Window Cleaner Posted 23 March, 2009 Share Posted 23 March, 2009 You do not need a degree in maths to calculate 'slim and none' in terms of chance of staying up. If you had a maths degree you'd talk of "approaching zero" or "approaching infinity". Marvellous conditions those are, squares become round and parallel lines cross. In math and physic everything is possible at zero and infinity. Leicestersaint Posted 23 March, 2009 Share Posted 23 March, 2009 It is not looking good. I would say it is 60% likely that we will go down but we might just salvage things on the last day. I think we need 50 points to be safe -3 wins and a draw - can anyone see how we get them?

Window Cleaner Posted 23 March, 2009 Share Posted 23 March, 2009 beat charlton, palace and draw against forest and burnley and one other will be enough IMO I fancy us to give Wolves a good whupping, it's the sort of thing we do. Plus they'll be virtually assured of automatic promotion and will take their foot off the pedal.
Saint Benali Posted 23 March, 2009 Share Posted 23 March, 2009 Think some people need to remember who we are and where we are. We have won 9 games from 39. That is 23% of our games being won. But people think we will then win 4 of our last 7 games. 57%? People need to come back to earth. We are capable of surviving but if you don't play to win how will you win? chi saint Posted 23 March, 2009 Share Posted 23 March, 2009 The self belief seems to have drifted out of Saints.I do wonder if the Lowe effect is dragging them down.Does he turn up at training still? I do wonder if the players are almost ashamed to be saints due to the ruddy faced one. The Lowe effect, what are you on about?. The question was around odds on staying up, why start another agenda item. Stupid post..Fact. Anyway back on topic i'd say 50/50, just need one win with those around us losing and well be back in the mix.
um pahars Posted 23 March, 2009 Share Posted 23 March, 2009 For me, so much depends on other teams results. I can see us getting something like 8 points (W2 D2 L3) or maybe an optimistic 11 (W3 D2 L2), but I've got this sneaking feeling that either would be enough as I think Forest and Plymouth will really struggle in the run in. I think a draw on the last day will be needed and we'll get it, relegating Forest in the process!!!!!

Wotte (similar to last season) has made us hard to beat - only defeat recently 1-0 to 2nd in division.
St Marco Posted 23 March, 2009 Share Posted 23 March, 2009 agree with that, others are losing which is a bad habit. Wotte (similar to last season) has made us hard to beat - only defeat recently 1-0 to 2nd in division. I agree with that. But i also think he has made it hard for us to win. The last 4 games we have been pretty poor. We are lucky that teams have not taken their chances and unlucky we have not taken ours (Surman i'm looking at you!). The problem now becomes we need to replicate in the next 6-7 games what we have done in the last 6-7 games. If we can come out of that period with 3 wins, 4 draws and 1 loss (13 points) then we will stay up. But if we come out with 1 win, 1 loss and 5 draws i think were be gone. benjii Posted 23 March, 2009 Share Posted 23 March, 2009 pearson was brought up all season when jam was here.. i agree with your point though In the sense of, "I think Jan is doing an awful job and I think Pearson, who I rate, could do a better one". Not in the sense of, "I have found some comparative figures and will now assert that this proves something which has a large qualitative element". That stat looks very bad, but surely it is not an accurate comparison? The majority of the 39 games were played under JP and the stupid team selections/formations he played so it isn't as bad as you are suggesting. If we play to the same form as since Wotte took over, then the situation is not quite as bleak. The problem though is that the team are not finding scoring form when they need it and worryingly seem very capable of going behind before waking up to the fact that they are in a relegation scrap. At the end of it all, we still need to gain at least 12 points from a possible 21 IMO and THAT is a huge task. I think we're going down based on the assumption that it's just too big a mountain to climb for this team.
Kingsbridge Saint Posted 25 March, 2009 Share Posted 25 March, 2009 About 30% chance of staying up I would say. But would be happy to revisit that assessment if we beat Charlton and Watford.
