Weston Super Saint Posted 24 March, 2009 Share Posted 24 March, 2009 http://www.saintsweb.co.uk/forum/showpost.php?p=238957&postcount=113 I cannot believe some of the callous, heartless people that our society has bred. If you've got nothing positive to contribute, don't bother contributing at all. What's the point? No one gives a toss what you've got to say anyway, you're just making yourselves look like ****s. So is this the new board regime, and will it be applied to ALL the threads - including the main board? Guess what Ponty, this is a forum - a meeting place for people to have discussions - and not everyone will see the world the way you do! But to say that If you've got nothing positive to contribute, don't bother contributing at all is a little pompous and self centered isn't it? swastika eyes Posted 24 March, 2009 Share Posted 24 March, 2009 I was more than surprised about that too ! Locking a thread because people weren't saying nice things about someone who had died ! I would never had said anything positive about her when she was alive and see no reason to alter this now.
Ponty Posted 24 March, 2009 Share Posted 24 March, 2009 I locked the thread because it had run its course. Yes, my post was "for real", whatever you mean by that. No, it's not some regime you've imagined up, and therefore it won't be applied across the forum or the main board. There's simply a thing called decency. You might have heard of it, although I'm not going to take that for granted, and I think it was missing from that thread. I was hardly being self-centred, after all I'm not the one starting a new thread to whine about it.

scott_saints Posted 25 March, 2009 Share Posted 25 March, 2009 To sum up this Jade Goody Malarkey.... Hardly any one liked her before she had cancer. When she got cancer she was still not popular, but recieved lots of sympathy- Which is fair because no one wants cancer! She then wanted it publicised everywhere to promote awareness etc. Some liked her for doing so and some didn't and didn't want people saying nasty things about someone who is dying. She then died of Cancer. Alot of people still don't like who she was. Some people don't like it when others say nasty things about dead people and accuse the people who do so for being "sick". Ponty Posted 25 March, 2009 Share Posted 25 March, 2009 I agree with Wilts. There may be an amount of crap that, as an administrator, I'm forced to turn a blind eye to if it doesn't break any rules but, at the end of the day, I'm actually just a decent bloke with no real tolerance for those devoid of humanity. Posting ill-informed, bigotted or just downright nasty comments about anybody is neither big nor clever and when it's someone who's just died, aged 27, it's just sick. You didn't like her, we get it. We'd got it already in the last thread where you were metaphorically ****ing on her body, it really didn't need saying again. I doubt you'll find one person on here who'd claim to be a fan of her or her work - why would they? - but there are plenty who've spoken well of her final campaign to raise awareness of a terrible disease and provide for her sons, while you sit their raining your sick judgement from your high horse. If you think I shouldn't have an opinion because I'm an administrator, that's fine, I don't care what you think about it. If my peers feel the same, that's fine too because my principles count for more to me than having the ability to lock a thread or two.
Saint_clark Posted 25 March, 2009 Share Posted 25 March, 2009 Raising awareness is all well and good, but the ridiculous line she gave "I want everyone to cry for me" was just pathetic. If you heard someone saying those kind of things (from the other thread) about her in the street, would you honestly confront them? No, you would ignore it and walk away, so why are you not just turning a blind eye and letting a public forum remain a place where people can discuss what they want? I thought that she was a monotonously boring person, like most people prone to a few gaffes. Her being diagnosed with cancer did not alter my opinion of her but I did feel for her with the pain and trauma she was enduring. Cancer is a cruel and insidious disease, it knows no class barriers and it's criminal to watch a fellow human descend into a world of pain and drug induced sleep. But whatever anyone's opinion of this girl we should, if we have any substance about us, show a certain amount of restraint in the circumstances. Fair play to your principles Ponty. thesaint sfc Posted 25 March, 2009 Share Posted 25 March, 2009 I think considering the circumstances of a young woman dying of cancer, leaving 2 young children behind, Ponty was 100% in the right. Some people were just being disrespectful and totally immoral. If anyone doesn't at least feel an ounce of sorrow towards the situation then they have some serious issues and are completely heartless. Whatever way you look at it - a young woman has died a slow and painful death, both emotionally and physically and 2 young children have lost their mother. I disliked the woman and I disagreed with the way she seemingly publicised her death, but it's a hideous situation and I show my respects for the family. My Grandad died of cancer last year and I appreciate what a terrible experience it is to watch someone you love slowly fade away and die right in front of your eyes leaving you feeling completely helpless. I think there's a massive difference between calling someone a c*** for their sickening views on an internet messageboard and saying things such as you're going to sh*t on a recently deceased young woman. I absolutely 100% agree with everything Ponty has said. Yes, you should expect to have your own say when you've paid an almighty 1.34p per day to use the forum, but surely you can still understand that there's a line between free speech and having some common decency for someone (no matter ho you feel about her) who has just died of a terrible disease. If you can't see that yourself, I think you seriously need to take a long hard look at yourself and hope that no one you ever know dies of cancer. I knew there were some c**ts on this forum, but I always (mistakenly) assumed that they at least had some traits of human nature within them. Seems I was wrong. Kind of agree with that, the only argument there is that she hasn't literally just died, and whilst the comments were disrespectful I think it was more in a joking/messing around way. Not that that makes it OK. I do think this forum is perhaps a bit too tolerant sometimes, rather than not tolerant enough. TBF I have felt like responding at times to some of the sickening posts in this way, but if people resort to these insults to back up an argument, then , as far as I am concerned, they have already lost it. Some people think it's big and clever to build a certain internet persona that gains them notoriaty and some sort of twisted respect from their equally twisted peers. It never ceases to amaze me how hard people are willing to work to become total idiots. The funny thing is you meet these people in real life situations and generally they are the polar opposite of the character they portray online. The sad thing about chat forums like this is that you'll always have people trying to make a name for themselves by throwing in some outspoken, and often plain wrong comments to bolster their internet ego. The only people that they gain respect from are those who are equally idiotic. In my eyes they're welcome to each other but I just wish they wouldn't use this forum to spout their childish, vitriolic bile. Just to add to what Pancake says, we can't read every post on every thread so if people are offended or feel thay have reason to complain about a thread then please use the report function. Son of Bob Posted 25 March, 2009 Share Posted 25 March, 2009 well..seeing as you are sickened by some..I hope/assume your morals will extend to all issues like this.. as none were shown by mods when people tear into princess di..or when people will happily admit they will have a street party when maggie goes.. all of which have been said of late on here - pancake. If you feel a post has over-stepped the mark, bring it to our attention with the report function and we'll deal with it accordingly. It really is THAT easy. Do you honestly think that we are able to read EVERY post on EVERY forum?
Mr saint Posted 25 March, 2009 Share Posted 25 March, 2009 well..seeing as you are sickened by some..I hope/assume your morals will extend to all issues like this.. as none were shown by mods when people tear into princess di..or when people will happily admit they will have a street party when maggie goes.. all of which have been said of late on here - pancake. I have read it now and found all of one "sick" post out of over 100 There are quite a few posts which have been deleted in that thread. The fact that there is only 1 "sick post" if anything makes it worse, considering the ones left on there are supposed to be the nice posts. No one at all is saying you have to have liked her (I know I didn't, and neither did the majority of people on that thread), but surely people can have the common decency to at least have a bit of respect for the dead. Weston Super Saint Posted 25 March, 2009 Author Share Posted 25 March, 2009 Posting ill-informed, bigotted or just downright nasty comments about anybody is neither big nor clever and when it's someone who's just died, aged 27, it's just sick. You didn't like her, we get it. We'd got it already in the last thread where you were metaphorically ****ing on her body, it really didn't need saying again. Pretty sure you've got me confused with someone else there, but I'd be happy for you to link me to a post of mine where I am metaphorically ****ing - or anything else for that matter - on her body. Indeed. Im sure TDD would be the first to jump in if others started to say "bad" things about Anthony Huntrod and Paul McCann.
