Golden Balls Posted 23 March, 2009 Share Posted 23 March, 2009 Had some people shouting about how ugly he was during the game and comments about Kev's wife but was applauded off when he was subbed and then at the end when he came over. He said that we were a superb club with superb fans in the progamme and that we should be back in the premier league where he spent the best years of his career with us. If anyone did boo then they were definitely in the minority and were not real saints fans. Thats football though. When they're not on your team you give them a bit of stick and banter! I gave him stick when he was in ear shot, but I gave him a clap when he was subbed and when he came back over I chanted his name! My god! I'm not going to sing his name when he's on the pitch for another team!
Victor Posted 23 March, 2009 Share Posted 23 March, 2009 who cares if he was boo'd or not...we have enough of our own problems to worry about the feelings of an opposition player You utter tosser and apology for a man. I bloody care. And I think you'll find the majority who state their affection for Brett are not slagging off DMG, and nor are they trying to claim Brett was one of Saints' best players. I think you'll find they appreciate good, honest effort that makes a worthwhile contribution to the side. A player picked by the manager can only give of his best - it's when they obviously don't that they get booed. More like Brett in the side and all those other problems you want us to get depressed about will seem less important.
ottery st mary Posted 23 March, 2009 Share Posted 23 March, 2009 Ormerod is a team player and Mighty Mac has never really proved that to date and if he has any real talent he and with great help from Rupert and the Dutch boyz will not go on to prove it....Poor attitude and bad management. We could have done with Ormerod this season alongside Saga and an old fashioned No 9. Mighty Mac should have been a squad player at the most, with odd appearances and many final 20 min subs rloes to gain experience, improve and be an asset to the side....But we haven't even got a side to speak of. Frank's cousin Posted 23 March, 2009 Share Posted 23 March, 2009 (edited) ..'a nice bit of inertplay, its with Bridger, lays it off neatly to Mazza on the overlap, a first time peach of a ball with that genius of a left peg as the ball floats tantalizingly into the Wtford box, keeper in two minds, stays on his line.... leaping like a Oncorhynchus gorbuscha (salmon (pink)) Saint's brett 'pretty boy' Ormarod rises to meet that the ball and like a bullet its past the hapless Watford keeper'.. nuff said. nostalgia... OldNick Posted 23 March, 2009 Share Posted 23 March, 2009 Oh dear, I don't think I agree with a word of that. McGoldrick at his best for Saints so far hasn't come close to achieving anything like what Ormerod did, and he's nothing like as good a player either - Brett's selfless workrate helped create space for Beattie to score the goals he did, he was a far fitter player than McGoldrick and had more influence on play, he was a handful for opposing defenders, won the ball back in dangerous attacking positions with all his closing down, and was a better finisher than McGoldrick when his job was to score goals not help create them (at Blackpool the first time he was there). Plus he played regularly for Saints in the Premiership, for a team that finished in the top half. McGoldrick WISHES he was half the player Ormerod was for Saints.I notice that the Villa fans boo Aglabonhor (sp?) who is in similar mopuld in respect he looks not interested. Its pathetic just because DMG doesnt chase around like a headless chicken(although he does chase) fans perceive that he doesnt care.Well when he scored he showed he cared. St Louis Posted 23 March, 2009 Share Posted 23 March, 2009 It's a sad, sad reflection of our fans! Ormerod scored the goal to get us to an FA Cup Final, he should be cheered and remembered fondly by all of our fans! He wasn't the most gifted player, but that makes it even more special that he scored that goal and got to represent Saints in an FA Cup Final. The proudest day of his footballing career I'm sure, he must love OUR club! At other clubs like Man City, they love their try-hard players of the past, just think of Paul Dickov! He scored a play-off final goal for them, and they hold him in legendary status! I dread to think what some of our fans would make of Benali if he was still playing, he would get booed every week! aintforever Posted 23 March, 2009 Share Posted 23 March, 2009 Pathetic. Our travelling fans have been terrific, but this was stupid and moronic. Brett has been a loyal servant for Saints and always ran his socks off, scoring some crucial goals too, not least the one that got us to the Cup Final. Nothing stupid about it, it's worth giving stick to try and put them off. He was applauded by pretty much everyone after the game.

corsacar saint Posted 23 March, 2009 Share Posted 23 March, 2009 Ormerod is by all accounts a nice guy who always when I saw him[most home games] gave his all for the club. I
Papa Shango Posted 23 March, 2009 Share Posted 23 March, 2009 Couldn't understand it myself. As Chez mentioned earlier, we get ex skates and other players who actually deserve some stick getting completely ignored, and yet we boo a guy who scored one of the most important goals in our history in the FA Cup semi final, and formed a great partnership with James Beattie the year we finished 8th in the Premiership. He will always be remembered fondly by me.
SFKA South Woodford Posted 23 March, 2009 Share Posted 23 March, 2009 When McG plays regulary in the Premiership, when he scores a FA Cup Semi Final goal, then perhaps we can compare him to Ormerod. Ormerod wasn't quite good enough for the Premiership, but made the most of his limitted talent. McG is CCC at best, but seems to think he's something special. As do all the best players, especially strikers! Just look at Shearer, Sheringham, Philips and Beattie, all supremely confident in their own ability, and all prolific scorers in the premiership. It's that supreme confidence that makes them a better player. I'd agree that as things stand, McG has a long way to go to match even half of the things that Brett did for Saints. But has been showing of late, that he does have talent, and is starting to add the workrate, that will make him a more complete player. I remember seeing him at Central and talking to him, after a game while we were still in the big league. He said that he had played for the youth team that morning and had scored a hat trick, and was waiting for Leon, as he was travelling home to Nottingham with him. I asked him then, whether he thought he would be as good as Dexter and Leon, who were playing well for the reserves, and his reply was that he was going to be a lot better than either of them. At which point Leon arrived and after some ribbing, said that McG was going to be a very good player for Saints one day. So give McG another full season of first team football and then judge him. St_Tel49 Posted 23 March, 2009 Share Posted 23 March, 2009 McGoldrick is twice the player Ormerod is/was. Ormerod is a fantastic bloke, great energy and a vital part off our best team for years but his ability actually was pretty non existant whereas McGoldrick actually has some. Not every striker has to be like Ormerod and run round like a headless chicken. Not every striker who doesn't run round like a headless chicken has a massive ego. I despise people who say things like that which is clearly a judgement of someone they don't know. Just look past your hatred of him, accept that McGoldrick is what he is and when you look at it is actually a talented player, whose our top goal scorer, and has looked alot better lately since he's got some support upfront. Well said that man. Our team would be a lot poorer without him.

Window Cleaner Posted 24 March, 2009 Share Posted 24 March, 2009 and he is only a year older than McGoldrick Well only 20 months older anyway. McGoldrick will probably move on this summer, we'll probably get a couple of million for him.May have already got a down payment, who knows, we must be getting money from somewhere and as it is categorically ruled out by the vast majority that the "board" will put anything in...... MrMojoRisin Posted 24 March, 2009 Share Posted 24 March, 2009 This forum is becoming more and more like the letters page of the daily mail. Ormerod got jeered. Boo hoo. It's banter. It happens at football matches. Grow up. Ormerod earns more in a month than most of us earn in a year, I'm sure he can cope. Totally agree, I was not a big fan of Ormerod apart from running like an old dog for 90 mins I think he was absoulute crap, who probably would not have been signed if super Marian stayed fit. I can remember Brett Ohmygod hes missed again (as I used to refer to him as) missing from the goaline in a last home game of the season v Bolton. And lets be honest Alan Shearer used to get booed by saints fans whenever he played against us and these were probably the same people who cheered every goal he scored for England
