 28 November, 2008 Posted 28 November, 2008 Yes, it's bloody good too. Makes you turn worzel. What ratio do you mix the sugar and juice and for how long? Col.
red&white4life Posted 28 November, 2008 Posted 28 November, 2008 It's an independent liquor/wine store in the south of town towards Anthem. I found it by just calling a bunch of stores in the area and as I was about to give up, got lucky! WalMart is very useful, just know the right time to go to avoid the masses. Target is better though. Is Target a supermarket chain LV? I will put it in my satnav when we are in LV next April and check it out, failing that Vons usually manages to keep me in cider. The best chain for cider on the East coast is Publix, you actually get a choice of 5 or 6 there. Col.

red&white4life Posted 28 November, 2008 Posted 28 November, 2008 Depends how strong you like it? Well i usually drink K which is 8.4 so i like it fairly strong. Col.

Prices maybe not quite as good for some things but it's much more pleasant.

Dog Posted 2 December, 2008 Posted 2 December, 2008 5 litre of supermarket apple juice packet of ale yeast 200g sugar Sling 4 litres of apple juice in the 5 litre demijohn, put 1/2 litre into a saucepan and dissolve the sugar in it before adding this to the 4 litres already in the demijohn. Shake the hell out of it, wait to cool and add yeast, shake the hell out of it and let it go about it's fine work. Once it starts to clear add the remaining 1/2 litre juice and siphon into 500ml glass bottles, leave a week in the warm and then down in the cold.

tombletomble Posted 6 December, 2008 Posted 6 December, 2008 I've just been to a near by farm and bought about 25 gallons of cider for £50. A deal that I am very pleased with. Just a shame it's not all mine and I have to give most of it away.
Baj Posted 12 December, 2008 Posted 12 December, 2008 bought a bottle of Aspalls before getting the flu and then sinus infection, been on antibiotics for 2 weeks, stopped yesterday. Bottle has been in fridge for 2 weeks, time to crack it open...
harvey Posted 12 December, 2008 Author Posted 12 December, 2008 yuk. too dry, are there other versions? Blimey 7 whole minutes.............you gave that a chance then. They do an organic one and one with a dash of blackberry/currant liquor (not sure which).

saint_stevo Posted 13 December, 2008 Posted 13 December, 2008 been catching up with my mate Bow all afternoon. He is very fruity, and on offer in Co-Op
J Bizzle Posted 14 December, 2008 Posted 14 December, 2008 spend many an evening down the apple in brizzle before a night on the lash.
La BoIS Saint Posted 15 December, 2008 Posted 15 December, 2008 Apart from a very few pubs the only place to get decent cider or perry is at a beer festival. Maybe at the odd farmers' market (Mr Whiteheads) or farm if you are in the West Country. It's weird that a mass produced over marketed fizzy fruit juice like Magners has actually sparked an interest in the traditional drink. Always sells out at festivals.
Dog Posted 13 December, 2011 Posted 13 December, 2011 Went to Westons Cider Factory in Much Marcle last weekend, did you know Fred Wests' family home is only 1/4 mile away from the factory, the home where he cut off his 1st wife's & childs head and buried her in the garden. Also he admitted to 20 other victims which were never found, all buried around the orchards of Weston's. So don't be too surprised if one day you get a bit of head on your scrumpy.
Window Cleaner Posted 13 December, 2011 Posted 13 December, 2011 Rich's Farmhouse Cider is the best that I've ever had, doubt if you can get it around Southampton though.
buctootim Posted 13 December, 2011 Posted 13 December, 2011 You should go here if you are ever in Sussex. Dozens of ciders and perrys. You pick up a little tasting glass on the way in and can try as many as you like before buying (dont even have to ask, just open the tap). http://www.middlefarm.com/cider-and-perry.html
Dog Posted 13 December, 2011 Posted 13 December, 2011 Old Rosie. 6 pints of flat Old Rosie and I hit the deck playing darts.
Saintandy666 Posted 13 December, 2011 Posted 13 December, 2011 6 pints of flat Old Rosie and I hit the deck playing darts. I doubt I'd even get to 6 pints of Old Rosie, so I guess that's an achievement in itself! I love my scrumpy's though.

Gercha Had that here for ages Stay off the Light version though, it's awful 3 Boxes of Wyld Wood Organic "smuggled" back here after my last trip - all 9 litres waiting for the Promotion Party
Minty Posted 14 March, 2012 Posted 14 March, 2012 Wyld Wood (formerly Westons Organic) is far and away my favourite nowadays.
Jonnyboy Posted 14 March, 2012 Posted 14 March, 2012 I bought a can of Black Sheep Ale last weekend at Bitterne triangle offy. Started pouring only to find cider inside! That's never happened before with any drink. I contacted the brewery and they are concerned enough to request I post the can ASAP, not least because they normally only retail at Tesco. I drank the cider anyway! No ill effects so far.
